Sam Rubin, a popular entertainment reporter on KTLA since 1991, died Friday. He was 64.
A source close to the station confirmed that Rubin died at his home of a heart attack after doing his regular Hollywood news segments on KTLA’s 7-9 a.m. “Morning News” program on Friday.
Rubin was a fixture in Hollywood who enjoy rare longevity with a single station throughout his career. On camera, Rubin was unfailingly jocular and warm, often talking about his off-air activities with his wife and four children. Chatting with Rubin live on Ktla has long been a staple of any publicity tour for stars of movies, TV shows, concert tours and anything else involving entertainment.
As an anchor and reporter in Hollywood’s backyard, Rubin also covered the inner workings of Hollywood, usually offering a fan’s “gee whiz” perspective on the machinations of studios and networks and the excesses of the rich and famous.

Former Good Day La anchor Dorothy Lucey today made a visit to rival Ktla Morning news, addressing her dismissal from Kttv, where her contract was not renewed after 17 years co-hosting the Fox station’s morning show with Jillian Reynolds and Steve Edwards. Lucey also spoke about her new project, a talk show produced by American Idol‘s Nigel Lythgoe. The talk show, Good News Girls, which Lythgoe is now shopping, features five prominent Los Angeles female anchors — Wendy Burch, Pat Harvey, Christine Devine, Lucey and Ana Garcia — who have a charity of the same name. The five would cover all sorts of topics on the show, including charity.

Additionally, Lucey’s co-anchor Jillian Reynolds will switch from a full-time Kttv employee to freelance status. Perhaps a move like appearing on "Good Day La" (weekdays, 9Am Pt on Fox) to discuss how she felt ambushed in Part 1 of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Reunion" was what Kyle Richards was referring to when she said being friends with Lisa Vanderpump is "like playing chess with Bobby Fischer." Or maybe she was just defending herself from a barrage of attacks.
Nevertheless, Vanderpump speculated that the dynamic on display at the reunion may have emerged because she was "out of the loop," busy planning her daughter's wedding and opening a new restaurant, while the other ladies were getting on the same page. When Steve Edwards joked that the other Housewives had "ganged up and planned" a bad day for Vanderpump, she not only agreed, but also elaborated on the conspiracy theory. "Adrienne did say to Brandi, 'Oh, let's meet the night before,' and Brandi declined. I know that for a fact,...

Leachman went on to wish White a happy birthday, and apologized for not making it to her birthday bash (she was "forced to go to a Fox event"). Steve Edwards asked Leachman, who's four years younger than White, if it was nice to have an older woman for a role model.

Casey's eclectic style, which is a little rock and a lot of jazz, got him all the way to the Top 6 in Season 10, but he didn't connect with everyone. When Dorothy Lucey asked him if he thought he was too weird for 'Idol,' he concurred. "I feel ... yes, yeah. A little too much, you know?"

Dorothy Lucey started the rapid-fire examination. "There are rumors about you and your partner ..." but before Cavallari could finish denying them, Jillian Reynolds jumped in. Cavallari wouldn't comment that, but definitively denied she and Ballas are dating. "Nothing is going on with the two of us," she said.

Cavallari wouldn't comment that, but definitively denied she and Ballas are dating. "Nothing is going on with the two of us," she said.

On July 27, Kat Von D walked out on an interview with 'Good Day La' (weekdays, 9Am Pt on Fox), reportedly in a huff over questions about her former fiancée, reality TV star and motorcycle builder Jesse James. A month later, TLC canceled Kat's show 'La Ink,' on the same day she announced she was back together with James, leaving 'Gdla' anchor Dorothy Lucey to try to put the whole sideshow into some sort of context.
"She made up with Jesse James and she broke up with her TV show, all basically at the same time," said Lucey. Not only is Kat back together with James, the two are engaged again. Lucey went on to mention rumors that the couple had never broken up in the first place, and Kat's tweet yesterday which seemed to imply she quit the show, despite the official line that it was canceled.

Why do Jen’s friends keep blabbing about Brad? She needs to find a new crowd!
Ok, here’s a weird little coincidence: Jennifer Aniston’s ex-boyfriend Vince Vaughn became a first-time father to a baby girl Dec. 18 — the same birthday as Jen’s ex-husband, Brad Pitt! What’s even weirder is that a friend of Jen’s is the one who first pointed out the bizarre situation.
Jen’s longtime acting coach Leigh K. Smith tweeted the following message to Good Day La co-host Dorothy Lucey: “btw, in the file marked ‘weird’ vince vaughans daughter was born on brad Pitts birthday. Please don’t retweet this, thanks.”
Wow! Why can’t Jen’s friends — first Chelsea Handler and now Leigh – stop talking about Brad? Is this more proof that the starlet still wants him back?

Fox 11 morning show host Steve Edwards accepted the Governor's award at the 62nd Annual L.A. Area Emmy Awards Saturday night with characteristic self-depreciating humor about five decades on the dial in Southern California, the last 15 years as host of "Good Day L.A." "I'm feeling too young for this award," joked Edwards. "I'm just getting started."
But it was Knbc's night to sweep the top Emmy awards for English and Spanish language local news stations in Southern California. KNBC4 won six Emmys alone and one with Spanish station KVEA52. Those included the Emmys for Daily Evening Newscast (Ch.4 News at 11); Daytime Newscast (Ch. 4 News at 5 p.m.), Outstanding Hard News Reporting (Ana Garcia and Fred Momoun), Entertainment Program ("My 1st Time Nominated for an Academy Award") and outstanding news feature (Chuck Henry).
Public TV station Kcet tied for second with five Emmys, along with Ktla, which took best morning show.

Matenopoulos, Neville say 'Good Day'

'Good Day' for L.A. sweep
It was a good book for Good Day, L.A. Fox O&O KTTV Los Angeles beat KNBC's Today and KABC's Good Morning America to win the competitive morning news race locally during the just-concluded May sweep (April 24-May 21). Good Day, hosted by Steve Edwards, Dorothy Lucey, Jillian Barberie and Rod Bernsen, scored its first May sweep victory with a 4.1 average household rating and 13 share in the 7-9 a.m. slot, according to Nielsen Media Research figures. Good Day was up 28% in ratings from the May 2002 sweep, while KABC's Good Morning America was off 10% (3.5/11), and KNBC's Today was down 21% (3.0/9). Placing second to Good Day was KTLA's Morning News (3.7/12, up 16%), which tied Good Day for third place in the May 2002 sweep. Univision flagship KMEX also was on the upswing in the time slot with a 40% gain for its Despierta America (2.1/7). In the 9 a.m.-3 p.m. daytime/afternoon block, KABC remained the station to beat, thanks to the strength of 9 a.m. talk show "Live With Regis & Kelly" (4.4/14, down 2%) and The View (4.1/13, up 8%) at 10 a.m. KABC's 3 p.m. afternoon anchor, The Oprah Winfrey Show, had a strong sweep, dominating its time slot with a 10% gain from May 2002 to 5.5/15. KNBC's fortunes perked up at 4 p.m. with Dr. Phil (4.6/11), which improved 64% on the number the NBC O&O pulled in May 2002 with its 4 p.m. newscast. KABC once again dominated the afternoon/evening news field at 4 p.m. (5.1/12, up 11%), 5 p.m. (5.5/11, up 6%) and 6 p.m. (5.6/10, down 2%).
