The A Dangerous Method Trailer has premiered. David Cronenberg‘s A Dangerous Method (2011) movie trailer stars Viggo Mortensen, Michael Fassbender, Keira Knightley, Vincent Cassel, and Sarah Gadon. A Dangerous Method‘s plot synopsis: “Based on Christopher Hampton’s acclaimed 2002 play “The Talking Cure,” the film centers on the relationship between Carl Jung (Fassbender) and Russian-Jewish patient Sabina Spielrein (Knightley), who ultimately causes a rift between Jung and mentor Sigmund Freud (Mortensen) but also catalyses strong findings in regards to Jungian psychoanalysis.”
This looks very good and twisted. David Cronenberg has a great eye and I look forward to seeing how his eye is used in a drama movie. I can’t say I have ever seen Keira Knightley playing such a risky part before. I thought the same thing about Jennifer Connelly in Requiem for a Dream. Both women seem like victims of circumstance but I do not know if...

The last few days have been crazy with trailers. Puss and Boots, Harry Potter, Footloose, The Muppets, 30 Minutes or Less, and many other films we didn't get a chance to focus on here at Tmp. But does the trailer for David Cronenberg's newest film, A Dangerous Method, reign champion over them all?
No, not really. Well I wanted this to be a really good trailer, I was mostly disappointed. It's pretty short, despite being a theatrical trailer. And while the story of Sigmund Freud's relationship with Carl Jung is interesting, I didn't really feel any of the tension between them in this trailer. It mostly focuses on Freud's affair with his patient Sabina Spielrein, which doesn't seem to be the main facet of the story.
If the movie's about Freud and Jung, why not focus on that? While this seems to be an interesting change of pace for director David Cronenberg,...

Aren't you glad you didn't look at the bootleg? Here's a proper-quality trailer for David Cronenberg's new film, A Dangerous Method, which stars Michael Fassbender and Viggo Mortensen as Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud, respectively. Check it out below. (You can also see the trailer at the film's official site [1].) Really, all I need to see here is Michael Fassbender as Jung and I'm sold. But Viggo looks great, as does Vincent Cassel, and some of Keira Knightley's moments help ease any anxiety I had about that casting. (A few other moments make me worry about her accent, but we'll see how that works out when the time comes.) And then with Howard Shore's music and the characteristic Cronenberg title cards working with the lovely cinematography of Peter Suschitzky, there's a lot of Dead Ringers feeling here. (Which is appropriate as that was the first Cronenberg/Suschitzky pairing.

Sony Pictures Classics announced that they have picked up the distribution rights to David Cronenberg's new film, A Dangerous Method. The film is based on a play by Christopher Hampton (Atonement) called The Taking Cure who also wrote the screenplay. The film has an amazing cast of actors that includes Viggo Mortensen as Sigmund Freud, Michael Fassbender as Carl Jung, and Keira Knightley as Sabina Spielrein, a mutual patient. I'm a big fan of the films of Cronenberg, and you can't argue with such a wonderful cast. This is sure to turn out to be a great film.
Here's the story synopsis:
Seduced by the challenge of an impossible case, the driven Dr. Jung (Michael Fassbender) takes the unbalanced yet beautiful Sabina Spielrein (Keira Knightley) as his patient in A Dangerous Method. Jung’s weapon is the method of his master, the renowned Sigmund Freud. Both men fall under Sabina’s spell.

We’ve missed you David Cronenberg. It’s been four years since your last feature and we are getting impatient. Thankfully, you are working hard with two new films and we now know who will be distributing one. We get word today that Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the Us rights for A Dangerous Method, the film based on Christopher Hampton‘s 2002 play The Talking Cure, and starring Viggo Mortensen, Keira Knightley, Michael Fassbender, and Vincent Cassel. There is no word on release, but expect it later this year after its confirmed Venice Film Festival premiere.
As for his next film Cosmopolis, currently shooting in Toronto, expect a release in 2012. That drama stars Robert Pattinson, Sarah Gadon, Samantha Morton, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, Kevin Durand and Sarah Gadon. For now check out the full press release, and a bootleg trailer for A Dangerous Method. I recommend completely avoiding it until the real thing,...

Good news for David Cronenberg fans: his next film, A Dangerous Method, has been picked up for distribution by Sony Pictures Classics. The movie is an adaptation of the play The Talking Cure by Christopher Hampton, and stars Michael Fassbender as Carl Jung, Viggo Mortensen as Sigmund Freud, and Keira Knightley as Sabina Spielrein, the woman who was their mutual patient. We don't have a release date yet, but expect it to hit the fall festival circuit. (Tiff is the likely home, given David Cronenberg's status as a Canadian artistic hero [1], but it could also hit the Venice fest.) Here's some of the Spc press release announcing the pickup: Cronenberg once again gathered a prestigious crew to work on A Dangerous Method, director of photography Peter Suschitsky (A History Of Violence, Eastern Promises), composer Howard Shore (The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, Avatar), editor Ronald Sanders (A History Of Violence,...
