"I'm suggesting a little competition..." Gravitas Ventures has debuted the first trailer for Harvey Lowry's indie comedy The Competition, making fun of relationships and the way things work in this day and age. Thora Birch stars as a woman who becomes the "voice of a generation" by starting a romance blog about how relationships should only last 6 months, at which point you must break up before your mate becomes unfaithful. She is introduced to the perfect guy, played by Chris Klein, but refuses his advances. So they setup a challenge to choose five friends in long relationships and attempt to get them to cheat. It plays out from there, and yadda yadda. The film's full cast includes Claire Coffee, David Blue, Gabrielle Stone, Jason Tobias, and Tiffany Fallon. Not really my kind of romantic comedy, but check this out if you want. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Harvey Lowry's The Competition,...

Brace yourself for another romantic comedy about a woman whose cynical approach to love is deemed unacceptable, and so must change. This time, it will be titled The Competition, and will star Golden Globe nominee Thora Birch (Ghost World), with Harvey Lowry (A Play On Words) in the director’s chair. The possible saving grace for this one is that Birch is also on board as producer, along with Jasmine Fontes, and Kelsey Tucker – who wrote the script.
So, what is the groundbreaking plot of this independent movie? Well, a woman finds blogging success in the promotion of a theory that recommends her female readers should end their relationships after six months, in order to “avoid heartache.” She cannot be allowed to continue pedalling such a chilly social attitude, however, and so an attorney challenges her to a competition designed to disprove her troublesome theory.

How great was the late Orson Welles? So great that he's even making movies from beyond the grave. Rare recordings of Welles narrating Christmas Tails, a self-published novel by Robert X. Leed, will be used to create a new 3D live-action/animation film, according to reports. The project will be directed by Todd Tucker, a veteran make-up effects artist, and produced by Drac Studios, who created the outstanding effects for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
Welles recorded the book in 1985 as a favor to Leed, who was a personal friend. Welles died a few months later, and the tapes have gathered dust in Leed's La Vegas home ever since.
The story, about what happens when Santa's reindeer get sick and his dog comes to the rescue to save Christmas, will be adapted by Matt Thompson. Welles' voice will be used for narration.

Orson Welles died more than twenty-years ago but that won.t stop him from doing a new movie. THR says you can expect to hear him narrating the upcoming children.s movie Christmas Tails. It.s happening because of some recently uncovered Welles recordings in which he narrates a Christmas novel. Those recordings are being used a basis for the film which is a live action/CGI hybrid that will, of course, also be shoehorned into 3D. What.s it about? That.s where it gets a bit confusing. It.s being produced by Drac Studios and their head honcho Harvey Lowry describes it this way: .It's a movie about how Santa's dog saves Christmas.. Ok that part makes sense. Now for the part that doesn.t: .But on one level, this a story about the discovery of Orson's lost tapes.. I.m pretty sure you can ignore that second...

But most of the copies were lost and Leed let the originals sit on a shelf for 25 years before Drac studios head Harvey Lowry learned of their existence.A quick call to the Welles estate,...

The creative team behind Drac -- Lowry, Todd Tucker and Ron Halvas, with creative direction by Greg Cannom -- has won Oscars for "Bram Stoker's Dracula," "Mrs. Doubtfire" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button...
Si Dunn wrote the script, which will be directed by Rob Walker and produced by Drac president Harvey Lowry.
"With all of the indie and studio films being shot in Louisiana, it was an easy decision to open a facility in the state," Lowry said. "Now we can offer other producers the Louisiana tax incentives for our special effects and makeup effects as well as take advantage of them ourselves for our own productions."
The company is leasing space in Baton Rouge's Raleigh Studios Celtic Media Center.
