  • Max Laurence continued his film career successfully in the 20s before a stroke finished his career.
  • Because of his great successes on German stages he took part in an America tour in 1881. He enjoyed the trip so much that he decided to remain in the USA for the next ten years and he worked among others at the Lyceum Theater in New York, both as an actor and director.
  • He extended his artistic activity as a cabaret artist from the middle of the 10s.
  • Before he decided to become an actor he got an education at the Kunstakademie as a painter. After his education he joined the theater in Magdeburg at the age of 19, later followed engagements on other stages in Nuremberg, Amsterdam and Breslau.
  • After his return to Germany he continued his theater career at the Neues Theater Berlin and at the Schillertheater among others.
  • The film business became aware of Max Laurence acting abilities as well and although he already was 60 years old he was able to gain a foothold at the film business with his first movie "Die Launen einer Dollarprinzessin" (1911).
  • In 1882, he took part in a tour of America and remained in the USA until 1892. There he played for Friedrich Haase and Friedrich Mitterwurzer, among others.
  • He worked for five years as an actor and director at the Lyceum Theatre in New York, most recently in San Francisco.
  • He preferred to play aristocrats and other dignitaries, such as Prince Hohenfels in the adventure film The Eyes of the Mummy Ma.
  • After suffering a stroke that left him paralyzed on the left side, Laurence had to end his acting career.
