In preparing for the music video "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", there was a small budget so Cyndi bought furniture and painted the sets for the living room and her bedroom, found a tablecloth with a pattern to copy for the kitchen walls so it would have a very 1950s look, handed out her collection of sunglasses to all the girls for the shoot, and shared her makeup with all the women.

Sang in dance cover bands in the 1970s until she lost her voice in 1977, when doctors told her she would never sing again.

(November 19, 1997) Son, with David Thornton, Declyn Wallace Thornton Lauper, named after singer Elvis Costello, whose real name is Declan Patrick MacManus.

Her mother has appeared in several of her music videos.

Toured in 1997 with Tina Turner, and 1999 with Cher.
