Superstitions and beliefs whether true or not run down for generations and turn into scariest phenomena. One such is about Friday the 13th which started centuries and decades ago and has now created a frenzy among people. The day is often combined with bad luck and misfortunes: rotten number 13 with Friday,
This superstition became more popular after a movie about the same was created. It was in 1980, just before summer, that a film by Victor Miller and Sean Cunningham was released that would change the history of horror forever.
Considered a classic in horror and slasher genres, Friday the 13th’s popularity has led to the making of many more films in this series, and has turned Camp Crystal Lake into the most dangerous site in the United States.
But years after the release of the film, have you wondered whether or not the film is based on a true story?...

Another Friday the 13th is upon us – unfortunately, we’re just talking about the date, not the release of a new Friday the 13th movie. But while the future of Friday the 13th currently depends on what happens with the Crystal Lake TV series, we can still go back and revisit the awesome F13 movies we have received over the years… and now we have decided to go through our Friday the 13th films collection and pick the top 5 Best Endings in the Friday the 13th Franchise!
Friday The 13th Part III (1982)
This one is all about the chase. While Steve Miner’s Friday the 13th Part III was at one time expected to be the last movie in the franchise (so they made it extra special by shooting it in 3-D), the way Jason is dispatched doesn’t feel like a finishing blow. An axe to his hockey mask-protected...

Season 6 of the Shudder series The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs wrapped up with a six film marathon called the Nightmareathon at the end of August – but before that marathon even aired, Joe Bob had already announced that Shudder had renewed The Last Drive-In for season 7! That season will likely premiere sometime next spring, but one of the many great things about The Last Drive-In is that we always get a good number of specials between the seasons. In fact, we’re going to get two specials just this month, including a Friday the 13th double feature with special guest Adrienne King!
The first special will be airing not on Shudder but on AMC (Shudder is owned and operated by AMC Networks). Here’s the information:
Wednesday, October 9th – Joe Bob brings Friday the 13th and Friday the 13th Part 2 to AMC’s Fearfest. Part 1 airs at 8pm Et...

Jason Voorhees has become synonymous with his iconic hockey mask, which has kept the "Friday the 13th" franchise in the public consciousness despite Jason having not appeared in an official, franchise capacity since the 2009 remake. It's the result of some legal issues between the franchise and the character's creators, but that dang hockey mask has guaranteed that just like the slasher villain who wears it, Jason Voorhees will never die. Hardcore horror fans know that the hockey mask didn't show up until "Friday the 13th Part III," but even more interesting is how Jason has been presented behind the mask or in a few instances, without it completely.
Jason Voorhees has been through it over the years. He's drowned (more than once), been struck in the head with an axe, impaled through the skull with his own machete, hacked to bits, chained to the bottom of a lake, taken a boat propeller to the throat,...

Presented by Paramount Scares, Friday the 13th Week sees Bloody Disgusting heading to Camp Crystal Lake for a series of features that celebrate the Voorhees family and their influence. Yesterday, Luiz H.C. took inventory of all the horror movie fans in horror similar to franchise hero Tommy Jarvis. Today, Jenn Adams celebrates the franchise’s final girls.
As long as there have been slashers, there’ve been final girls; the lone–traditionally female–survivor at the end of the film. Fans of the lovably formulaic sub-genre have strong opinions about which character originated the trope. From Lila and Jess to Sally and Laurie, we each have our favorites and will defend them tooth and nail.
Most slasher franchises become known for specific final girls who appear alongside iconic villains in multiple films, but Friday the 13th is the rare exception that proves the rule. Known for killing off heroines early in subsequent films,...

Here in the United States, Friday the 13th Part II is making its 4K Ultra HD debut as part of the Paramount Scares: Volume 2 box set this October, with no word yet on a solo 4K Uhd release for the 1981 sequel. Over in the UK, however, that solo release is on its way.
The Region Free 4K release of Friday the 13th Part II arrives October 7, 2024.
In director Steve Miner’s sequel, “Five years after the massacre at Camp Crystal Lake, the nerve-wracking legend of Jason Voorhees and his diabolical mother lives on. Despite ominous warnings from the locals to stay away from “Camp Blood,” a group of counselors at a nearby summer camp decide to explore the area where seven people were brutally slaughtered.”
Amy Steel, John Furey, Adrienne King, Stuart Charno and Tom McBride star in Friday the 13th Part II, wherein Jason Voorhees officially begins his decades-spanning murder spree.

Because the end of Sean Cunningham's 1980 slasher "Friday the 13th" deeply informed the many sequels that followed, revealing the film's climax will not necessarily be considered a spoiler. For those unfamiliar with "Friday the 13th" ... Well, first, I hope the cave you've been living in for the past 40 years has been comfortable, but second, you may want to avert your eyes.
Throughout "Friday the 13th," a group of randy New Jersey camp counselors are steadily picked off by a mysterious figure lurking in the shadows. It's implied that it's the ghost of Jason Voorhees, a kid who drowned at Camp Crystal Lake years earlier. Jason, the campfire story goes, was neglected by his counselors and mocked by the other campers. One night, Jason sunk into the lake when his would-be protectors snuck off to have sex. Now, years later, campers at Camp Crystal Lake are targeted by Jason's vengeful spirit.

We've got some not-great news for fans of Friday the 13th, particularly those who are eager to see Jason Voorhees return to the big screen. According to Sean S. Cunningham, who directed the original 1980 film, another movie is still a few years off, at the earliest.
Cunningham was in attendance at the recent Texas Frightmare Weekend, where he reunited with special effects icon Tom Savini and Friday the 13th final girl Adrienne King. Per Creepy Catalog, the group got to talking about the franchise as a whole and Cunningham provided his input on the current state of the Friday the 13th movies.
Interestingly, Cunningham doesn't necessarily think the messy battle over the franchise's legal rights is the issue at hand. He believes that the current problem preventing a new Friday the 13th movie from coming to fruition comes down to budgetary restraints. It sounds like New Line Cinema, the current...

The horror genre recently received a positive uptick in Hollywood thanks to Sydney Sweeney and her Immaculate outing. However, on the other side of the coin, disappointment followed with a much-anticipated project, Friday the 13th: The Series, losing its prized writer. The prequel series has already generated sufficient hype and hope because of its overarching legacy that goes back decades and consists of twelve slasher films.

We learned earlier this week that “Hannibal” creator Bryan Fuller is no longer the showrunner of A24 and Peacock’s Friday the 13th TV series “Crystal Lake,” with A24 choosing to “go a different way with the material.” What does that mean? It means A24 is still planning on bringing a Friday the 13th series to life, but the overall vision will likely change.
Kevin Williamson (Scream, Sick) had been on board to write an episode of the “Crystal Lake” series, and Williamson took to Twitter today to tease some of those original plans.
Williamson writes, “Bummin’ hard, so sorry I won’t be a part of what would have been an epic Bryan Fuller show. Your pilot was so beautifully realized. A gorgeous portrait of a mother unraveling in her grief. Not to mention bloody horrific!”
He adds, “I was so looking forward to our hour long chase episode!

Peacock and A24 will be proceeding with a new showrunner for the Friday the 13th prequel series.
Bryan Fuller confirmed today on social media that he is exiting the series.
“For reasons beyond our control, A24 has elected to go a different way with the material,” Fuller wrote. “We hope the final product will be something Friday the 13th fans all over the world will enjoy.”
You can see Fuller’s entire message below.
As we previously reported, Fuller’s prequel series, titled Crystal Lake, had scored a straight-to-series order at Peacock in 2022, with A24 as the studio. Fuller was to serve as writer, executive producer and showrunner, with Victor Miller, who wrote the original screenplay of the 1980 movie, Marc Toberoff, Miller’s copyright attorney, and Rob Barsamian, who produced the original movie, also exec producing.

It’s been quite a week for Crystal Lake, the Friday the 13th prequel series which has been in development from Hannibal‘s Bryan Fuller. Initial reports stated that A24 had pulled the plug on the project, but a subsequent report claimed it was still alive, just undergoing a “retooling.” Bryan Fuller has now taken to Instagram to address what’s going on with the series, and unfortunately, it sounds like he’s no longer involved.

“Adapting classic horror is something I have some experience with,” Fuller wrote. “These shows require a vision that elevates and transforms, as well as delivers what audiences have come to expect, which is an ambitious and risky endeavor. It requires people to take the leap with me.“
Fuller continued: “When it works, as with Hannibal, the results can be powerful for the storytellers and the audience.

This week has brought a lot of confusion about “Crystal Lake,” A24, Peacock and Bryan Fuller’s (“Hannibal”) television series expansion of the Friday the 13th franchise. While reports and rumors spread about A24 pulling the plug on the series, we told you on Monday that that’s not exactly the case. Rather, the project is being retooled behind the scenes.
So what exactly is going on here? Bryan Fuller has taken to Instagram tonight to provide an update. The bad news? Fuller is no longer involved with the “Crystal Lake” series.
The good news? That doesn’t mean A24 is giving up hope on the project.

Update: According to the good folks at Bloody Disgusting, the plug hasn’t officially been pulled on the series, although it is undergoing “re-tooling.” They note that they have inside sources confirming as much. Certainly, if A24 isn’t going forward with the show, news will break through official channels sooner or later, so stay tuned!

Can you believe it’s now been 15 Years since we last saw Jason Voorhees on the screen? In the wake of several years’ worth of legal troubles, the Voorhees family was finally set to return in a new Friday the 13th television series from A24, Peacock and Bryan Fuller (“Hannibal”) titled “Crystal Lake,” but a report this week has cast doubt on the show happening at all.
Jeff Sneider reported in his newsletter The Insneider late last night that A24 has “pulled the plug” on the “Crystal Lake” series, which was due to begin filming sometime this year.

Fourteen and a half months have gone by since it was announced that original Friday the 13th screenwriter Victor Miller – fresh off winning the U.S. copyright to the 1980 film after a lawsuit that stretched on for years – was teaming up with his lawyer Marc Toberoff, franchise rights holder Rob Barsamian, production company A24, the Peacock streaming service, and showrunner Bryan Fuller (whose credits include Hannibal and Pushing Daisies) to develop a new Friday the 13th streaming series called Crystal Lake. But Crystal Lake might actually make it into production soon! "Friday the 13th" wasn't originally intended to go on to manifest multiple murderous sequels featuring Jason Voorhees as a machete-wielding madman. The famed hockey mask didn't even make it into the films until "Friday the 13th Part III." No, the initial killing spree at Camp Crystal Lake was carried out by Jason's mother, Mrs. Pamela Voorhees, played by the illustrious Betsy Palmer.
Rather famously, Palmer wasn't exactly thrilled initially to be participating in a fairly low-rent horror film surrounded by young, up-and-coming starlets whose acting experience paled in comparison to her rather impressive filmography dating back to the Golden Age of television during the early '50s. The dispute over ownership of the Friday the 13th is one of the most storied in horror movie history. And while things have settled over the last few years, there’s another studio that wants in on the action. Blumhouse — the studio behind the new Halloween trilogy and this month’s The Exorcist sequel Believer — is interested in making Friday the 13th the focus of their next big project.
Speaking with Inverse, Blumhouse producer Ryan Turek said that Friday the 13th is definitely in the studio’s crosshairs (perhaps via a speargun?). “Jason [Blum] and I are definitely in agreement that Friday the 13th is the thing we would love to get our hands on. I really want to go back to the basics. You don’t need too many ingredients for a Friday the 13th film. You need summer camp, you need campers, and you need Jason Vorhees in a mask.

Three years ago, Paramount Pictures gave the 1980 classic Friday the 13th (watch it Here) a Blu-ray steelbook release to celebrate the film’s 40th anniversary. Now the folks at Fridaythe13thFranchise have caught word that Paramount is set to give the film a 4K steelbook release on October 10th – three days before an actual Friday the 13th rolls around on the calendar. They even got their hands on a picture of the 4K steelbook, and you can check it out at the bottom of this article.
It looks like this steelbook will be using the same artwork as the Blu-ray steelbook, but it will also come with a slipcover featuring artwork that was used for Waxwork Records’ vinyl release of the film’s score.

A Friday the 13th TV series called Crystal Lake is coming our way from Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller, Friday the 13th franchise rights holders Victor Miller and Rob Barsamian (plus Miller’s lawyer Marc Toberoff), A24, and the Peacock streaming service. Unfortunately, any progress the show was making has been put on hold during the writers strike – but earlier this year, Fuller assembled a writers room that spent six weeks brainstorming ideas and breaking down the scripts that will make up the first season of the series. Two of the writers in that room were author Tananarive Due, who has written multiple novels over the last thirty years and executive produced Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror, and her husband Steven Barnes, who is also an author and has also contributed scripts to shows like Stargate Sg-1, The Outer Limits, and the ’80s version of The Twilight Zone. The Friday the 13th franchise is finally getting set to return to the screen with “Crystal Lake,” an upcoming prequel television series from A24, Peacock and Bryan Fuller (“Hannibal”) that’s miraculously able to use any and all existing elements from the franchise.
As we recently learned, original Friday final girl Adrienne King will have a recurring role in the series, and King has shared two updates via social media in recent days.
In one post to Twitter, King shares a behind-the-scenes photo from her first writers meeting, while a post to Instagram suggests that the series is aiming for a 2024 premiere.

Adrienne King played final girl Alice Hardy in the 1980 classic Friday the 13th (watch it Here), but her character didn’t make it very far into Friday the 13th Part 2 (watch that one Here) before being dispatched with an icepick. As most diehard fans know, the original Friday the 13th was filmed at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco, an active Boy Scouts camp in Hardwick, New Jersey. Unfortunately, the campgrounds are off limits to the public, meaning you can’t actually visit the filming locations outside of rare special events that the camp offers. And that’s where Crystal Lake Tours comes into play.
For the last few years, Friday the 13th fans have been offered the opportunity to tour the real-life Crystal Lake, and a special event this June will take that experience to the next level.
The team announces, “We made history in 2019 with the largest gathering of cast and crew from Friday the 13th since the movie was released. It was an amazing event and the fans that travelled to the camp from all over the world still rave about it. We had plans for an even larger reunion in...

A new episode of The Manson Brothers Show, which is hosted by the writers/stars of the horror comedy The Manson Brothers Midnight Zombie Massacre – Chris Margetis (Stone Manson) and Mike Carey (Skull Manson) – has just been released, and in this one the boys head out to Camp Crystal Lake for a viewing of the 1980 classic Friday the 13th (watch it Here)! To find out what they had to say about the rampage Jason Voorhees’ mom went on, check out the video embedded above.
Directed by Sean S. Cunningham from a screenplay by Victor Miller, Friday the 13th has the following synopsis: Crystal Lake’s history of murder doesn’t deter counselors from setting up a summer camp in the woodsy area. Superstitious locals warn against it, but the fresh-faced young people — Jack, Alice, Bill, Marcie, and Ned — pay little heed to the old-timers. Then they find themselves stalked by a brutal killer.

Everyone remembers the sensation of fear coursing through their veins the first time they ever heard the ominous whispering of "Ki ki ki, ma ma ma" in "Friday the 13th." The terrifying slasher from Victor Miller and Sean S. Cunningham spawned a massively popular franchise and inspired countless rip-offs, but few films can hold a candle to the unbridled terror found within the trees and cabins of Camp Crystal Lake. Now, horror maven Bryan Fuller is taking us back to camp with the upcoming A24 prequel series, "Crystal Lake."
The "Friday the 13th" franchise is comprised of 12 films, three seasons of a television series, novels, comic books, video games, and plenty of tie-in merchandise. While prequel stories have been told in the novels and comics, "Crystal Lake" will be the first time we see the story of what came before Jason Voorhees' untimely death during summer camp on screen — fully fleshed out.

Family is everything, for better or worse. The blood of friendship might be thicker than the water of the womb, but for these horror families, blood is the fundamental tie that binds them. Horror has historically reflected the contemporaneous fears of society, with early New French Extremity reflecting extreme violence in an enduringly unstable world, while American horror of the 1950s reflected the United States' insecurity in an ever-changing geopolitical landscape. Family remains as consistent as ever, the principal factor that shapes someone into either the best or worst version of themselves.
Horror families especially prioritize the worst. There might well be an entire horror subgenre of messed up families, the kind that encourages each member's worst impulses. Here, we'll be looking at 12 of the most terrifying horror movie families. These are the gaggles of kin that should reasonably send any audience member running for the hills. After years of speculation, the "Friday the 13th" franchise is finally back on its feet thanks to some surprising names. Peacock has officially greenlit "Crystal Lake," a prequel series based on the franchise to be written and executive produced by Bryan Fuller. While exact plot details are being kept under wraps, this series will mark the first "Friday the 13th" project since the infamous lawsuit between director Sean Cunningham and screenwriter Victor Miller seemingly settled last year.
In perhaps even more shocking news, the series will be produced by none other than A24. Other producers include the aforementioned Miller, Marc Toberoff, and Rob Barsamian.

Bryan Fuller has scored a straight-to-series order from Peacock for a prequel series set in the Friday the 13th universe. It comes from A24.
The move follows a fascinating legal battle between the team behind the original horror film.
Crystal Lake comes from Star Trek: Discovery co-creator Bryan Fuller, who has been developing a Friday the 13th project, originally as a feature film, since 2013. He will serve as writer, showrunner and exec producer.
A24 is the studio, while Victor Miller, who wrote the original screenplay of the 1980 movie, Marc Toberoff, Miller’s copyright attorney, and Rob Barsamian, who produced the original movie, will exec produce.

Sean S. Cunningham's "Friday the 13th" was not a novel undertaking. It was rushed into production to capitalize on the slasher craze kicked off by John Carpenter's "Halloween," and, aside from the highly telegraphed reveal of Betsy Palmer's Pamela Voorhees as the murderer, seemed content to be a shoddily staged, set-'em-up-and-knock-'em-down horror flick stocked with a few decent kills -- none more memorable than the climactic decapitation of Mrs. Voorhees.
By this point in the film, Cunningham had delivered on the meagerest of expectations. Roll credits right there, and your target audience goes home satisfied. But the film's makeup effects maestro, Tom Savini, felt something was missing. He'd recently watched Brian De Palma's "Carrie," and recalled how the final scare, where Sissy Spacek's bloody hand unexpectedly bursts through the charred remnants of her house to grab Amy Irving's wrist, had moviegoers screaming as the lights went up.
