I first discovered After Midnight (1989) during my freshman year of college. There at I Luv Video was this VHS tape that gave me nostalgia for a movie I actually hadn’t seen yet. The woman on the cover, a character played by Jillian McWhirter, was quite literally trapped in time, and the tagline beneath her fiery fate read: “Anything Can Happen in the Dark.” As it turned out, my little case of memory distortion was rather fitting; this movie starts off with someone having a vague recollection, albeit of a terrible event.

Growing up I had passed by After Midnight many times at my local video shop, but it wasn’t until some years later that I gave it a watch. There’s something inherently unsettling about teeth, and the addition of someone prodding at them with sharp instruments is especially invasive. On the other side of that coin, the negative association with dentistry can impact the professionals. Cult filmmaker Brian Yuzna tapped into these fundamental fears with his 1996 direct-to-video film, The Dentist, and its 1998 sequel, The Dentist 2.

In fact, Yuzna knew he could sell the movie based on the title alone, so he solicited writers to pitch him on the concept. It was his old pals Stuart Gordon and Dennis Paoli — for whom Yuzna had produced Re-Animator and From Beyond — that cracked the script. Charles Finch (who went on to executive produce David Cronenberg’s Spider) was later brought in to punch it up.

In December, Silent Night, Deadly Night 3: Better Watch Out, Silent Night, Deadly Night 4: Initiation, and Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker will be getting the Blu-ray treatment as a triple feature in the Vestron Video Collector’s Series. Now Vestron Video has announced that they will be giving the horror film The Dentist and its sequel The Dentist 2 a double feature Blu-ray release the following month, on January 24th!

The Dentist and The Dentist 2 will both be making their Blu-ray debut in The Dentist Collection. The films star Corbin Bernsen (Major League) as dentist Dr. Feinstone, who has everything – including a beautiful wife and a successful career in dentistry. When faced with their first elimination, some of the beauties chose to flirt instead of study. Amber failed to answer any questions in the elimination, so she was sent home. Tonight, the social experiment will continue to evolve.

Tonight's Beauty and the Geek begins immediately after last week's elimination. Tommy hopes that Amber is coming back. Each of the other girls walks into the room, one-by-one, and poor Tommy has a stricken look on his face because Amber is not among them. Not to be deterred, Tommy insists that as soon as the show is over, he's going to continue his budding relationship with Amber because, by golly, he wants to date a supermodel, gosh darnit!

Previously on Beauty and the Geek, nine beauties and nine geeks met for the first time. They found out that they would be competing against each other, and the beauties immediately set about strategizing. Tensions rose between Randi and Amber, and their big, colossal fight sent Jim running to go get some popcorn. In the new elimination room, John E. wasn't quick enough with the buzzer, and he became the first person to be ejected from season 5 of Beauty and the Geek.

Tonight's episode of Beauty and the Geek begins immediately post-elimination. Everyone cheers for the returning geeks. Amber is happy to see Tommy back. She's a little gold-digger in the making—she likes Tom because he's good-looking (and not a real geek, I still maintain) and he'll be rich someday. On Tuesday, I presented you with my preseason ranked list of all the geeks on season 5 of Beauty and the Geek, and today I will do the same for the beauties. Just as it was difficult making judgments on the geeks based on a handful of words and a photo, it's actually even more difficult doing so for the beauties because they all seem so similar on paper. How many different kinds of models can there be, anyway? However, never fear, I have done all the hard work for you and have carefully pored through all the details that have been made public about these beauties in order to rank them.
