Andre Mayers was born in Toronto Canada. He attended York University,
where he achieved his degree in Physical Education and Sociology.
Upon graduating, he followed his lifelong dream, and pursued an
acting career, where he then studied privately in Toronto and New
York with such luminaries as Carol Rosenfeld and David Smuckler.
Then Susan Peretz from the Actors Studio LA.
He quickly became one of Canada's top actors taking the stage for
Tony Award winning plays such as "FENCES" "A SOLDIER'S PLAY"
"THE TALENTED TENTH" and many others. He then took his talents
to the screen, where he achieved a very successful television career
appearing in shows such as NIGHT HEAT, DUE SOUTH,
NIGHTWATCH, and THE PRETENDER, just to name a few. He then
made his big screen debut in the hit comedy "SWITCHING
CHANNELS" as Jesse the news camera man, playing alongside Burt
Reynolds and Kathleen Turner. Andre finally got his breakthrough
show, in the early 90's when he was cast as a series regular playing
opposite Christopher Plummer in the hit USA Network show
"COUNTERSTRIKE" as J.J. the team's multi-talented pilot.
This catapulted his career, and he made the permanent move to Los
Angeles, where he maintained continued success appearing on such
shows as "CHARMED" "THE HANDLER" and "LAW AND ORDER L.A.
But with all his success as an actor Andre knew he also had a strong
urge to Direct and take his talents behind the camera, and that he did.
Studying filmmaking privately in LA along with his 20 years of acting
experience, in the early 2000's he directed his first feature film "THE
PRINCE OF GUILT", a very provocative film, dealing with the very
sensitive topic of rape and being wrongly accused.
The film was accepted and well received at THE REEL WORLD FILM
FESTIVAL in Toronto. He went on to direct several short films, then
the very significant and important project "A WEEK WITH MY FATHER"
came his way, a web series dealing with the serious issue of absentee
fathers in our country and across the globe. The show was entered into
the New York Independent Film and Television Festival, where Andre
won Best Director in a Web series.
Along with his busy schedule, due to his still ongoing love of the
acting craft, he began teaching an ongoing Scene Study Class and private coaching to this day.
In 2022, he was engaged by the producer of a new Faith Based
Feature Film, titled "SIMON SAYS", based on a young actor
moving to LA, then being faced with the very real underbelly of
Hollywood. Andre co-produced, co-directed, and acted in the film. It had it's well received Los Angeles Premier Screening in April 2024.
In the spring of 2023, Andre was approached by Anna Lopes, founder of MILLION DOLLAR SMILES, a well-known Canadian non-profit organization, supporting and uplifting children and families stricken with pediatric cancers and life-threatening illnesses. Due to her intimate relationship with some of the children who passed to soon, she vowed to create a documentary in their honor. Hence, teaming up with Andre to produce and direct the very heartfelt documentary THE GOLDEN RIBBON, which was completed in the fall of 2024.
