Seemingly following in the footsteps of Disney, whose live-action remakes are now more frequent than their animated movies, DreamWorks has decided to give us a live-action remake of one of its most famous series, How to Train Your Dragon. The live-action remake of the first movie is scheduled for a 2025 release, and we have recently received some new footage from the movie.
And while we could debate the purpose of such a live-action remake, it is happening, and there is not much we can do there.
The first visuals look pretty nice if you ask us, and we are sure that the film will retain some of the charm of the original animated series.
But, as you might have assumed, there are also some controversies surrounding the upcoming movie and the biggest one at this point is the casting of Nico Parker, daughter of actress Thandiwe Newton and filmmaker Ol Parker,...

Following yesterday's long-awaited trailer debut, Universal Pictures has released a behind-the-scenes featurette for the live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie (via Toonado.com).

The studio no doubt hopes this movie launches a new franchise and, not coincidentally, 2025 will also see the debut of the Isle of Berk land at the upcoming Epic Universe section of Universal Orlando. We'd imagine there will...

It’s only a minute long but the first How to Train Your Dragon teaser trailer confirms so many elements about the live-action version. Toothless is basically Toothless from the animated films, Hiccup looks like fans expect him to, and even the finger placement as Hiccup touches Toothless for the first time matches the animated original. (A YouTube commenter pointed that out.)
Mason Thames (The Black Phone), Nico Parker (The Last of Us), Nick Frost (Truth Seekers), Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2), and Gabriel Howell (Bodies) star. The cast also includes Bronwyn James (Wicked), Harry Trevaldwyn (Smothered), Ruth Codd (The Midnight Club), Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Murray McArthur (Game of Thrones).
Gerard Butler reprises his role as Chief Stoick the Vast from the animated films for the live-action adaptation.

Following several leaks (both of the camera phone and HD variety), Universal Pictures has finally released the official teaser trailer and poster (via Toonado.com) for this gorgeous new take on the 2010 animated classic.
Neither shows off too much but both sneak peeks make it clear that Toothless will look almost exactly like he did in the previous How to Train Your Dragon movies. Every studio on the planet learned from Paramount's mistake with Sonic the Hedgehog, so this is the right move even if he doesn't look as "realistic" as House of the Dragon's far scarier beasts.

"When you carry this axe, you carry all of us with you." But why hurt the dragons? Universal Pictures has unveiled an official teaser trailer for their live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie, following the Disney trend of turning their animated classics into "live-action" movies that feature tons of animated CGI in them anyway. The original Httyd movie opened in theaters in 2010, and it was such a huge success for DreamWorks Animation they went on to make two more sequels, with the grand finale How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World landing in 2019. The story follows a young Viking boy as he aspires to help hunt dragons, and how he becomes unexpectedly a friend of a young dragon he decides to name Toothless. From the same director as the original three animated movies. Mason Thames (from The Black Phone) stars as Hiccup, Gerard Butler as Stoick, Nico Parker as Astrid,...

The first reactions to Paul King’s Wonka, the prequel to Roald Dahl’s beloved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, are in, with much praise for the film’s star Timothée Chalamet as the enigmatic Willy Wonka.
The origin film follows Chalamet’s Willy Wonka from his beginnings selling candy in a small shop to his rise as an eccentric genius chocolatier and the creation of his fantastical chocolate factory.
“#Wonka/ #WonkaMovie is a winning confection, filled with perfect amounts of charm, whimsy & poignancy, powered by pure imagination & bright, nimble musical numbers,” wrote Courtney Howard. “Timothée Chalamet is a charisma factory. Gizmodo senior reporter Germain Lussier wrote that Chalamet “alone is reason to see the film,” adding “He’s infinitely charming and a blast to watch.” However, he wrote, “The movie around him isn’t as good but it’s enjoyable.

Paul King, director of Wonka, is teasing the film and Timothée Chalamet’s singing voice. The filmmaker compared Chalamet to Bing Crosby.
“[Chalamet]’s got a beautiful singing voice,” King said in an interview with Total Film magazine. “The person it reminded me of was Bing Crosby. There’s quite a range, because it does go from a couple of bigger, showstopper-y sort of things, to moments of real, pure emotion and he can do it all… I’m going to sound like a crazed fan.”
Although the film has musical numbers, King doesn’t want to classify the movie as a musical saying, “The Oompa Loompas sing a lot in the book, and Dahl always uses poetry. But I didn’t want it to just become a musical where people are singing dialogue to each other for no discernible reason. I felt like it was more like a movie with songs than a musical.

“To work on something that will have an uncynical young audience, that was just a big joy. That’s why I was drawn to it,” he told Vogue. “In a time and climate of intense political rhetoric, when there’s so much bad news all the time, this is hopefully going to be a piece of chocolate.”

Eye-patches, a yo-yo, Game Of Thrones and Benny Hill. Here are the geeky bits and pieces we noticed in Doctor Who's The Girl Who Died...
While Ashildr watches the centuries pass waiting until her paths cross with the Doctor again, here’s something she might want to read to the pass the time - it’s the fifth of our geekly, weekly viewing guides to the ninth series of Doctor Who, pulling together all of the references and callbacks, recurring themes and motifs, and tenuous connections that we thought were interesting enough to write about anyway.
As always, if you spot something that we haven’t, please do share it with us in the comments below - so far, you’ve proved that we have some impressively eagle-eyed readers out there! And remember - it’s just a bit of fun...

The Doctor's latest adversary has been unveiled online.
The sinister-looking creature, obscured by gloom but looking like a cross between a Yo Gabba Gabba character and a Sky HD Box, will feature in the upcoming series of Doctor Who later this year.
The BBC tweeted the picture earlier today (April 21), revealing that Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman will come face-to-face with the monster in the ninth series.
Doctor Who will return to BBC One in the autumn, with Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams appearing in one episode.
Comedian Rufus Hound and Siblings' Tom Stourton have also been announced for guest starring roles in series nine, along with Ariyon Bakare, Simon Lipkin, Ian Conningham, Murray McArthur, Barnaby Kay, John Voce and Struan Rodger.

Maisie Williams is to appear in the new series of Doctor Who.
The Game of Thrones actress will guest star in an episode of the sci-fi drama when it returns for its ninth run in the autumn.
Williams, whose role has not yet been revealed, said: "I'm so excited to be working on Doctor Who as it's such a big and important part of British culture.
"I can't wait to meet the cast and crew and start filming, especially as we'll be shooting not too far from my home town."
Showrunner Steven Moffat added: "We're thrilled to have Maisie Williams joining us on Doctor Who. It's not possible to say too much about who or what she's playing, but she is going to challenge the Doctor in very unexpected ways.
"This time he might just be out of his depth, and we know Maisie is going to give him exactly the right sort of hell.
