Stephen King can't stop. The best-selling horror novelist is nothing if not prolific, churning out books on a steady, unstoppable pace for decades now. For years, King said in interviews that the only days he didn't write were Christmas and on his birthday. Later, he admitted that was a lie — he wrote on those days, too. When you write that often, you produce a lot of work. But as King's career began in earnest following the publication of his debut novel "Carrie" in 1974, the publishing world had a curious rule: authors should only publish one book per year. That wasn't good enough for King — he wanted more.
"I've been asked several times if ... I thought I was overpublishing the market as Stephen King," King wrote later. "The answer is no. I didn't think I was overpublishing the market ... but my publishers did." King struck upon a solution to publish more...

Instead of discussing or even acknowledging Fox News’ settlement with Dominion Voting Systems earlier in the day, Tucker Carlson aired the second part of his interview with Elon Musk on Tuesday. And during this second installment of the meandering exchange, Musk advanced a curious idea about reproductive freedom, telling Carlson that birth control and abortion are contributing to the end of civilization.
Here’s how that came up. At one point, Musk said that procreation has been ”’subverted” somehow. Carlson asked Musk, “The urge to have sex and to procreate is, after breathing and eating, the most basic urge. Yes. How has it been subverted?”
“Well, it’s just the, in the past we could rely upon, um, you know, simple, uh, limbic system rewards,” Musk said. “In order to procreate. Um, but, uh, once you have birth control, um, and, you know, uh, abortions and whatnot, now, now you,...

George Santos weaseled his way into Congress by flat-out lying about nearly every major aspect of his backstory. Some Republicans, including those in his home district, have called for him to resign, but House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has stood by Santos, even assuring reporters that he’ll sit on committees like everyone else. The bit about sitting on committees appears to be too much for Santos, though, who reportedly told colleagues on Tuesday that he is temporarily recusing himself from doing so.

At the beginning of the Netflix documentary The Martha Mitchell Effect, Richard Nixon, deflated in his ex-presidential phase, sits for an interview with David Frost. A somber Nixon tells his natty interlocutor, “I’m convinced if it hadn’t been for Martha, there’d have been no Watergate.”
What he really meant, one can imagine, is that were it not for Martha Mitchell, Watergate wouldn’t have become the scandal that ended his presidency.
But as the documentary illustrates, blaming Martha Mitchell, obsessing over her, ridiculing and besmirching her had long and troubling antecedents to that Nixon interview. Generations born after Watergate don’t realize how much the mere mention of Attorney General John Mitchell’s wife set tongues wagging in Washington and across the country. The film directed by Anne Alvergue and Debra McClutchy is an Oscar contender for Best Documentary Short.

There are few things Republicans love more than harkening back to the American Revolution and 1776 — whether it’s in defense of their right to own high-powered assault rifles, to storm the Capitol in a deadly insurrection, or to obliterate the separation of church and state and turn America into a fascist theocracy.
So when Queen Elizabeth II died on Thursday, bringing a symbolic end to a era of British imperialism extending back to when those gun-toting, soon-to-be-American revolutionaries were fighting the Red Coats for freedom 250 years ago, conservatives welcomed the opportunity to turn the page.

John Oliver has never shied away from biting the hand that feeds him.
Over the years, the Last Week Tonight host has called taken several shots at HBO parent company AT&T, which he condescendingly refers to as “Business Daddy” and has frequently mocked what he calls its “terrible” service.
He also took jabs at AT&T during a segment about robocalls and went on a rant over the company’s support of “white nationalist” Steve King.
Last week, AT&T and Discovery Inc. unveiled their plan to merge their media and entertainment assets in a deal that will bring together cable networks including CNN, TBS,...

Des Moines, Iowa — The day before Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) questioned whether humanity would exist if it weren’t for rape and incest while speaking to a conservative group in Des Moines, he held two town halls, one in Charles City and one in Boone. Both were dominated by King’s views on immigration, which, along with opposition to abortion, is the lawmaker’s main point of emphasis as he campaigns for reelection in Iowa’s culturally conservative 4th District.

At a breakfast meeting of the Westside Conservative Club in Urbandale, Iowa on Wednesday, Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) paused to muse upon the sheer magnitude of violence visited upon women and children throughout the course of human history.
“What if we went back through all the family trees and just pulled out anyone who was a product of rape or incest? Would there be any population of the world left if we did that?” King asked. (He was discussing his view that abortion should be illegal under any circumstance, including rape or incest.

Rep. Steve King is back in the news and, somewhat surprisingly, it’s not for his overt racism. Not directly, anyway. This time, the Iowa Republican is drawing headlines for comparing himself to Jesus, telling an audience that the criticism he faced earlier this year for said racism reminded him of the persecution Christ had to endure before he was crucified by the Romans. This all happened while King was reflecting on the meaning of Easter, apparently.

The White House celebrated the departure of its communications chief Bill Shine holding its first press briefing in 42 days.
At the gathering, MSNBC and CNN asked White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders if President Donald Trump truly believes, as he reportedly told Rnc donors last Friday, that Democrats hate Jewish people.
Trump had cited the watered down resolution House Dems concocted in response to Rep. Ilhan Omar’s most recent remark considered by some to be another anti-Semitic trope.
“That’s a question you ought to ask Democrats,” Sanders shot back.
She praised Republicans for having called out Rep. Steve King and stripped him of committee memberships for his racist remarks. Trump did not participate in that condemnation.
Asked if Trump will steer clear of this kind of overheated rhetoric he used in his 2016 campaign, and in the White House, Huckabee Sanders called it a “shame” that Dems “are...

Sacha Baron Cohen is an entertainer, not an educator. His new Showtime series, Who is America?, doesn’t respond to the question that its title poses. Instead, Cohen invites us to laugh at the answer.
Still, the chameleonic Cohen finds truth in the course of his deception. In the two weeks since his show premiered, we have seen “Erran Morad,” his fake Israeli anti-terrorism expert, coach former Republican lawmakers and gun zealots to advocate for the arming of schoolchildren. The Iowa Congressman was in D.C. Friday when he addressed the outcry ... telling us he's visited one of the centers, and found it totally hospitable.
