Scream Factory is looking to have another great week, as they are once again dominating this Tuesday’s home media releases with their Collector’s Editions for both The Entity and Frankenstein Created Woman, as well as a stunning Steelbook Edition of Joe Dante’s Piranha. Synapse Films has also put together a Special Edition for the criminally under-appreciated Slaughter of the Innocents, we’re also getting a Steelbook for Tobe Hooper’s Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and for those of you who can’t get enough Ghostbusters releases, there’s a new Steelbook featuring both the first film as well as its sequel, including some unearthed footage that hadn’t been released previously.

Syfy has warmed the cockles of my heart for their unflinching commitment to bring the cheesiest B-movies to TV for Saturday night movie night. It's a throwback to the days long ago when The Blob, The 50 Foot Woman and It Came from Outer Space entertained and served a much-needed niche of mindless entertainment. The star of this epic flying fish tale is Jason Fitch (Paul Logan and his amazing abs), or Senor Feeesh as his nemesis Colonel Antonio Diaz (David Labiosa) refers to him. Fitch plays the special forces agent to perfection, and doesn't even flinch or crack up when American scientist Sarah Monroe (Tiffany!) tells him the Mega Piranha has two hearts and is a Hermaphrodite,...

I first interviewed Eric Forsberg back in August of 2006 in anticipation of the release of Snakes on a Train. Now here we are in April of 2010, and I am interviewing him again in anticipation of Mega Piranha, another killer animal mockbuster he's made for The Asylum.

I'm feeling a sense of déjà vu. With Mega Piranha debuting on Syfy April 10th and then hitting DVD shelves on April 27th, now seemed like a good time for a lighthearted return engagement with Mr. Forsberg discussing the majesty of Mega Piranha, what it's like working for the mockbuster masters at The Asylum, and his past, present, and future projects.

Foy: When we first spoke back in 2006, it was in anticipation of the release of Snakes on a Train. Now here we are in 2010 speaking in anticipation of the release of Mega Piranha. Is there no escaping the Asylum?

Eric: No, there isn’t,...

Oh no, a mutant strain of piranha have been released from the Amazon! They are coming this way to bite the s*(^ out of your DVD player, unless 80s pop queen Tiffany (Necrosis) can stop them! This is the plotline for the latest Asylum release, Megapiranha, which releases on DVD April 27th. The Asylum is on the loose with the campiest of horror. 6 Guns, Paranormal Entity, and a strangely lucid Sherlock Holmes are all titles from The Asylum catalogue, that will be released shortly.
