WWE wrestler Road Warrior Animal, real name Joe Laurinaitis, has died. He was 60.
Animal and Road Warrior Hawk (real name Michael Hegstrand) made up tag teams the Road Warriors and Legion of Doom (later simplified to “Lod”). As The Road Warriors, Laurinaitis and Hegstrand terrorized the Awa (American Wrestling Association), Nwa (National Wrestling Alliance) and WCW (World Championship Wrestling).
In 1990, when they came to WWE — which was still WWF at the time — the team was renamed Legion of Doom.
By either name, the guys wore face paint and spiked shoulder pads inspired by 1981 film “Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.” The intimidating duo used a tandem finishing maneuver, the Doomsday Device, to defeat their opponents.
And defeat opponents they did: Animal and Hawk won the tag team titles twice and were enshrined into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2011 alongside manager Paul Ellering.

You never know what you’re going to find at the “night drop” at the Animal Friends of the Valleys shelter in Wildomar, California. In this case, it was a dog that looked a lot like a pink Dalmatian.
The pink pup and a buddy, who are actually boxers, were there waiting on the morning of Feb. 13 — both suffering from a treatable skin condition called demodex mange. They would both later be named Asia and Artie. While some people give information about the animals they’re leaving behind at the anonymous drop-off kennel, on this particular day, that wasn’t the case.

Known as the Legion Of Doom when working in the World Wrestling Federation, Hawk and Animal were also commonly referred to as The Road Warriors. Throughout their respective careers, both men were almost-constantly linked with one another. Arguably, they didn’t have as much success in the WWF as they earlier had in the Nwa and elsewhere, but they’re still a memorable team for many fans from the early-1990’s.
As tough as they were, one member of the tandem didn’t always have the strongest stomach. This article features one fact relating to that weakness, and it makes for a highly entertaining story. That’s what this list is all about, providing 10 different pro wrestling related facts that even the most hardcore of grappling fans may not have known about last week.
Joining The Road Warriors are the likes of Rey Mysterio, Finn Balor and Bill Goldberg.

Back in 1993, director Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel were given the tough task of converting a non-narrative Nintendo video game into a motion picture. That movie of course is Super Mario Bros. and it’s the first live-action video game movie ever made. It is also not very good and this week the NXpress team set aside some time to discuss this strange beast. During our main event, we review Typoman, a two-dimensional puzzle platformer distinguished by a unique game world. You slip into the role of the Hero struggling to make your way through a dark, surreal world. Despite your small stature you have a powerful gift: You can use letters to alter your environment! And finally, Tim gives us his long awaited review of Animal Crossing amiibo Festival for the WiiU. All this and more!

The Funhouse Massacre presents itself as just another indiscriminate indie-horror flick, but as someone who’s been fooled by many similarly crafted duds, I can assure you that this roadside slaughterhouse is a much more enjoyable beast. Writer Ben Begley, who also plays a bumbling deputy, is not only able to craft a horror flick that’s loads of hellish fun, but this colorful massacre remain consistently funny throughout – not an easy task for scary comedies these days. While Begley’s tongue-in-cheek antics become a bit overplayed in a few instances, it fares far better than most jovial copycats of the same ilk, and holds its own against modern gore-chucklers with much bigger budgets. In the vein of a much more over-the-top The Houses October Built, The Funhouse Massacre is one of 2015’s hidden horror gems despite a smaller-format rollout, loaded with guts and bursting with psycho-carnie ferocity.

I’m not entirely sure why, but in the end, it doesn’t really matter since both versions get a spot either way. Representing Latin American, U.S. Latino, and non-Latino artists who explore multicultural relationships from singular perspectives, the films at this year's Sundance Film Festival include an array of stories that showcase the diverse creative voices that exist within the Latino filmmaking community.
This list includes both films that have been created fully or partially by Latin American or U.S. Latino filmmakers, as well as those that deal with themes and ideas relevant to the Latino experience in or outside the Unites States, even if these were not created by Latino artists. The increasing interest in these stories testifies to how rapidly Latinos are becoming constant and strong voices in all areas of the film industry.
In order to highlight as many of these talented creators and films as possible, we’ve created a list that includes all the films at the festival that are helmed by or that incorporate Latino talent and those that focus on a specific aspect pertinent to the Latino community. Some are obvious standouts like Argentina's acclaimed dark comedy "Wild Tales" or Colombia's "Liveforever" from Carlos Moreno.
Then there are those who at first sight might not fit the parameters of what one could think is a Latino film. This is the case of films like Eli Roth's "Knock Knock," which is an English-language horror film whose co-writers, producers, and part of the cast are originally from Chile. There is also " Aloft," a drama in the Spotlight section, which is set between Canada and Minnesota and stars Jennifer Connelly. It was written and directed by Academy Award nominated Peruvian filmmaker Claudia Llosa.
The third case includes those films that deal with subjects that have Latino elements or that explore diversity in the U.S in some way. Examples of these are "The Strongest Man" from Kenny Riches, a film narrated in Spanish by its protagonist "Beef," a charming, yet lost Cuban-American man in Miami; or "Cartel Land" by Matthew Heineman, which focuses on the violence shared between Mexico and U.S due to the drug-fueled chaos that afflicts the region. On a lighter note, there are films like “City of Gold” by Laura Gabbert, in which Los Angeles is seen through its ethnic food and local idiosyncrasies.
In an effort to give exposure to those films in the program that don’t get as much attention, the list below starts with the Shorts Programs and ends with the Dramatic Premieres. Each title is linked to its page on the Sundance website where screening times and locations can be found. Regardless of what films you watch at the festival, it is likely that your eyes will be expose to the work of some amazingly talented Latino filmmaker, writer or actor, or those who appreciate our stories as much as we do.

The 1992 Royal Rumble was the most unique Rumble PPV of all time because it’s the only time the WWE Title was up for grabs in the Royal Rumble match. Due to that reason, it was arguably the most important Rumble match ever.
It’s actually surprising that WWE hasn’t duplicated that aspect of the show because it put such a huge importance on the winner of the match. Perhaps it is something that Vince McMahon only wanted to do one time and never again, which makes a lot of sense.
The WWE Title was up for grabs because of controversial finishes in matches between Hulk Hogan and The Undertaker. This was only a year after Undertaker’s debut and he was a heel. Due to the controversy, WWE President Jack Tunney vacated the title and announced that the winner of the match would be the new WWE Champion.

Throughout the summer, an admin on the r/movies subreddit has been leading Reddit users in a poll of the best movies from every year for the last 100 years called 100 Years of Yearly Cinema. The poll concluded three days ago, and the list of every movie from 1914 to 2013 has been published today.
Users were asked to nominate films from a given year and up-vote their favorite nominees. The full list includes the outright winner along with the first two runners-up from each year. The list is mostly a predictable assortment of IMDb favorites and certified classics, but a few surprise gems have also risen to the top of the crust, including the early experimental documentary Man With a Movie Camera in 1929, Abel Gance’s J’Accuse! in 1919, the Fred Astaire film Top Hat over Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps in 1935, and Stanley Kubrick’s The Killing over John Ford’s...

There are no shortage of reasons to take a trip to Australia. From swimming in the crystal clear waters near the Great Barrier Reef to cuddling up with kangaroos and koalas, the country is a tourist.s dream destination. If that all sounds a little too pedestrian for you, then perhaps a vacation built around exploring the Mad Max 2 Museum is more your speed. Adrian Bennett is one of the many fans of the 1981 cult classic, but he wasn.t content to just talk about his love for The Road Warrior on Internet message boards and Facebook. No, Bennett took things to another level . and moved his family from England to the Outback so he could open the world.s first, and only, repository for The Road Warrior memorabilia. Vice recently caught up with the museum.s curator and owner, who gave the site a tour of his monument...

The first trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road has arrived online and man is it cool. This is a smaller version of what was shown over the weekend at Comic-Con, and for many, it was the most impressive footage -- not just because it's rad as hell, but also in the way it so faithfully and passionately recaptures the wicked look, tone and feel of the original Mad Max franchise, or more specifically its second installment, The Road Warrior, which first hit theaters all the way back in 1981. Check out the four impressive character posters that debuted along with the trailer below, and let us know what you think of the whole crazy thing. Mad Max: Fury Road hits theaters on May 15, 2015.

Hugh Jackman looks crazy.
The actor is currently playing Blackbeard in next year’s Peter Pan prequel Pan. Yup—everything in that last sentence proves that we’re living in the hilarious dystopia our greatest science-fiction writers warned us about. But don’t despair, because Jackman isn’t just playing Blackbeard: He’s also rocking a very distinctive Blackbeard look–bald head, elaborate beard–and he’s rocking it in public, mostly in the stands at Wimbledon. Here’s everything Hugh Jackman looks like now:
Walter White, Heisenberg Form.

Schiffer Publishing, Ltd. is pleased to announce the release of their new movie companion World Gone Wild: A Survivor’s Guide to Post-Apocalyptic Movies by David J. Moore with a foreword by Vern available now in bookstores and online retailers. A loving ode to a universal genre of film. An entire subculture of end-of-the-world themes was spawned from films like The Road Warrior, Escape From New York, and The Terminator. While those films are still being emulated today, film makers all around the world continue to produce radically unique films with startling perspectives of humanity facing the end of all things. This book offers pointers and a frame of reference on how the characters behaved when their worlds were on the brink of desolation. It covers the genre’s biggest blockbusters...

If the publicity material so far presented to us is to be believed, Guardians of the Galaxy represents something of a gear-shift for Marvel. We seem to be presented with fewer clear-cut goody/baddie lines than previously, a slightly grungier aesthetic and, in Chris Pratt’s Star Lord / Peter Quill, a “hero” that is a little more at the “anti” end of that particular spectrum.
The trailers make quite a lot of play of this shift, detailing the eponymous guardians as “outlaws, thugs, assassins and a maniac”. Whether the final product will simply give us a set of loveable rogues with all of the rough edges smoothed off in the interests of making the whole venture more palatable, remains to be seen. Marvel have developed a very profitable, very effective conveyor belt and may be loath to mess with their winning formula.

When Teen Wolf is at its best, it is mining all possible feels out of its situations. “Feels” is a relatively new term coined by the Tumblr generation, which means that basically Teen Wolf successfully replicates the emotional roller-coaster that is the teenage experience. First love, first crush, bromances, the never-ending travails of a transforming body, Teen Wolf handles all these very well indeed, without being too heavy-handed. When the show is heavy-handed, it usually doesn't stay that way for too long. Being a teenager is a horror show, and nobody knows that better than Derek Hale.
Derek Hale, everyone's favorite grouchy mentor and foil to Stiles, was found in a teenage state (played by Ian Nelson) last week by the gang in their Mexican cave. This week he's back in...

In today's world of studio movie making, let's face it, it's all about franchising. It's all about the sequels. In fact, this weekend we have two sequels hitting theaters in 22 Jump Street and How to Train Your Dragon 2. The first is a comedy sequel and it's receiving great reviews, despite the fact comedies rarely have good sequels. The second has the potential to be one of the biggest movies of the summer and perhaps the biggest animated movie of 2014. Whyc Sequels sell and if they're good they sell even more. That said, last week I started considering the sequels that were actually better than the original film in any given franchise. This isn't a question of what are the best sequelsc (I've already made that list.) Instead, what sequels managed to exceed the quality and entertainment of the film(s) that came before them. In this sense I have...

“Nobody shoots a car the way Aussies do.” So says Quentin Tarantino in the must-see 2008 Ozploitation documentary Not Quite Hollywood. And Qt’s words are reconfirmed by director Greg McLean’s new film Wolf Creek 2 – the sequel to his 2005 tale of terrible-things-happening-in-the-Australian-outback — which owes as much to the likes of The Road Warrior (and Steven Spielberg’s classic auto-thriller Duel) as it does the torture porn genre.

While his return was not celebrated in the sense that he wasn’t cheered much by the WWE Universe, he did have an impressive showing in the WrestleMania 30 main event as he tapped out to Daniel Bryan in a match that also included Randy Orton.

This is still Sparta! The muscles are still tremendous, the chests still massive, the beards nicely-trimmed and the togas and capes varying degrees of red and white. 300: Rise Of An Empire is attempting to re-create the sensation that came from the thrill of watching 300. But, oddly enough, action films have shown to be the one genre resistant to sequelization. Most people go big the first time, and topping that proves to be a challenge. The 1970s and early 1980s represent a curious episode in the history of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ features. The famous studio rarely produces outright poor movies, yet this period is just as rarely mentioned in the same breath as its first decade or so, when classics like Pinocchio, Bambi, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs came to be, or the baptized renaissance that began with The Little Mermaid and lasted until Tarzan. It feels as though the aforementioned decade and a half feature a steady stream of decent, generally appreciated outings but nothing most people cite as being their favourite efforts. The programmers at the Alamo Drafthouse have compiled a list of their 100 favorite movies and beginning in January they'll be launching the Alamo 100 in all of their theaters with seven titles that capture the spirit of the list, with many more screening throughout the year. The list was compiled by R.J. Laforce, Tommy Swenson, Tim League, Joe Ziemba, Greg MacLennan and Sarah Pitre with information on each title, why it's on the list and which one of the names above selected it for their list available right here. Personally, I love this and am actually in the middle of developing something very similar for this very site, a way of writing about films that aren't necessarily the best ever, but my favorites. I actually hoped to have the new section ready this month, but I just couldn't get it finished. For now, however, check out the Alamo 100 and leave your thoughts in the comments.

Earlier this month, Tom Hardy described Mad Max: Fury Road's extensive reshoots as "building more Mad Max", but the movie - which started filming last July - may now finally be back on track. Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow have today announced that the follow up to Mad Max, The Road Warrior and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome will finally be released on May 15th, 2015. That's quite a wait, although they also confirmed that it will be in 3D, so that might...soften the blow? Are you guys looking forward to this release? Be sure to sound off below!

In the history of indie film, sequels haven’t been very common. If we exclude horror movies, that is. And now documentaries. There’s Clerks II, S. Darko, John Duigan’s Flirting, Wayne Wang’s Blue in the Face, Lars von Trier’s Manderlay, What Becomes of the Broken Hearted? and I guess The Road Warrior (and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome). There tend to be weird circumstances and technicalities for a lot of them, too. One of the purest examples of an indie sequel is, of course, Before Midnight, which is even rarer for being a third part. It’s possibly the most beloved and critically acclaimed film of the year, and it could very well lead a new wave of follow ups to indie favorites and cult classics that aren’t necessarily easily banked genre flicks. Back in May we learned of another indie threequel in the works, Hal Hartley’s Ned Rifle. The...

Wait, Crop Tops on dudes were cool?
Apparently some people thought so. It really wasn’t out of the ordinary to catch a guy sporting a belly shirt in an ’80s movie, especially if said movie had a workout scene or some type of nod to sports. Shawn ‘Liberal Dead’ Savage pitched this idea to me a few weeks back, and we started tossing names back and forth to each other. Some of the memories were clouded, though. We’d throw a couple of titles into the field, only to search it out and discover that we were wrong as shit. But we got some heavy hitters, for sure. I always found half shirts to be pretty damn sexy on a lady. On a dude, it just looks kinda weird. However, 9 times out of 10, the man with enough nerve to wear one was either a hottie or at least popular.

CBS has partnered with Litton Entertainment on a new Saturday morning programming line-up that will target teens with shows hosted by the likes of celeb chef Jamie Oliver, retired boxer Laila Ali and Insider personality/Espn alum Kevin Frazier.
The three-hour block is FCC educational/informational compliant and will carry a pro-social message aimed at viewers age 13 to 16.
The line-up — which is branded “The CBS Dream Team,” bows Sept. 28 and will replace the network’s current block (including Liberty’s Kids, The Doodlebops and Busytown Mysteries) — looks like this:
Lucky Dog | Animal trainer Brandon McMillan swoops into shelters across the U.

Okay, so I apparently need to make this much, much harder as Driver was able to post the correct answers to all 24 of the movie titles in my second "Guess the Movie Titles" game within less than an hour. Of course, it makes me happy less than upset as you all came together to figure it out, which is my intention, but I want it to take much longer than two hours... two weeks is more like it! That said, today I present the answers for anyone that missed them previously and if you'd like to guess without seeing the answers you can click here for the original post, just avoid looking at the reader guesses in the comments. I wasn't at all surprised #10 stumped a lot of you, but the fact #22 proved so tough was a lot of fun to watch, especially when Django wrote, "It strikes me as...

As fans we’ve seen wrestling go to some extreme measures that led to some epic encounters over the years. From Hell in a Cell to Last Man Standing, there have been many stipulations over the years that push the boundaries of brutality and the human anatomy. But there was only one match that went beyond… The War Games.
No matter where it was placed in schedule, the signature two cage spectacular was always the big draw for WCW. Strange alliances would be made and WrestleWars along with fall brawls would be forged in a team battleground of steel and blood . No Pinfalls. No Disqualifications. It’s just Submission or Surrender.
In the latest WWE DVD release: “War Games: WCW’s Most Notorious Matches” they look back at what happens when there are no other options and wrestling has go to war. I have to admit I was very...

Father's Day is this weekend. Did you forget? Don't fret, we've got you covered. We've combed through this year's new DVDs and Blu-rays and plucked out a nice range of films that should give you some shopping ideas. Though we've picked a best film in each category, we vouch for all of these films being quite good, and they should be available at most retailers near you since they're all discs that have come out within the last six months. For the Action Fan Best of the Bunch: Mad Max Trilogy - This new set contains a reauthored Blu-ray of The Road Warrior (which looks a little better, but sounds a whole lot better), as well as the previously unreleased Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Each movie is a classic in its own right and should...

This week the more interesting titles are in the "Even More" section as Universal is releasing some of its Classic Monster movies on Blu-ray along with more individual Blu-ray releases of some Hitchcock titles as well as his "Essentials" Collection. It also reveals the fifth season of "Breaking Bad" and the Blu-ray release of the Mad Max Trilogy. Warm Bodies At home and DVD and Blu-ray is where Warm Bodies is going to find its extended life. I wasn't a huge fan of the way director Jonathan Levine substituted storytelling with familiar music, but I know a lot of people really liked this film and I get that. It's a perfectly sweet little story with some rather comical moments and at home, where standards are even lower, it's going to flourish. You can read my review from earlier this year right here.

Some franchises add numbers to their sequel titles. Think Spider-Man 2 or Iron Man 3 or Final Destination 5. Other franchises opt for more eccentric, colonized sequel-subtitles, like Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End or Thor: The Dark World or the inadvertently flipped The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Sometimes franchises get particularly fanciful with how they incorporate the original film’s title: Die Hard beget Die Hard With a Vengeance, Live Free or Die Hard, and A Good Day to Die Hard, titles which are uniformly better than their movies. But if a franchise is especially cool, they...

Greetings from the apocalypse! This here is my twentieth weekend column, which seemed like as good a time as any to reach out to my fellow weekend road warriors to say if you have any suggestions for upcoming films/local weekend events to feature in future editions just write me on Twitter. Signed 8 x 10 glossies will be sent to fans at my secretary's discretion. But seriously, write away — give this wandering rōnin of the desert some feedback, yo.

I'm admittedly not a huge fan of the "Hangover" franchise — only in America and possibly France could such a thing spawn a franchise — so when I tell you "The Hangover Part III" has nary a laugh or even...

Go on! Indulge in the very best movie promo tie-in ever: the Oblivion-branded Mandatory Memory Wipe, available at the concession stand with the popcorn and nachos. It’s so cool! Cuz then you walk into Oblivion with no recollection of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Independence Day and 2012 and The Road Warrior and Planet of the Apes and the entire history of science fiction movies, and hence you’ll enjoy yourself ever so much more. And you get to be like Tom Cruise (Jack Reacher, Rock of Ages)! Because a “mandatory memory wipe” is exactly what his Jack Harper has undergone. It’s a security thing, you see, in case he gets captured by the alien Scavengers still scurrying around on planet Earth, still hanging out even though they lost the war with humans. (You’d think they’d take a hint and go home, but no.) The Scavs are intent on causing trouble,...

There was a time in Hollywood where sequels to successful movies were the exception, not the rule. More often that not, if a picture was a success, like 1940′s The Road to Singapore with Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, studios would reunite its cast for other stories or adventures that were not sequels in the true sense of the word. Bogie and Bacall. Martin and Lewis. Lemmon and Matthau. Abbot and Costello.
Sure there were film franchises like the Bowery Boys and Dagwood and Blondie, and later film series like the James Bond and Pink Panther films. But these took familiar characters and sent them on new adventures with each outing.
The modern sequel continues the storyline of the original, and there are some fine examples like The Godfather Part II, The Road Warrior, The Empire Strikes Back and Aliens, all of which were worthy sequels and terrific films. Then...

It’s not always the actors that are the stars of a film. Sometimes it’s the car. Here’s our list of the 10 most iconic cars in movie history.
Much like in our everyday modern life, cars are a big part of movies. They have created many memorable moments, been a part of many exciting action sequences, and helped to define characters clearly. Cars are much more than just another movie prop. Sometimes they are part of the cast, and others they are the main attraction.
This list commemorates those cars that went above and beyond simple transportation in a film. These are cars that define a particular movie or character. These are cars that, when seen in real life, conjure up images of their movie counterparts. These cars have infiltrated popular culture and become historic icons of both film and motoring.

James Cameron's The Terminator is a masterpiece of cinematic storytelling, conceived by Mr. Cameron while in Rome with a fever years earlier (the late director Robert Altman had a similar situation that led to the writing of my favorite film of his, Three Women, released in 1977). Shot in early 1984 for roughly $6M (the amount spent solely on the sound mix of the superb $90M sequel seven years later), this futuristic action powerhouse grabs the audience by the throat and takes us on a wild ride. Despite the inexorable pace – much like the titular villain’s nature – the film manages to come up for air and miraculously never feels over-the-top, long-winded or plodding.
The Terminator opened on Friday, October 26, 1984 and yours truly missed out on seeing it, electing to see the horror film greatest hits compilation Terror in the Aisles instead.
