MGM Director Clarence Brown said in a story in the May 1936 Silver Screen magazine "Then there's Eric Linden. That boy is one of the finest actors in pictures. If they handle him right he is due for a lot of well earned glory. Because of his size and his boyishness I do not think he will ever become a very great star, but I still believe that when he is properly cast there isn't anyone in pictures who can touch him.".
