Cherry Orchard", in a tie with
Theoni V. Aldredge for "Annie"; and in 1990 for
"Grand Hotel, The Musical"; and as Best Scenic Designer, in 1989 for
"Cafe Crown". In addition, he has been Tony-nominated nine other times:
as Best Scenic Designer, in 1973 for "That Championship Season"; in
1974 for "What the Wine-Sellers Buy"; in 1977 for "American Buffalo;"
also in 1977 for "The Cherry Orchard"; in 1981 for "The Suicide"; in
2003 for "Long Day's Journey into Night";and in 2005 for "Glengarry
Glen Ross"; and as Best Costume Designer, in 1998 for "Ragtime"; and in
1999 for "Fosse".
