Close friend of the writer Erich Kästner.

German actress and author of children's books. Began on stage in 1930 and appeared in ingénue roles in several feature films before her untimely death in a car crash on May 1 1939.

Herti Kirchner made her stage debut at the Stadttheater in Salzwedel at the age of 17. When she went to Berlin two years later this was the beginning of a brief but intensive film career.

On May 1st, 1939 at five o'clock in the early morning came Herti Kirchner's life to a sudden end when she was killed by a car accident. She died because of a cerebral hemorrhage. She didn't live to see first night of her last movie "Wer küsst Madeleine?" (1939).

Besides her cinematical works she also appeared on stages and in cabarets where she was able to show her comical talent too.
