- At one time he worked as personal driver for bandleader Tommy Dorsey.
- Produced Judy Garland's first album for Capitol Records in 1955.
- Served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a B-17 gunner. He was once shot down and captured, but managed to escape. He was three times recipient of the Air Medal and also won the Distinguished Flying Cross.
- After World War II, he became manager for comedy acts, like Rowan & Martin. In the 1950's, Laurence worked as entertainment director at the Flamingo in Las Vegas.
- Member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the organization which awards the Oscars, otherwise known as the Academy Awards, although he was never nominated for any awards from AMPAS.
- He was a record producer before he was a film producer.
