Few franchises own a day of the year, but even fewer own an inconsistent date. That inconsistency helps make every Friday the 13th feel like a surprise in its own right, which makes any time to celebrate Jason Voorhees a worthwhile occasion. With that in mind, one of the cooler aspects of the franchise has been a rotating group of actors, each with their own spin on Jason Voorhees. Don’t get us wrong, a lot of this comes down to the directors and quality of the movies, but each brings something unique to the role.

Considered a classic in horror and slasher genres, Friday the 13th’s popularity has led to the making of many more films in this series, and has turned Camp Crystal Lake into the most dangerous site in the United States.

Last year, writer/director Justin M. Seaman brought us a sequel to his 1989-set slasher The Barn (check out my review Here, get the movie Here)… and now he’s working on wrapping up the trilogy with a film appropriately titled The Barn Part III! Jason Voorhees has become synonymous with his iconic hockey mask, which has kept the "Friday the 13th" franchise in the public consciousness despite Jason having not appeared in an official, franchise capacity since the 2009 remake. Throughout the Friday the 13th series, many actors have played the iconic killer, Jason Voorhees, some better than others. Ari Lehman – who played Jason Voorhees in the original Friday the 13th – is actively against charging fans for autographs or photo ops, although the shift in the industry has forced him into complying.

Speaking with iHorror, Ari Lehman said that the overall cost of getting to and attending a con is steep enough; add to that several hundred dollars from collecting autographs and such and you’re talking about one pricey weekend. “If someone pays to get there, you’re paying for gas, you’re paying to park, paying to get in, and now you walk up to the first table and somebody is asking for, I don’t know, maybe $50.00 for an autograph and a selfie.

Crystal Lake, Peacock’s upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series from studio A24, has found its new showrunner in Brad Caleb Kane (It: Welcome to Derry), Deadline has learned.

In addition to showrunning, Kane will serve as the series’ creator, writer and executive producer. He assumes the reins from Bryan Fuller, who confirmed his exit from the project in May, noting that “A24 has elected to go a different way with the material.”

First announced in October 2022, Crystal Lake‘s plot specifics are being kept under wraps. Horror fans love the actors who star in such films, often becoming quite devoted to them. It's not just the ones who deserve awards, either. To understand just how important all horror film performances are, one need only take a look at the talent lineup for any given horror convention. Many people are just as happy to meet someone who was killed third in a random "Friday the 13th" sequel as they are to talk to special effects artists and directors.

Sometimes, though, actors in horror films get swapped out for various reasons.

This Friday happens to be a Friday the 13th – and the Blairstown Diner, which was featured in the 1980 classic Friday the 13th (watch it Here), will be celebrating the date by teaming up with Spirit Halloween for a one-day special event. Three years ago, Paramount Pictures gave the 1980 classic Friday the 13th (watch it Here) a Blu-ray steelbook release to celebrate the film’s 40th anniversary. Now the folks at Fridaythe13thFranchise have caught word that Paramount is set to give the film a 4K steelbook release on October 10th – three days before an actual Friday the 13th rolls around on the calendar. They even got their hands on a picture of the 4K steelbook, and you can check it out at the bottom of this article.

It looks like this steelbook will be using the same artwork as the Blu-ray steelbook, but it will also come with a slipcover featuring artwork that was used for Waxwork Records’ vinyl release of the film’s score.

A behind-the-scenes image from A24's Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake, shows the production team behind the upcoming horror series working alongside the original film's final girl. The upcoming horror series is set to explore the history of the foreboding summer camp long before Pamela Vorehees (Betsy Palmer) and her son Jason (Ari Lehman) began their respective bloody and brutal killing sprees. Crystal Lake, which will air on Peacock, is helmed by television producer Bryan Fuller, who is responsible for hit series such as Pushing Daisies, Hannibal, American Gods, and Star Trek: Discovery.

Finally, after a wait so long people were wondering if it would ever happen, The Barn Part II, Justin M. The upcoming Crystal Lake prequel series will feature an appearance by the final girl from the original Friday the 13th. The 1980 film, which follows Mrs. Voorhees (Betsy Palmer) murdering counselors at Camp Crystal Lake as revenge for the supposed drowning of her son Jason (Ari Lehman), starred Adrienne King as Alice Hardy, the only survivor of the massacre. Alice is a capable young woman who ends up decapitating Pamela before escaping onto the lake in a canoe. She returns in the opening sequence of 1981's Friday the 13th Part 2, where she was killed off by a now grown-up Jason.

Yesterday, Fandom's Eric Goldman reported from a Los Angles screening of 1982's Friday the 13th Part III which featured a Q&a with cast members from the film as well as Bryan Fuller, who is a writer and producer on Crystal Lake, which is being developed with A24 and Peacock.

If its debut is any indication, Silver Scream Con is, at long last, a worthy successor to the throne. Created by Massachusetts’ own horror-inspired metal band Ice Nine Kills, the first ever Silver Scream Con took place August 26-28 at the Doubletree Boston North Shore in Danvers, Ma.

Rock and Shock catered to the intersection of music and horror, but with Ice Nine Kills’ rabid cult following behind it, Silver Scream Con brought in a new audience beyond die-hard genre fans. Informal polls conducted before each panel consistently showed that more than half of the attendees were at their first horror convention.

A brand new horror convention on the scene, the first-ever “Silver Scream Con” is set to debut this weekend (August 26th–August 28th) just north of Boston, Massachusetts.

The inaugural “Silver Scream Con”, curated by Spencer Charnas, front man of the band Ice Nine Kills, brings together horror celebrities Skeet Ulrich, Kane Hodder, Doug Bradley (Hellraiser), Nick Castle (Halloween), Bill Moseley, Danielle Harris, Tom Arnold, Ari Lehman (Friday the 13th), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), and more for a three-day convention along with a Saturday night concert — headlined by Ice Nine Kills and featuring horror-rap duo Twiztid and Ari Lehman’s metal band First Jason.

Friday the 13th remains trapped in legal limbo. The long-running litigation between franchise producer Sean S. Cunningham and the original film’s writer Victor Miller continues to rumble through the appeals process, though it seems Miller currently has the upper hand. There’s been some indication that this dispute may be finally resolved sometime in Summer 2020, though I would imagine that the Coronavirus pandemic and social distancing rules will have a delaying effect on non-urgent civil proceedings.

But while a new Friday the 13th movie isn’t happening for some time, fans can at least experience the murderous wrath of Jason Voorhees on their tongue. New Orleans based filmmakers Terror Optics have been churning out some “interesting” genre films in the last 15+ years beginning with the extreme horror Goreface Killer in 2002 and following it up with the likes of Goregasm and Grimewave.
