- Was nominated for Broadway's Tony Award four times: three times in 1963 with collaborator Timothy Gray for "High Spirits," as Best Author (Musical), Best Composer and Lyricist, and for lyrics and music as parts of a Best Musical nomination; and then, 26 years later, in 1990, with collaborator Ralph Blane as Best Score (Musical) for "Meet Me in St. Louis."
