- Austrian character actor, trained at Vienna's Max Reinhardt Seminar. From 1933 a long-standing ensemble member of the Burgtheater. In films from 1935, almost invariably cast as royalty or aristocrats: crown princes, regents, counts and barons. Taught at the Max Reinhardt Seminar for thirty years.
- He was the father of actor Florian Liewehr.
- The actor Fred Liewehr was engaged by Max Reinhardt to the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna in 1931, two years later followed an engagement at the Burgtheater.
- His activity in movies became more intensive after the war.
- During his long theater career he impersonated more than 260 parts in about 8000 shows.
