Gravitas Ventures has nabbed the worldwide distribution rights (excluding Germany) to Santa Girl, the romantic comedy starring Wizards Of Waverly Place alum Jennifer Stone. Directed by Blayne Weaver, The Capital Arts Entertainment film will get a day-and-date release in theaters and on demand August 30. Stone plays Santa Claus’ only daughter, Cassie Claus, who wants to experience the “real world” before she must marry the son of Jack Frost, a boy she has never met, and take over the family business. Along with her trusty elf, she sets off to college while trying to keep her magic powers and famous father a secret. At school Cassie is pursued by two boys: Sam, sweetly awkward and J.R., handsome and wealthy. Brace yourself for another romantic comedy about a woman whose cynical approach to love is deemed unacceptable, and so must change. How great was the late Orson Welles? So great that he's even making movies from beyond the grave. Rare recordings of Welles narrating Christmas Tails, a self-published novel by Robert X. Leed, will be used to create a new 3D live-action/animation film, according to reports. The project will be directed by Todd Tucker, a veteran make-up effects artist, and produced by Drac Studios, who created the outstanding effects for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Welles recorded the book in 1985 as a favor to Leed, who was a personal friend. Welles died a few months later, and the tapes have gathered dust in Leed's La Vegas home ever since.

The story, about what happens when Santa's reindeer get sick and his dog comes to the rescue to save Christmas, will be adapted by Matt Thompson. Welles' voice will be used for narration.

Oscar-winning special effects and makeup house Drac Studios has opened up a production arm, Drac Studios Louisiana, and announced its first live-action feature, Dead in the Water. For the time being Drac is leasing space in Baton Rouge's Raleigh Studios Celtic Media Center.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Dead in the Water was written by Si Dunn and will be directed by Rob Walker with production being headed up by Drac president Harvey Lowry.

No plot details were made available, but taking into account Drac's track record of working on genre projects and the film's title, we figured it was safe to assume horror will be involved in one form or another.
