Howard G. Malley graduated from Emerson College in 1968. He began his
career in broadcasting working as a Summer Technical Engineer beginning
in 1963 at WOKR in Rochester, New York and worked in the same position
at WBZ-TV and WNAC-TV in Boston, MA for two summers.
In 1969 he became a Unit Manager for WNBC overseeing many local shows including "Jets Huddle with Joe Namath and Leroy Neiman". He also worked on local news and specials including the Christmas Tree Lighting in Rockefeller Center in 1970. He was the Unit Manager on the Emmy Award winning documentary "What Man Shall Live and Not See Death".
He was promoted to the position of Unit Manager at the NBC Television Network and worked on the original Jeopardy show with Art Fleming and Don Pardo. He worked on the Today show traveling in the 1972 Election year taking the show to almost all of the primary's and conventions. In 1975-76 He was in charge of 50 remotes--one from each state airing each Friday. He was on the road for the entire year.
In 1977 Bob Bardo, head of Unit Managers at ABC in Hollywood, brought him to Los Angeles. He was there one day and a 26 week NABET engineering strike ensued. Malley stayed at ABC for two years doing such specials as the American Music Awards; the 50th Academy Awards and many other specials.
He left to become a freelance Associate Producer (today's jargon would be line producer) working on many specials and did many shows with Award Winning Director--Jeff Margolis.
His most memorable project was producing all of the video for the "We Are The World" project getting every person and piece of equipment donated at no cost. He won two MTV Awards for this project.
Malley left the business in 2006 after suffering medical problems.
He had worked with his wife April for many years and has four children; Lauren, Kristin, Corey, and Emily.
