Simpson), Allan Havey (Billions, Mad Men), Nate Jackson (Young Rock), comedian Mo Welch, Nancy Lenehan (The Boys, Veep), Molly Ephraim (A League of Their Own, Last Man Standing) and Tracy Letts (Saturday Night, Divorce) — will have guest roles on the series from creators Greg Daniels and Michael Koman. Welch is also a writer on the series.

The guest stars for the series from Greg Daniels and Michael Koman include Duane Shepard Sr. (“The Conners,” “Loot”), Allan Havey (“Loot,” “Glow”), Nate Jackson (“Young Rock,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Mo Welch (“Kwaczala, Corporate”), Nancy Lenehan (“The Boys,” “Extended Family”), Molly Ephraim (“A League of Their Own,” “Pretty Smart”) and Tracy Letts (“Saturday Night,” “Mr. Throwback.”) Welch also serves as a writer on the series.

Expanding a horror short to feature length is tricky work, particularly when the short in question gets straight to the scares. Writer/Director Bryce McGuire’s 2014 short Night Swim, a collaboration with Rod Blackhurst, cut straight to the horror to exploit everyone’s worst fears about swimming pools. Almost a full decade later, McGuire’s feature expansion showcases more ways to mine terror from the aquatic concept, buoyed by a great cast, but a familiar formula and simplified mythology threaten to sink it all.

There is much to be mined from using water as a source of terror, but Blumhouse’s latest is less of a horror and more of a family drama. There are layers to the story, which makes the film a gripping watch on its own, but you’ll be sorely disappointed in the lack of genuine and chilling scares if you’re a massive horror fan.

She’ll play Marianne, the warm, caring and responsible mother of Julia (Kemper) who’s been taking care of her kids for the last six years. “Having been a working single mom herself, Marianne is not without compassion for Julia’s situation and she loves her grandchildren, but she’s done. Marianne has decided to live her own life from now on, and that includes having an affair with a guy named Rene and firmly taking some time for herself,” reads the character description.

The 2019 Sundance Film Festival has announced its Indie Episodic, Shorts and Special Events slate, which will include series executive produced by people like Jordan Peele and Steven Soderbergh, as well as episodic content starring Rosamund Pike.

The Untitled Amy Berg Documentary, directed and produced by Berg, will also be heading to the festival, as will Kyra Sedgwick’s “Girls Weekend,” starring Amy Landecker and Ali Liebegott.

Overall, 12 episodic works, 73 short films from 33 countries and four special events have joined the festival slate that was first announced last week. Of the projects announced on Monday, 53 percent were directed or created by one or more women, 51 percent were directed or created by one or more filmmaker of color, and 26 percent were created or directed by one or more people who identify as Lgbtqia.

In only its second year of bringing independent television to Park City as part of its Indie Episodics section, Sundance has picked a dozen series that could include the next big TV hit. Among the announced independent shows include works by Nick Hornby, Richie Mehta, and Kyra Sedgwick, which range from comedies about start-ups to dating comedies about trans relationships to dramas about race. Sundance is also bringing in some other TV projects under its Special Events banner, including the newest season of IFC’s ongoing doc parody series “Documentary Now!” and Gregg Araki’s upcoming Starz series “Now Apocalypse,” executive produced by Steven Soderbergh.

TBS has opted not give a third-season renewal to its summer series People of Earth, the network’s supernatural-tinged comedy. Creator David Jenkins tipped the news last night on Twitter, and the move comes after the network had initially renewed it in the fall along with fellow summer series Wrecked and The Guest Book.

Jenkins told fans that Season 3 of the single-camera comedy, from Conan O’Brien’s Conaco and Warner Horizon Television, had already been written.

The series, executive produced by Greg Daniels and O’Brien, revolves around a group of alien abductees – or “experiencers” – living in the small town of Beacon, NY.
