- Raised in Recife, Pernambuco.
- Daughter of Pinkouss and Mania Lispector (died in 1930).
- Born in Ukraine, she moved to Brazil at a very early age in 1922. She lived in Maceió, Alagoas and soon moved to Recife, Pernambuco - where she was raised until 1935. The Lispector family then moved to Rio de Janeiro and settled there. She lived in many places since then like London, England, Bern, Switzerland, Naples, Italy, Washington, D.C, U.S. and Belém, Brazil.
- Has two older sisters named Tânia and Elisa.
- Mother of two boys named Pedro (b.1948) and Paulo (b.1953).
- Sometimes would write under the pseudonyms Helen Palmer and Tereza Quadros.
- Only made one appearance on television, an interview granted for TV Cultura which was broadcast a few days before her death.
- She died one day before her 57th birthday.
- She is considered as one of the greatest Brazilian writers and novelists of all time.
