Kalyanji and his brother Anandji were known as hit makers during the 1960s, 70s and 80s when they ruled the charts with one evergreen song after another. The elder of the two , Kalyanji started his musical journey by playing an unusual musical instrument called the clavioline which sounded exactly like the been (the instrument used to animate snakes) for Hemant Kumar’s film Nagin.
Explaining why a perfectionist like Hemant Kumar Mukherjee chose to fudge the sound of the been in the blockbuster film Nagin Kalyanji explained, “The actual been is not a very rangy instrument. It couldn’t create the versatile sound that Hemant Kumar wanted. I suggested the clavioline. When Hemantda heard the sound he immediately said yes. Luckily for us, my brother Anandji and I… Otherwise been bajaata bajaate hum has-been ho jaate. (otherwise our career would have gone nowhere)”
That was Kalyanji for you: full of jokes and quips.

Hansal Mehta talks with Subhash K Jha about his dear departed dost Mukul Dev.
Hansal, you’ve just lost a very dear friend.
I will miss Mukul Dev deeply. His booming laughter at our inside jokes, his unmatched gift for storytelling, that unmistakable voice. He acted in two of my unreleased films and a TV show—somehow in the shadows of it all, we became very close. We bonded over booze, broken hearts, and the foolish hope that things would one day make sense. For years, we were gym buddies, pushing each other through reps and regrets.
I believe Mukul was a terrific raconteur?
Mukul was devastatingly handsome. His presence could light up a stadium, his charm could hold a room in thrall. He had what most people only dream of: a dream launch, big directors, prominent co-stars. He had the look, the talent, the pedigree.
Strangely despite his looks and talent success bypassed Mukul?...

Feroz Khan Once Reportedly Fat Shamed Shammi Kapoor (Photo Credit – Instagram/YouTube)
Feroz Khan and Shammi Kapoor were probably two of the most stylish actors of the yesteryears. They have made some great films in the world of cinema and had their ups and downs in the industry. According to a throwback report, Khan and Kapoor shared a cordial relationship, but the former once crossed the lines and allegedly fat-shamed the Junglee actor. Keep scrolling to find out what happened next.
Although there are no strong reports about their friendship, since they belonged around the same time, their paths crossed. Kapoor had a flamboyant personality with his Elvis Presley-inspired energy, and Khan also exuded a similar aura with his suave cowboy-inspired style. Actors from that era often shared a sense of camaraderie, even if they weren’t particularly close personally.

Would it be fair to describe Feroz Khan as the Clint Eastwood of Mumbai cinema? He was certainly the first Indian star to play a brooding cowboy in a series of films in the mid-70s. Curry Westerns like Kala Sona and didn’t quite make this Khan a craze in his days. But he was nothing if not a trendsetter. Westernized trim and flamboyantly macho Feroz Khan came at a time when heroes were moony-eyed, flabby, and 40-ish. This Khan didn’t spend hours in the gym. But he sure knew how to flex his biceps on screen.
His broad machismo earned Khan a staunch fan following. The urbanized Indian loved to watch Khan play the stud in self-directed flicks like Apradh, Qurbani and Janbaaz where he drove the slickest cars, bedded the most beautiful women and visited the most swanky sights in the world.
Feroz Khan was the first dude with an attitude.

The cleft on the chin gave him a distinctive edge. The self-confidence and talent to play both rugged and soft characters did the rest. Vinod Khanna was the rank outsider in the film industry who showed Hindi cinema a new path to screen heroism. In 1969, just out of Sydenham College in Mumbai, Vinod had no connections in or with the Mumbai film industry. Friends, especially female ones, told him he was good-looking and ekdum hero material. But as luck would have it, Sunil Dutt offered Vinod the villain’s role in Man Ka Meet. The film flopped, and Sunil Dutt’s brother Som Dutt, who was elaborately launched in the film, vanished.
But Vinod survived. And how! His longish stint as a villain continued well into the 70s when he played antagonist to Rajesh Khanna in Sachcha Jhootha and Aan Milo Sajna and Dharmendra in Mera Gaon Mera Desh. In the last mentioned,...

Amjad Khan As Gabbar Singh (Photo Credit – YouTube)
Gabbar Singh is one of the most iconic villains ever seen on the Indian screen. His chilling lines, rugged look, and terrifying presence have been immortalized in Bollywood history. But there’s a surprise fact: Amjad Khan, who made the role legendary, was never the first choice to play Gabbar in Sholay.
Danny Denzongpa Was the First Choice for Gabbar Singh
The role of Gabbar Singh was initially offered to Danny Denzongpa. However, owing to previous commitments with Feroz Khan’s Dharmatma, he could not pursue the opportunity. It was a tough call, especially because Gabbar was such a strong character. However, Danny later said he had no regrets, adding that the role went to the right person.
He recalled (Via Spotboye), “I knew the Gabbar character was fabulous but my conscience guided me to take the right decision. I have no regrets at all.

Many cineastes think Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather is the most influential film of all times. I would have to go with that. So would Feroz Khan, who’s been in two of the worst Godfather-influenced films of all time. Here’s saluting The Godfather clones, good, bad and the awful.
1. Dharmatma (1975):
Feroz Khan was always ahead of his time. So, it’s no surprise that he was the first Bollywood filmmaker to jump on the The Godfather bandwagon with this wildly out-of-control remake—an almost scene-by-scene reaffirmation of the original with Feroz playing Al Pacino and Premnath as Marlon Brando. A laughably crude homage to the original, the silver lining was the beauteous Hema Malini as Reshma, the exotic Afghani lass whom Michael, sorry Feroz, falls in love with. Hema dancing to Lataji’s ‘Mere galiyon se logon ki yaari ho gayi’ would have probably given Coppola...

Deewar, directed by The Yash Chopra, released 50 years ago. Starring Shashi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan Deewaar was a critical and box-office hit and is considered one of the best, a classic, and an iconic film of Hindi cinema.
Here are seven unknown facts about Deewaar.
1. The first choice for Vijay’s role in Deewaar was not Amitabh Bachchan. It was Rajesh Khanna. Director Yash Chopra, who had directed Rajesh Khanna in his first home production Daag, was keen to reunite with Rajesh Khanna. However, writers Salim-Javed put their collective clout into action and insisted on Ab. And who said no to Salim-Javed those days?!
2. But here is the thing. Ab was doing another film with Yash Chopra at that time. And post Zanjeer, there was no way he could accommodate two Yash Chopra films into his clogged date diary. Luckily, better sense prevailed. Ab and Yc trained their guns on Deewaar.

The beautiful Celina Jaitly made her screen debut in Feroz Khan’s Janasheen. She married Austrian Peter Haag in 2010 and moved to Austria where she is now blissfully ensconced with her husband and three children. Celebrating her birthday this week she reflects on her life and says she couldn’t be happier.
What does this birthday mean to you?
Birthdays earlier used to be very ostentatious for me even though I’ve never been drawn to ostentatious birthday celebrations. The glitz and glamour feel empty compared to the warmth of being surrounded by family. Simple moments with loved ones, heartfelt laughter, and genuine connection mean far more to me than any grand display. To me, true celebration is about love, not luxury.
So what is your idea of a really happy birthday?
I mostly now like to travel with my family on my birthdays. They are all I want.

Singers Dev Negi and Priya Saraniya have released their own rendition of the classic ‘90s track ‘Jo Haal Dil Ka’ from the film ‘Sarfarosh’, remaking the track with a modern touch while retaining the musicality of the original.
A beautiful and heartfelt track, ‘Jo Haal Dil Ka’ has an iconic melody which gets reinvigorated with a new contemporary twist while still keeping things familiar, mixing in a passionate romance with its ups and downs that can’t be broken.
This is done extremely well as the acoustic instrumentation compliments the voices of Dev and Priya who seamlessly blend their voices with one another, creating a vocal contrast which only accentuates the overall romantic mood.
A powerful and booming production, the song is done in a typical pop sensibility with a loud booming bass, an acoustic guitar with simple melodies, and some elements of Bollywood pop, American pop merged with an electronic side.

After Dilip Kumar agreed to Mumtaz (Askari) as one of the romantic partners for one of the twins in “Ram Aur Shyam” (1967), there was no looking back for her. Male actors, who had once spurned her as a ‘B-grade’ actress were now more than ready to accept her. She was so much sought after that a superstar of the time, with whom she had a string of successes, reportedly went into a sulk if she acted with other heroes.

Actress Celina Jaitley has given it back hard to a social media troll, who claims she “slept with both father and son” Feroz Khan and Fardeen Khan. Celina, who stepped into Hindi cinema in 2003 in late actor-filmmaker Feroz Khan’s ‘Janasheen’ starring Fardeen Khan, was responding to a user named Umair Sandhu, who is often seen posting nasty tweets about Bollywood personalities such as Salman Khan, Sidharth Malhotra and Shehnaaz Gill.
A tweet by the user read: “Celina Jaitley is the only actress in Bollywood who slept with both father (Feroze Khan) and son (Fardeen Khan) many times.”
Celina clapped back and said: “Dear Mr Sandhu hope posting this gave you the much needed girth and length to become a man and some hope to cure you of your erectile dysfunction. There are others ways to fix your problem… like going to a doctor, you must try it sometime! @TwitterSafety pls take action.

As the 2007 comedy caper ‘Welcome’ completes fifteen years on Wednesday, Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor, who played the role of Majnu bhai in the film, is filled with gratitude. Majnu bhai among Anil’s favourite characters.
This character has given rise to countless memes of social media and WhatsApp stickers. Some people have even gone to the length of merchandising Maju bhai’s famous donkey on a horse painting by patching them onto t-shirts.
The actor mentioned that the character was indeed a fun one to portray as he didn’t feel like he was acting.
He shared: “It came to me naturally and with Anees bhai’s writing and direction and with Nana being the perfect co-Star as Uday bhai made it even easier and lots of fun. I see so many recreations on social media of his dialogues and it’s amazing how he is still relatable even to the famous Gen Z.

The concept of the body double is quite spread throughout the movie industry, with people looking like the stars doubling them in stunts or in erotic scenes. In India and Bollywood, though, where a number of stars are bigger than life, it has risen to a whole other level, with film star lookalikes being as much part of Indian popular culture as the revered actors who front the movie industry, even starring as so-called “duplicates” in broadly comedic versions of original films by the megastars they resemble. Documentary director and producer Geetika Narang Abbasi profiles three career duplicates – Kishore Bhanushali, who doubles as Dev Anand; Firoz Khan the Amitabh Bachchan lookalike and Prashant Walde, who makes a living mimicking Shah Rukh Khan.

By numbers, her work in the Hindi film industry seems quite scanty — at 33 films in around a decade and a half. But the statistics fail to reveal that, save around five, all were box-office hits, and some of them broke new ground, making her one of the most popular and successful actresses of all times — and a fashion icon too.
Though she struck gold right from her debut as female lead, and went on to become an “in demand” actress for everything, from frothy romances to tear-jerkers, Sadhana is most remembered for her trademark hairstyle — the famous “Sadhana cut” of fringes or short bangs (itself inspired by the elfin and charming Audrey Hepburn) — and pioneering form-fitting kurtas and churidar pyjamas.
But in her comparatively limited outings, Sadhana, who was born on this day in 1941, showcased her acting prowess. She could essay roles of a rich heiress to a village belle...

I spent a number of years living in France, and one of the most interesting words I learned was “sosie” – someone who perfectly resembles someone else, to the point that people could confuse them. I was familiar with impersonators, mostly comedians who did voice imitations of famous people, whether actors or singers. I knew about Elvis impersonators, people who would perform dressed as Elvis. But that’s as far as it went, until I discovered the world of “sosies” in France. Where impersonators or doubles were fairly marginalized here at home, in France I discovered a whole side business of people who resembled famous performers – usually singers – and would hire themselves out to perform at local events. Now as the original Don Amitabh Bachchan sang 'Woh Ghadi Aa Gayee Aa Gayee'. Shah Rukh and Sunny Leone are currently grooving to choreographer Bosco's dance steps and Kalyanji-Anandji's chartbuster 'Laila Oh Laila' from Feroz Khan's Qurbani which was sung by Amit Kumar and Kanchan and filmed on Amjad Khan and Zeenat Aman. The shooting started on Saturday and will end on Monday. The new version of the song being filmed on Shah Rukh and Sunny has been re-mixed by Ram Sampath. The voices are yet to be decided. It was way back in 1994 when Naseeruddin Shah had taken Akshay Kumar as well as Suniel Shetty for a ride with his blind man act in Mohra. It had turned out to be a huge twist in the tale when as a businessman Jindal, Naseeruddin Shah had turned out to be a villain of the piece, instead of being a savor that he projected himself to be. Now 21 years later, it is John Abraham's turn to face the music, as he comes face to face with Naseeruddin Shah in a blind avtar again. The film is Welcome Back and this time around there is no pretense being put as the veteran actor is playing a comical don named Wanted Bhai in the Anees Bazmee directed action comedy. In the first of the series, it was Firoz Khan who came in the lives of Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar...

The 'bhai's are back, and they seem classy! On the other hand, the babes are too hot to handle!
Well, while we have seen Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor having full-on masti in Welcome, this time there is a new and hotter addition in Welcome Back. Yes, we are talking about John Abraham (who seems to have replaced the sweet and innocent Akshay Kumar from Welcome). This time (from the posters), it seems like Nana Patekar has turned out to be a good man, while John, on the other seems to be the bad lad!
We say so because Nana, who played a don in Welcome, is now seen holding a flower in his hand (unlike in the first part), while John is blazing hot with a gun pointed over his head!
This sequel to Welcome has John Abraham - Shruti Haasan instead of Akshay Kumar - Katrina Kaif, and...

Indian cinema superstar Akshay Kumar is a happy man these days. Riding high on the box-office success of his recent blockbuster film Gabbar is Back, the enigmatic Akshay recently shared an amazing piece of trivia about his illustrious film career.
The megastar recalled having worked in a high percentage of films in which he shared screen-space with a number of Bollywood legends. Oddly enough, the only exception to the rule was his father-in-law and yesteryear superstar, Rajesh Khanna.
Over the years, Akshay has worked with Bollywood legends like Manoj Kumar, Rishi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Raakhee and Tanuja. While the actor co-starred with Manoj Kumar in the 1995 thriller Maidan-e-Jung, which also featured Dharmendra, he has also worked with Shatrughan Sinha in the classic Aan-Men at Work, Feroz Khan in Welcome and Rishi Kapoor in Namastey London and Housefull 2. In addition, Akshay has also shared screen time with the legendary Amitabh Bachchan in Ek Rishta,...

Picture this. An elite team who target, intercept then either eliminate or bring to justice terrorists and criminals. Whilst on an operation to save one of their own, information is obtained (read smacked black and blue out of) from a criminal of a major attack. Travelling from country to country, now begins the chase to take out the masterminds behind it. Sound familiar. Well it should. You’ve seen it more than a million times, with one of the latest being Akshay Kumar’s Holiday. However, coming from the National Award winning Neeraj Pandey, you would think Baby would blow your mind. Yet the mind is not blown enough.
Right from the actors to the action, Baby was never meant to have the usual tone for a CIA-in-combat-fighting-against-terrorism storyline. It was more gritty, more swift, more dark. This isn’t about the patriot that screams his passion filled anthem at the top of his lungs.

The struggle to complete Anees Bazmee's Welcome Back in time for a Christmas release has ended. According to very reliable sources Anil Kapoor's dates played the villain of the piece, throwing Welcome Back's final two schedules into a chaos. The film is now being readied for a January 23 release, alongside two heavyweight Akshay Kumar starrers Neeraj Pandey's Baby and Krish's Gabbar, thereby reducing the Republic Day weekend to a show of strength. It goes unsaid of course that one of Akshay Kumar's two films will move to a later date. Revealing all the inside details a source says, "Producer Feroze Nadiadwala was keen on releasing Welcome Back on December 19 alongside Raj Kumar Hirani's Pk. But because of Anil Kapoor's date issues, there are two remaining schedules in Dubai and Mumbai. So Feroz has agreed to shift Welcome Back to January 23." There is a...
