George Newall, who was an advertising agency creative director in the early 1970s when he helped create what would become one of TV’s most beloved and educational children’s titles with Schoolhouse Rock!, died Nov. 30 at a hospital near his home in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. He was 88.

George Newall, who co-created the celebrated kids’ educational cartoon Schoolhouse Rock for ABC, has died. The New York Times reports that he passed away at 88 years old due to cardiopulmonary arrest, according to his wife, Lisa Maxwell. The series ran from 1973 until 1984 and was known for helping kids learn through song. Generation X grew up on these cartoons every Saturday morning, with songs like “Three Is The Magic Number”, “Conjunction Junction”, and “How A Bill Becomes Law” still remembered today. The series came about when the president of McCaffrey & McCall advertising agency, David McCall, complained to his creative director about the lack of education his kids received in media. He asked if Newall could set the multiplication table to music as his kids had an easier time memorizing song lyrics than learning math. Newall searched for a musician to make it happen, eventually finding Bob Dorough, who quickly wrote “Three Is The Magic Number.

John Bishop, McBusted's Matt Willis and Loose Women star Lisa Maxwell will also take part in Celebrity Survivor, to be filmed and screened in early 2015 on ITV.

The show follows Grylls's previous Wild Weekends series, which saw the adventurer joined by Stephen Fry, Jonathan Ross and Miranda Hart.

Celebrity Survivor will see the stars competing against each other in I'm a Celebrity-style challenges in order to stay in the camp.

The celebrities will set up their own camps and survive the tough conditions until they are voted off each night, reports the Daily Star.

Bear Grylls's most recent series was Channel 4's The Island, which has been renewed for a second run next year.

Denise Welch has hit out at Myleene Klass over comments she made about Loose Women.

Welch - who quit the ITV talk show in October last year following a row with producers over changes to the programme - took to Twitter to say how disappointed she was in Klass, who claimed the show was previously "too ranty and misogynistic" before she joined in January.

Klass had told the Daily Mail: "I love Loose Women. It's nice to be able to articulate and get things out there. But I feel it was getting a bit misogynistic, a bit post-menopausal or pre-menopausal and ranty.

Sometimes, an alien teen has to learn to make his way on Earth. Other times, they have very human problems while still on their home planet. Whether he wants to just fit in or she wants to see the world, alien teens are just like the terrestrial variety. This weekend’s I Am Number Four tries to show us, once again, just how hard it can be to be an alien teen. You have to get good grades in school and run away from a killer trying to track you down. Jason Gardiner’s altercation with Karen Barber seems to have become the topic of the day.

The Dancing On Ice row was discussed in depth on ITV’s This Morning just a few hours ago and now the Loose Women have been sharing their opinions on the upset.

The Australian judge had hit out at head coach Karen Barber, after she questioned his critique of Johnson Beharry’s routine. After she told him he was being unnecessarily harsh about the war hero, Gardiner replied:

‘Karen if your opinion mattered, you’d still be on the panel.’

Former Bill actress Lisa Maxwell and current Loose Women panellist Lisa Maxwell supported Jason saying that people would have been upset no matter what he said about Johnson. She said:

In all honesty, with the comment that he made about her not being on the panel, it was backstage politics and it should have stayed there.

After being dropped from the panel of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Over The Rainbow’, Denise Van Outen will be making her judging return this week on another BBC talent show.

Denise will sit on this week’s celebrity panel of Let’s Dance For Sports Relief and the pregnant star told The Sun:

“I had a great time last year.

“I’m very excited to be back on the panel and I can’t wait to see what’s in store on Saturday’s live show.”

Katy Brand and Rufus Hound have been voted into the final of this year’s Let’s Dance For Sports Relief.

The comedy based show returned to our screens tonight and delivered some hilarious performances from stand up comedians, actors and sports personalities.

We have a full run down of tonight’s show here and there is no doubt that Katy Brand’s routine to Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’ and Rufus Hound’s ‘Fight For This Love’ stole the show for us.

Rufus looked amazing in his full military regalia and as Jason Manford said:

‘If it wasn’t for the beard….I so would!’

Katy looked amazing in her skintight black leotard and proved that she really should wear a bit more slap in future. She looked smoking hot tonight and she pulled off some fabulous moves and butt slapping action.

This week’s final has been thrown into turmoil after Robbie White pulled out due to a dislocated shoulder, Alastair Postlethwaite stepped in and then pulled out also, after deciding that he couldn’t learn six routines in a few days.

So tonight’s show will be a battle between Tommy Franzén, Lizzie Gough and Charlie Bruce. We think Tommy will take the title, though we wouldn’t mind too much if Charlie won instead. The Bill star Lisa Maxwell has admitted that she suffered two miscarriages last year. Speaking on The Paul O'Grady Show, the actress confirmed that the ordeal contributed to her decision to quit playing Di Sam Nixon after seven years on the ITV1 police drama. "I'll be absolutely honest with you, I had two miscarriages - one in January and one in July," Maxwell, 45, explained. "It was a really sad time for me and now I don't mind talking about it. The Bill stars Lisa Maxwell and Patrick Robinson have come out on top in the final heat of Let's Dance For Comic Relief. The actors won places in next weekend's final after impressing the public with a homage to Riverdance on the BBC One reality series.
