- Leontovich was the daughter of a Russian Tsarist army officer. Her father and three brothers fought with the White Russian forces and were captured, tortured and killed by the Bolsheviks. She, however, survived the Russian Revolution and escaped to Paris, reaching the U.S. in 1922.
- Was nominated for Broadway's 1958 Tony Award as Best Actress (Dramatic) for "The Cave Dwellers."
- Taught drama in California and New York and was artist in residence at Chicago's Goddman theatre in the 1960's.
- Studied under Meyerhold at the Moscow Art Theatre.
