John Thompson, who brought The Expendables to movies as the head of production at Millennium Films, has died. He was 71 and passed away Tuesday after a battle with leukemia, according to a Millennium spokeswoman. Thompson started at Millennium in 1996, producing three Expendables films, as well as the Jason Staham vehicle The Mechanic and many other motion pictures. He had a long association with Millennium principals Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Danny Dimbort, Danny Lerner…...

John Thompson, the longtime head of production at Millennium Films who helped shepherd the company's lineup of high-testosterone action fare like the Expendables movies, has died. He was 71.

Thompson died Tuesday in Los Angeles after a battle with leukemia, a Millennium spokeswoman announced.

Thompson started at the company when it was launched in 1996 and had a long association with Millennium principals Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Danny Dimbort, Danny Lerner and Boaz Davidson.

Lionsgate top brass announced on Tuesday (8) that the latest episode in the action series will premiere in the UK on August 4.

Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dolph Lundgren return to the fray with cast regulars Jet Li, Randy Couture and Terry Crews.

Santa Monica, CA November 12, 2013 – Summit Entertainment, a Lionsgate® (NYSE: Lgf) company, has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Millennium Films’ action-adventure Hercules: The Legend Begins starring Kellan Lutz (The Twilight Saga, the upcoming The Expendables 3) and directed by Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger). Summit will release the film in 3D and 2D nationwide on February 7, 2014. Summit Entertainment has picked up Millennium Films’ Hercules: The Legend Begins starring Kellan Lutz.

The distributor has set a 3D and 2D release for February 7 2014 through Lionsgate.

Renny Harlin directed the action adventure about the mythical Greek strongman and son of Zeus who flees oppressors to claim his true love. Daniel Gliat wrote the screenplay.

Danny Lerner, Les Weldon, Boaz Davidson and Harlin produced and Avi Lerner, Trevor Short and John Thompson serve as executive producers.

Jason Constantine, Eda Kowan and Wendy Jaffe negotiated the deal for Lionsgate with Lerner and Mark Gill for Millennium Films.

Avi Lerner's Millennium Films is set to produce and finance "London Has Fallen," a sequel to this year'a surprise action hit "Olympus Has Fallen" which grossed $161 million worldwide on a modest budget.

The story deals with a plot to strike at London during the funeral of the British Prime Minister. Only the President Of The United States, his secret service head and an English MI6 agent can save the day.

Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman are set to reprise their roles, while Angela Bassett and Radha Mitchell also star.

Katrin Benedikt and Creighton Rothenberger will return to write the screenplay, but a director is not yet locked.

Butler, Alan Siegel, Mark Gill, Matt O’Toole and Danny Lerner will serve as producers. Shooting is scheduled to begin in London on May 5th.

With leading man Kellan Lutz taking to New York Comic-Con over the weekend, Millennium has launched the first trailer for next spring’s action blockbuster, Hercules: The Legend Begins, a title which suggests that the studio might be eyeing a franchise with this next year.

Previously known simply as Hercules 3D, Renny Harlin’s action/fantasy blockbuster will be hitting cinemas a good few months ahead of Brett Ratner and Dwayne Johnson’s Hercules: The Thracian Wars, and it will be interesting to see how the two films compare come the end of summer.

It looks like production has officially started on Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables 3, and the first photos from the set have leaked out to prove it. They feature Stallone coming into work for the day and a guy playing around with a big gun.

So far, the confirmed cast for the film includes Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harrison Ford, Jason Statham, Kellan Lutz, Ronda Rousey, Wesley Snipes, Victor Ortiz, Glen Powell, Antonio Banderas, and Mel Gibson. This movie is being directed by Patrick Hughes, and I'm sure it will be just as ridiculous and action-packed as the first movie. I can't wait! Here's the synopsis:

Liam McIntyre ("Spartacus") has been cast in a leading role in Renny Harlin's "Hercules 3D" at Nu Image/Millennium.

The story deals with a romance between the son of Zeus and the mortal princess of Crete, who was promised to his older brother despite her love for Hercules.

Kellan Lutz stars as the title character, with McIntyre as the young army captain Sotiris who becomes Hercules’ most trusted battlefield companion.

After an evil king deceives them, Hercules and the captain are sold into slavery and must fight side by side to earn their freedom.

Sean Hood, Harlin and Giulio Steve wrote the script, while Les Welden and Danny Lerner are producing. Shooting kicks off in May in Bulgaria.

Levelling up from slave to soldier, Spartacus: War Of The Damned star Liam McIntyre has just joined the cast of Renny Harlin's Hercules. By all accounts he'll be playing an important sidekick of Kellan Lutz's demigod. Harlin's is the Nu Image / Millennium version of the story, not to be confused with Brett Ratner's Paramount / MGM take that's also on its way to production, starring Dwayne Johnson ("I'm Hercules." Ubisoft has officially announced that they will be releasing The Expendables 2 Video Game later this summer for Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and the PC. A prequel to the upcoming blockbuster, the game will be a third-person shooter with support for both local and online four-player co-op play.

Jason Momoa was only six years old when the original Conan the Barbarian debuted starring a newcomer named Arnold Schwarzenegger. Now, the Hawaiian born actor is headlining his own take on the classic character with Conan the Barbarian 3D -- debuting in theaters August 19.

The key to any reboot of a franchise, especially one known for launching the career of the larger-than-life Schwarzenegger, was finding the right Conan. The actor had to not only look the part, but also make audiences forget there ever was another actor wielding the title character’s sword. “When we first met Jason, we saw everything that we hoped Conan would be.
