Melinda Lawton's career spans 25 years. After earning a B.A. in graphic
design from the University of Florida, she became video design director
for WBZ-TV Boston. She then became art director for WABC-TV in New York
City. In 1988, she moved to California to start Lawton Design, where
her clients include ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, Disney, A&E, History Channel,
King World, The WB and Paramount. In addition to her primary business
of creating main title design sequences and opening animations for TV
and film, Lawton does logo design, magazine advertisements, web design
and interactive media. She also designs jewelry, which has been
featured in many national magazines and was worn by singer Carrie
Underwood as she won American Idol. Lawton has earned two Emmy
nominations for Outstanding Achievement in Main Title Design-the first
in 1994, for Rhythm & Jam, the second in 2001 for Sagwa: The Chinese
Siamese Cat. She is currently a member of The Board of Governors of The
Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, representing the Title Design
and Special Visual Effects peer group. For the Television Academy, she
designed the logo for TV Cares and the cover for Ribbon of Hope.
