Law & Order Should Bring These 3 Characters Back as Guest Stars
Image
It’s always a pleasant surprise when one of our favorites from the past returns on Law & Order.

We’ve seen so many great actors and characters come and go from the main show and its spinoffs, and every so often, we get to see one back in action for at least one episode.

Many times it’s just for a friendly visit, a casual consultation, or to provide some necessary information, and other times they’re more involved in the case.

(NBC/Screenshot)

There are many former characters that fans want to see return for a season, but I’d like to see these three specifically from the Law & Order franchise pop up again in a future episode.

Let’s Revisit Defense Attorney Paul Robinette

A serious blast from the past would be Paul Robinette (Richard Brooks) returning to the show after his hiatus.

Why NBC Canceled The Irrational After Two Seasons
Image
Jesse L. Martin is a treasure. I was incredibly fortunate to see him originate the role of Tom Collins on Broadway in the legendary 1996 production of "Rent" (after it transferred from its first home at the New York Theatre Workshop), and I walked out of that performance excited to see what he'd do next. That wound up being "Law & Order," where Martin put in 198 episodes of work as Detective Ed Green. This was a decade-long assignment that, for the most part, took him off the film and theater market. Given how extraordinarily well network television pays if you're a main cast member, you can't begrudge a working actor for prioritizing a regular paycheck.

As an occasional "Law & Order" viewer, Martin has only ever been terrific as Green. But as the years have passed, you can't help but get greedy as a viewer and wonder why he doesn't challenge himself more often.

The season ender in March now serves as its series finale. “We built something so special. Two glorious seasons with dearest, @gradyano aka Jesse, @arikalisanne and #TheIrrational family. NBC's TV Show Canceling Spree Continues as Crime Drama Series Gets the Axe After 2 Seasons
Image
The crime-drama Found, which premiered on NBC in 2023, won’t be getting a third season on the network. Per Deadline, the series led by Shameless alum Shanola Hampton has been canceled. However, hope is not lost yet for fans of Found as the series may be shopped around by its lead studio, Warner Bros. Television.

News of the series’ cancellation comes ahead of its May 15 Season 2 finale, which will now serve as the end to the show. The finale has already been teased as a confrontation between Hampton’s Gabi Mosley and Sir’s (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) sister Lena, played by Danielle Savre.

Found is NBC’s latest victim in the network’s cutback on entertainment programming, which aims to accommodate 180 primetime hours of NBA basketball next season. NBCUniversal inked a $2.5 billion deal with the NBA to air games next season.

NBC Swings the Axe Ahead of Upfronts: Found, The Irrational, and More Get the Boot
Image
NBC is cleaning house ahead of its 2025 Upfront presentation on Monday, and the casualties are already piling up.

The network has canceled multiple series in one fell swoop, with Night Court, Lopez vs Lopez, The Irrational, Found, and Suits: LA all officially off the schedule. And with the day still young, there’s reason to believe more are coming.

Let’s break down what’s been cut — and what that says about where NBC is headed next season.

Night Court (Canceled After Three Seasons) (Nicole Weingart/NBC)

The revival of the beloved 1980s sitcom came in hot back in 2023, debuting to strong numbers and plenty of nostalgic goodwill.

Melissa Rauch stepped into the lead role as Judge Abby Stone, with John Larroquette reprising his Emmy-winning role as Dan Fielding. But after three seasons, NBC has called it a day.

Court is no longer in session as Night Court, Suits LA, The Irrational, & more get cancelled by NBC
Melissa Rauch
After sentencing several TV series to cancellation, NBC is bringing the gavel down on them. The Night Court reboot, starring Melissa Rauch, is the first series to get cancelled. The courtroom comedy lasted three seasons, with Lacretta and John Larroquette co-starring in the shenanigans. After a strong start, the show’s year-to-year numbers steadily declined. Nostalgia is a powerful tool in Hollywood, but with so much competition, it shows that springboards from fond memories eventually fade.

According to Deadline, there was an effort to bring the show back for a fourth and final season with a shorter episode count, but it didn’t happen. It’s still possible that Warner Bros. Television could shop the show somewhere else.

The series revolved around “unapologetic optimist judge Abby Stone (Rauch), the daughter of the late Harry Stone, who follows in her father’s footsteps as she presides over the night shift of...

Jesse L. Martin's 'The Irrational' Is the Latest NBC Show To Have Its Fate Decided
Image
The bloodbath at NBC continues with The Irrational next on the chopping block. Per Deadline, the Jesse L. Martin-led crime drama has been cancelled after two seasons on the network following a significant fall-off in ratings from its initial run. After a very strong premiere in Fall 2023 with 12.1 million viewers across all NBC Universal platforms within 15 days and a quick renewal two months later in November, viewers mostly drifted away once the heart of NBC's lineup returned following the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. It now joins Night Court and Lopez vs. Lopez among the list of shows on the bubble that didn't make the cut today.

The Irrational was always going to face an uphill battle, not just because of its dwindling viewership, but because of the harsh realities of being a bubble show at NBC at this moment. Executives have had to make some tough decisions...

‘The Irrational’ Canceled — What Would Have Happened in Season 3
Image
Sadly, The Irrational will not be back for a third season – and after it ended on such a major cliffhanger, too! NBC announced that the series was canceled on Friday, May 9. The series finale aired on March 25, 2025, and it ended with Alec (Jesse L. Martin) realizing that he was being stalked after troubling texts of photos of himself. The only good news? Well, his girlfriend Rose (Karen David), the ex-MI6 agent, had just opened up her own agency in D.C., so he became her first client. Who was following Alec? “That’s the thing we’ll have to get a Season 3 pickup to find out, otherwise no one will ever know,” executive producer Arika Lisanne Mittman told TV Insider after the finale. The point of that cliffhanger was, she explained, “to tease something about, ‘Hey, next season there’s going to be more intriguing mysteries, more to uncover, this...

NBC Reveals The Irrational's Fate Over 1 Month After Major Cliffhanger Ending
Image
In the past few days, NBC has been deciding the fates of all its shows. The network is the home of many long-running fan-favorite shows, as well as some less-famous series with fewer seasons.

As the network bet on its long-running franchises like Law & Order and Chicago Fire, other shows weren't as lucky. One of them was the police drama The Irrational. The series aired its Season 2 finale on March 25, and NBC has just announcedThe Irrational wouldn't come back for Season 3, per Deadline, despite the major cliffhanger ending.

The NBC police procedural, which stars The Flash actor Jesse L. Martin in the leading role as Alec Mercer, didn't wrap up the loose ends in the Season 2 finale. At the end of the season, Alec realized someone was watching him, who sent him photos of himself via a mysterious number.

Despite the open ending, the decision to axe The Irrational is not surprising.

‘The Irrational’ Canceled By NBC After 2 Seasons
Image
Exclusive: NBC has opted not to renew sophomore drama series The Irrational for a third season.

The news is not entirely surprising. After a promising freshman run, the crime drama starring Jesse L. Martin fell off significantly in the ratings during its second season with comparable lead-ins, The Voice on Monday in Season 1 and The Voice on Tuesday in Season 2.

The TV landscape was different in the two seasons though. Launching as strike contingency in fall 2023 amid a dearth of scripted originals on the broadcast networks because of the writers work stoppage, The Irrational took advantage of the lesser competition and a potent lead-in to start off well on NBC as well as Peacock. The series’ premiere tallied 12.1M viewers across all NBCU platforms in its first 15 days. By late November, the series had earned a Season 2 renewal.

Facing a fully stacked playing field in Season 2, The Irrational found it...

Everyone Forgets The Flash Star Who Quit ‘Law & Order’ After 198 Episodes to Return to Broadway
Image
Initially becoming notable for his work on Broadway, especially in the role of Tom Collins in Rent, Jesse L. Martin later garnered recognition for Law & Order. Given his no-nonsense approach to the stint as Detective Ed Green, Martin, who was incorporated in the wake of Benjamin Bratt’s exit from the procedural drama, became a mainstay during his 10-year-long stint.

But despite his success in NYPD’s 27th Precinct, after a years-long commitment to the IP, the actor finally called it quits to go back to his roots.

Although Law & Order did propel Martin’s career to the next level, and The Flash star proved to be an immaculate replacement for Detective Rey Curtis, in season 18, the actor finally opted to call it quits.

Anjelica Huston Was ‘Depressed’ Starring in ‘Smash’: I Didn’t ‘Have a Good Time Making It’
Image
Anjelica Huston doesn’t quite regret starring in fan favorite, albeit short lived, NBC musical series “Smash,” but she is detailing her dismay while making the series. Huston told People while promoting BritBox limited series “Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero” that she didn’t “feel very prized” in her “Smash” role as fictional Broadway producer Eileen Rand.

“I wasn’t very happy when I was on that show,” Huston said. “I was living in New York and I wasn’t very happy living in New York for the obvious reasons. It was a cold winter, and I didn’t feel very prized in that role. I was a bit depressed by it. It was hard really; I didn’t really have a good time making it.”

"We're Building a Friendship": 'The Irrational' Showrunner Breaks Down Alec, Marisa, and Rose's Unique Love Triangle
Image
The Irrational has finally seen Marisa (Maahra Hill) and Rose (Karen David) work together on a case earlier this year. The episode “Lost Souls,” which aired on January 7, saw a recognized tennis player go missing in the woods and, of course, Alec (Jesse L. Martin) is called to help find her and bring her to safety. However, things don’t go so smoothly as a medical emergency comes up, jeopardizing the professor. Because of that, his ex-wife and FBI Agent Marisa (Maahra Hill) and current lover Rose (Karen David) team up to solve the case, with Alec advising from his hospital bed.

There’s clearly no bad blood between the women, despite their shared romantic connection to Alec. Sharing details about the unique anti-love triangle dynamic between the trio, showrunner Arika Lisanne Mittman spoke about the relationships between Alec, Rose, and Marisa during a set visit at which Collider's Samantha Coley was in attendance.

"We Will See A Touch Of Some Queer Love": The Irrational’s Travina Springer Teases Romance Ahead for Kylie in Season 2
Image
While The Irrational centers on fighting crime and understanding behaviors and the human nature that prompts such offenses, there’s also been more than a bit of romance here and there. Alec (Jesse L. Martin), who was already divorced from Marisa (Maahra Hill) as the procedural’s first season began, is still very involved with former Mi-6 agent and corporate fixer Rose (Karen David), which has been explored several times in Season 2.

The Irrational Season 2 also explored Kylie's (Travina Springer) love life in further depth. In Episode 10 of the show’s latest season, “Now You Don’t,” Joyce was introduced as Kylie’s date, whom she didn’t hear from despite having a great time together. This prompted the FBI contractor to take matters into her own hands by tracking her date down to figure out if she was indeed ghosted or if something else happened. Reflecting on Kylie's...

"I Have a Whole Lot of Women in my Life": 'The Irrational’s Jesse L. Martin Breaks Down Alec’s Relationships
Image
Ever since The Irrational debuted Jesse L. Martin’s characterin the very first episode of Season 1, a lot has transpired — both good and bad — between him and the multiple people he has encountered throughout the episodes. Most importantly, Alec eventually found love in corporate fixer Rose Dinshaw (Karen David), but that hasn’t stopped him from working with his ex-wife, Special Agent Marisa Clark (Maahra Hill), which has so far been a smooth relationship. Besides, the professor has other women in his life, including his younger sister, Kylie (Travina Springer), and one of his best students, Phoebe (Molly Kunz), among others, all of whom he highly values.

Shedding more light on these non-romantic relationships during a set visit at which Collider's Samantha Coley was in attendance, Martin emphasized how Alec is mainly influenced by women in The Irrational Season 2, saying:

I still do it every single day of my life,” he said at the time. “But, it doesn’t mean it’s apropos for every single character I play.”
