- Left the production of Are You Being Served? (1972) as he was simultaneously appearing in another hit comedy, Spring & Autumn (1972). When Spring & Autumn began it's third series, Martyn could no longer keep with the schedule of both shows and he had to leave Are You Being Served?.
- A former member of the Parachute Regiment, he continued parachuting as a hobby after leaving the army.
- British comedy actor, a regular on Are You Being Served? (1972). Appeared several times on Dad's Army (1968) and assumed the role of Private Walker for the radio program, following the untimely death of actor James Beck.
- In 1974 he played a hapless pedestrian in a public information film which likened pedestrians to vehicles and warned of their fragility in collisions with cars.
- Father of Debbie Martyn and another daughter.
- Death recorded as "On or About Seventh August 1994" at his home in Kent. An inquest was held on November 9th 1994 where the cause of death was "Unascertainable" and an open verdict was recorded.
