Cornell University graduate with a long pedigree in henchmen and sneaks throughout the 1920s and '30s, particularly westerns. His mustache made him look so sinister that the Griffith and Mayer book "The Movies" (1957, Simon & Schuster) used his image as the personification of villainy.
