Return of the King chronicles the life of Elvis but, in particular, tells the sotry of his 1968 Comeback Special that aired on NBC and marked his return to live music after 7 years focused on his rather mediocre acting career. "He had one chance to show the world he was still the King of Rock 'n' Roll." Apparently it is approved by his estate because Graceland posted about it, too. With appearances by Bruce Springsteen, Conan O'Brien, Billy Corgan, Darlene Love, even his ex-wife, Priscilla Presley, and Elvis movie director Baz Luhrmann.

She’s late-night royalty thanks to her record 21 performances of “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” on David Letterman’s NBC and CBS shows, but Darlene Love says she isn’t feeling the love from Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show.

Since Letterman’s retirement in 2015, Love has performed her signature Christmas song on The View, NBC’s Christmas in Rockefeller Center, and even on Letterman’s YouTube Channel. For 28 years, it was a holiday tradition for Darlene Love to perform her signature hit “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” on David Letterman’s late night shows, but that all came to an end when he went off air in 2015. Now, they’ve reunited for Letterman’s YouTube channel to pick up where they left off.

Before Love sang “Christmas” with accompaniment from Letterman’s longtime band leader Paul Shaffer on piano, they all had a chat about the tradition. Letterman also asked Love about recently performing the song with Cher during the Rockefeller Center tree lighting special.

This prompted Love to air out her feelings about never being asked to play the song solo for the annual ceremony. “Do you know they wouldn’t hire me for that?” she said, noting that other artists have performed the track instead.

The National Film Registry just granted immortality to 25 classic films. Every year, the Library of Congress chooses another class to be preserved for posterity, and this year’s group includes some major blockbusters like “Terminator 2,” “Home Alone,” and “Apollo 13.”

To be eligible, a film must be at least 10 years old and carry what the library considers to be “cultural, historic or aesthetic importance,” in consultation with National Film Preservation Board members and other experts.

NBC saw solid ratings on Wednesday night with the airing of two Christmas specials

Airing from 8-10 p.m. on Nov. 29, the annual “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” special reached an audience of 7 million people when accounting for three days of delayed viewing across NBC, Peacock and digital platforms. That number, calculated from a combination of Nielsen measurement and NBCUniversal’s proprietary data, marked the best viewership for the Rockefeller Christmas tree lighting since 2020. The special was the most-watched program on TV that night, and improved on last year’s viewership by 7%. In the key adults 18-49 demographic, it earned a strong 0.8 rating.

Days after Cher heralded the arrival of the holiday season with a performance alongside Santa Claus at the Thanksgiving Day Parade, the icon made Christmas official by closing out the annual Rockefeller Center tree lighting with Darlene Love.

Sixty years after Love first recorded the classic “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” — which, ironically, had Cher on backup vocals — the two singers reunited once again to re-record that song for Cher’s recent Christmas album. This year’s Christmas In Rockefeller Center televised special is airing Tonight (November 29) to kick off the holiday season in NYC, and we have all of the details right here.

The holiday special will be broadcast live on NBC at 8pm Et/Pt, and simulcast on Peacock, and will be hosted by Kelly Clarkson, who will perform some of her holiday hits as well.

The tree this year is an 80-foot tall, 43-foot wide Norway Spruce from Vestal, New York, weighs approximately 12 tons, and is set to feature more than 50k multi-colored LED lights, with a three-dimensional Swarovski star covered in three million crystals at the top.

Last month, the icon released her first-ever holiday album. Christmas featured duets with Darlene Love, Cyndi Lauper, Stevie Wonder, Michael Bublé and Tyga. She billed this as “not your mother’s Christmas album” in the lead-up to the release.

Stripped of a handful of tracks filled with contemporary signifiers, Cher’s Christmas could have been released at any point in the singer’s nearly six-decade career. Whether it be a faithful rendition of “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” featuring the original queen of Christmas, Darlene Love, or the ingratiating original song “Christmas Ain’t Christmas Without You,” the majority of the album’s 13 tracks opt for a traditional holiday approach.

Singer Mariah Carey will not be able to call herself the legal Queen of Christmas after her trademark requests to claim that phrase as well as “Princess Christmas” and “Qoc” were all denied by the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.

While Carey certainly has a stranglehold on the Christmas season ever since she released the song “All I Want For Christmas Is You” in 1994, her claim to trademark the Queen of Christmas honorific quickly received backlash from other singers Elizabeth Chan and Darlene Love.

Chan, who is a self-proclaimed full-time Christmas singer, told Variety, “I feel very strongly that no person should hold onto anything around Christmas or monopolize it in the way Mariah seeks to in perpetuity.” Chan filed a formal opposition to Carey after the trademark claim was made public.

Love didn’t make any concrete legal claims, but...

Mariah Carey has reportedly lost her bid to officially trademark the phrase “Queen of Christmas.”

On Tuesday, the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board denied Carey’s attempt, along with other titles she tried to gain rights to like “Princess Christmas” and “Christmas Princess,” according to a release obtained by TMZ.

The “All I Want For Christmas” singer applied for the trademark in March of 2021. At the time, she quickly faced backlash after legendary singer, Darlene Love, and musician, Elizabeth Chan, fired back at Carey’s attempt.

In Carey’s filing, she stated that she planned to use the trademark for “fragrances, lotions, nail polish, jewelry, cups, mugs, chocolate milk, coconut water … as well as ornaments, toys, dog clothing, masks, lingerie and sweatshirts,” as TMZ reports.
