Another Friday the 13th is upon us – unfortunately, we’re just talking about the date, not the release of a new Friday the 13th movie. But while the future of Friday the 13th currently depends on what happens with the Crystal Lake TV series, we can still go back and revisit the awesome F13 movies we have received over the years… and now we have decided to go through our Friday the 13th films collection and pick the top 5 Best Endings in the Friday the 13th Franchise!
Friday The 13th Part III (1982)
This one is all about the chase. While Steve Miner’s Friday the 13th Part III was at one time expected to be the last movie in the franchise (so they made it extra special by shooting it in 3-D), the way Jason is dispatched doesn’t feel like a finishing blow. An axe to his hockey mask-protected...

Jason Voorhees has become synonymous with his iconic hockey mask, which has kept the "Friday the 13th" franchise in the public consciousness despite Jason having not appeared in an official, franchise capacity since the 2009 remake. It's the result of some legal issues between the franchise and the character's creators, but that dang hockey mask has guaranteed that just like the slasher villain who wears it, Jason Voorhees will never die. Hardcore horror fans know that the hockey mask didn't show up until "Friday the 13th Part III," but even more interesting is how Jason has been presented behind the mask or in a few instances, without it completely.
Jason Voorhees has been through it over the years. He's drowned (more than once), been struck in the head with an axe, impaled through the skull with his own machete, hacked to bits, chained to the bottom of a lake, taken a boat propeller to the throat,...

Presented by Paramount Scares, Friday the 13th Week sees Bloody Disgusting heading to Camp Crystal Lake for a series of features that celebrate the Voorhees family and their influence. Yesterday, Luiz H.C. took inventory of all the horror movie fans in horror similar to franchise hero Tommy Jarvis. Today, Jenn Adams celebrates the franchise’s final girls.
As long as there have been slashers, there’ve been final girls; the lone–traditionally female–survivor at the end of the film. Fans of the lovably formulaic sub-genre have strong opinions about which character originated the trope. From Lila and Jess to Sally and Laurie, we each have our favorites and will defend them tooth and nail.
Most slasher franchises become known for specific final girls who appear alongside iconic villains in multiple films, but Friday the 13th is the rare exception that proves the rule. Known for killing off heroines early in subsequent films,...

Most horror movies don’t even receive one novelization, yet Friday the 13th Part III somehow ended up with two. In fact, the second sequel in this beloved franchise was the first to be novelized; the original 1980 movie and its immediate follow-up were not adapted until ‘87 and ‘88, respectively. Meanwhile, Michael Avallone’s divisive take on Part III coincided with the movie’s original release. This adaptation of an early draft penned by Martin Kitrosser, Carol Watson & Petru Popescu features small but notable details that were changed for the final cut. On top of that is the book’s use of an alternate ending, which is now thought to be lost.
Higgins Haven had become Hades. A maniac’s playground and a charnel house, all in one hideous night. That lurid technique of the prolific Avallone — who is remembered for his purple prose — pads out as well as occasionally elevates the succinct story of Part III.

Horror movies are known for bringing terror and violence, but even they have limits on their on-screen brutality and grim tones. More than just cutting content to avoid harsher ratings and overly putting off audiences, horror movies will occasionally change their entire endings. From not being consistent with the tone of the rest of the movie to going too far with its graphic content, these alternate endings are often major departures that would have changed everything. Even the biggest horror classics and established franchises see these big changes, altering endings for a variety of reasons in post-production.
With that in mind, we've rounded up some of the biggest horror movies with alternate endings that were more brutal than the ones included with their respective theatrical cuts. These planned endings each went a step too far with their content and tone, which is why each of them were ultimately cut. You'll...

Last year, author R. G. Now Henning has turned his attention to the next sequel in the franchise, 1982’s Friday the 13th Part III, with the retrospective book Jason 3D: A Comprehensive Exposé on Friday the 13th Part 3, and copies are available for purchase on Amazon! The book is currently going for the price of $18.99.
Jason 3D has the following description: In 1982-83, the 3-D movie craze took the American box office by storm. Spurred on by new three-dimensional projection technology, Hollywood studios gambled on genre films. By 1984, however, most 3-D features had flopped, and audiences soon lost interest. It’s time for a new episode of the Real Slashers video series, and with this one we’re looking back at my personal favorite entry in my favorite franchise: Friday the 13th Part III (buy the franchise Blu-ray set Here). You can find out all about it by watching the video embedded above!
Directed by Steve Miner from a screenplay by Martin Kitrosser and Carol Watson (with some uncredited polishing by Petru Popescu), Friday the 13th Part III has the following synopsis: The third installment in the “Friday the 13th” series picks up on the day after the carnage with homicidal maniac Jason Voorhees stealing some clothes and killing a local store owner. Meanwhile, Chris and her sometimes boyfriend, Rick, are hosting a group of teenage friends at Chris’ lake house. The 1980s were full of robots, lasers, odd fashion choices, and teen films, including the now cult film Chopping Mall (watch it Here). In this 1986 sci-fi film, a group of teenage friends and mall workers end up stuck in the Mall after closing hours when a trio of security robots are deployed for the first time.
In the 80s, anything futuristic or with robots seemed to get greenlit with budgets of varying levels and quality of varying degrees. Some of these films took themselves very seriously, too seriously even. However, Chopping Mall was one of those films with the perfect mixture of low budget, the right talent in front of and behind the cameras, and the right level of seriousness to its content and how it was approached. The film doesn’t take itself too seriously, but it doesn’t go full-on goofy, either. There is a “just right” aspect...

The Friday the 13th franchise (buy the Blu-ray set Here) is my favorite horror franchise. And while Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI is the movie I credit with making me a horror fan, my favorite entry in the series is actually Friday the 13th Part III. The film just celebrated its 40th anniversary last month, and to mark the occasion 2nd assistant camera operator Mako Koiwai shared a batch of awesome, never-before-seen behind-the-scenes pictures with the folks at Smoking Zombie Films. "Friday the 13th Part III" holds a special place in many a horror fan's heart. Not only is it the only disco-themed 3D entry of the extensive franchise, it's the first to depict slasher king Jason Voorhees in the hockey mask that would become his trademark, as recognizable as Freddy Krueger's bladed glove or Michael Myers' Shatner mask.
Steve Miner's 1982 horror sequel built upon the lore of Voorhees, who began his reign of terror in "Part 2" wearing a plain burlap sack over his head (not dissimilar from the Phantom's bag-mask in Charles B. Pierce's '76 horror picture "The Town That Dreaded Sundown"). "Part 3" sees the introduction of fresh blood at Camp Crystal Lake, a new group of young people staying near the cursed place for a weekend. Among them is Shelly (Larry Zerner), a prankster who brings along theatrical blood, trick props, and a hockey mask (originally...

Happy Friday the 13th, Campers! It’s time to talk about the high water mark of the Friday the 13th saga, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984), the action-packed fourth entry that was decidedly not the final chapter of this twelve-part (so far) series. Reader beware: this review is not devoid of spoilers, though this writer tries to maintain a few surprises for the uninitiated.
After Friday the 13th: Part III (1982) took terror into the third dimension, Final Chapter was able to capitalize on the best elements of its predecessors while smoothing out some of their storytelling hiccups. Final Chapter ports over the basic setup of Friday the 13th: Part II (1981) and Part III: Tormented former New Jersey summer camp attendee Jason Voorhees (Ted White this time around), wreaks belated vengeance on the same camp’s next generation of counselors. In the original Friday the 13th (1980), a surprising different...

From the ‘70s on calendar horror was all the rage with the slasher crowd; Black Christmas begat Halloween which gave us Friday the 13th and on and on, a red ‘X’ flooding the dates throughout the year. Of course we can’t forget birthdays either, so after Happy Birthday to Me we were offered Sweet Sixteen (1983), an interesting, sometimes icky film that leans closer to murder mystery than it does slasher.
Released in mid September by Century International, Sweet Sixteen got lost amid the masked mutilators and supernatural shenanigans of the day, but that shouldn’t deter any ardent fan of the era and those seeking a horror film grounded in story more than exploitation – depending on how it’s viewed.
The story of Sweet Sixteen has an air of Choose Your Own Adventure about it depending on which version you watch – the theatrical cut or the director’s cut.

The "Friday the 13th" franchise's crop of Final Girls are known for their keen survival instincts onscreen, but the careers of the actresses who played them? Not quite as impressive. When was the last time you heard the name "Amy Steel"? Dana Kimmell? Melanie Kinnaman? In celebration of Friday the 13th, here's our brief rundown of the post-"F13" careers of every Final Girl in the (original) franchise, from Adrienne King to Lexa Doig. "Friday the 13th" (1980) Adrienne King (Alice Hardy) After briefly reprising her role in the film's 1981 sequel, King became the victim of a stalker (the man ultimately pulled a gun on her). Shaken by the experience, she didn't return to acting until the 2010 low-budget horror/sci-fi film "Psychic Experiment." "Friday the 13th Part 2" (1981) Amy Steel (Ginny) Steel actually has two claims to fame in the horror genre, as she also starred in the 1986 pseudo-slasher "April Fool's Day.

It’s easy to lose your head—both literally and figuratively—when dealing with a foe as intimidating as Jason Voorhees. With a swing of an axe near the end of Friday the 13th Part 3, Chris Higgins (Dana Kimmell) kept her name off of Jason’s long list of victims, but that wasn’t her original destiny. Photos of the lost alternate ending show Chris facing Jason one more time… with a different end result.
Friday the 13th: The Franchise reports that Billy Kirkus has discovered stills of the alternate ending to Friday the 13th Part 3, in which Chris is surprised by Jason on the front porch, who then grabs Chris by her hair and beheads her with his machete. No footage of this original ending is believed to exist anymore, but when pieced together, the photos give you a shot-by-shot, flip book-style look at the alternate ending.

Code Red has been going “code blue” of late, releasing the likes of Nail Gun Massacre and Just Before Dawn on Blu-ray. We now know of seven more forthcoming Blu horror titles from the 70s, 80s, and 90s they have in the works to further empty your wallets in the coming year.

First up, for the first time ever, a director’s cut of Jim “Forced Entry” Sotos’ 1983 chiller Sweet Sixteen, starring the all-star cast of Aleisha Shirley, Don Stroud, Bo Hopkins, Dana Kimmell, Patrick Macnee, Susan Strasberg, Larry Storch, Henry Wilcoxon, and Michael Pataki.

Fright Rags recently announced that they would be releasing a limited edition Friday the 13th screenprint, with 60% of the proceeds going to support charities that help victims of domestic violence. The poster is signed by Adrienne King, Amy Steel, Dana Kimmel, and Kimberly Beck, and is now available.
“In the vast majority of horror movies, it comes down to the final girl who must face her darkest hour, and call upon her inner strength to vanquish the killer. Perhaps no film franchise is more popular in using this plot device than the Friday the 13th films.
Of course, when the credits roll we are reminded that we are in the comfort of our own homes and the violence we just witnessed was staged and designed for film. In the real world however, there is needless abuse occurring every day. In the Us alone, a woman is assaulted or battered Every 9 Seconds.

The genre T-shirt company Fright Rags has been producing unique pop culture apparel since 2003. Their horror-themed tees, with dynamic illustrations often punctuated with iconic catch phrases, have become essential accessories in the horror community.
If you’ve attended a major genre convention in the past few years, you’ve seen their products worn proudly by fans and film royalty alike. From iconic movie favorites (like A Nightmare on Elm Street) to the more wonderfully obscure (such as the '70s TV movie Killdozer), Fright Rags caters to a wide range of fandom flavors. More recently, they have ventured into the collectible poster arena, the next logical step for a company that often celebrates the distinctive artwork of classic one-sheets.
Fright Rags’ newest project, the limited edition collector’s screenprint Survive, is a perfect example of their clever approach to the ongoing horror dialogue. What is so often overlooked in fear...

While on the interview circuit for the last Expendables film, Sylvester Stallone cited 1989's Batman as the downfall of the action film. "The action movies changed radically when it became possible to Velcro your muscles on," adding "I didn't have to go to the gym for all those years." The man had a point. No matter how dumb, repetitive, or insultingly ridiculous the films of the period got, they remain watchable due to their 'authority of authenticity' as producer Sam Spiegel used to call it, and nowhere is that more evident than in Lone Wolf McQuade, starring that parody of American virility, Chuck Norris.
As you can tell from the title McQuade's a real social butterfly, who happens to take kindly to drug dealers, terrorists, and people who look at him sideways. Except, of course, it's actually the opposite of all that. Pretty much everything in McQuade's life can be...

If you have Netflix and are a horror fan in need of something to watch this Labor Day weekend, one look at this gargantuan list I compiled of the new terror titles Netflix has added for instant streaming in just the first three days of this month should keep you busy until Labor Day next year. You'll find something for everyone, from older titles to recent releases, famous to obscure, classic to not-so-classic, monsters to maniacs - you name it.
For the record, I considered compiling this list in alphabetical order or by year of the film's release, but then I realized I had already spent well over an hour just sorting through the massive catalogue of titles Netflix has now made available for instant streaming and realized Labor Day would be over by the time I finished arranging this list in any kind of order. Ready? Here you go.

Blu-Ray Review
Friday the 13th: Part Three 3D
Directed by: Steve Miner
Cast: Dana Kimmell, Larry Zerner, Richard Brooker
Running Time: 1 hr 32 mins
Rating: R
Plot: Jason Voorhees returns to Crystal Lake to stalk and kill almost-victim Chris (Kimmell) and her friends.
Who’s It For? Horror fans might enjoy renting this digital update. But moviegoers relatively new to Jason should check out Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan and even Jason X.
Movie:
This may not be Friday the 13th: A New Beginning, but Friday the 13th: Part Three is surely not one of Jason Voorhees’ better days. Sure, the film introduces the iconic hockey mask, and even has the 3D gimmick (more on that below). But as far as classic moments go (by that I basically mean murders), this one doesn’t offer too much gruesome goodness, its thrills flat...

- The Scorecard Review
Just about everyone who is evenly slightly versed in pop culture knows who Jason Vorhees is. Even those who have never seen a Friday the 13th film are familiar with the name. Jason's iconic status as a serial killer has him joining the ranks of serial killers the likes of which only Michael Meyers and Freddy Krueger have achieved. Because everything old is suddenly new again, New Line Cinema and Paramount Pictures are co-producing a remake of the 1980 low budget slasher flick. It hits theaters this Friday, February 13 (big surprise) and both studios are undoubtedly already counting the box office dollars in their minds even though not a single ticket has been sold. As the date nears, Paramount has grabbed some of the original films out of their vault and given them slick new DVD releases, the first one even hitting Blu-ray (read Brad's review of that one here...
