Abele, (Vitaliano Trevisan) regista teatrale, ha ricevuto l’incarico da parte del comune di Trieste nell’ambito di una manifestazione nazionale intitolata “Dovere di Memoria”di rappresentare una pièce sulla shoah. Si trova a Roma e in un teatro di periferia inizia le prove con alcuni attori, poi chiama una sua vecchia amica – Clara (Galatea Ranzi)– che aveva girato un video, anni addietro su Tosca Marmor una deportata di Auschwitz (Gòrdana Miletic). Tra i due però cresce una certa competitività fino a sfociare in un netto conflitto sul modo di portare avanti la rappresentazione…A Trieste Clara ne approfitta per dare un volto a una figura del passato.
