In the realm of adaptations of the "Superman" mythos, "Smallville" is certainly up there in terms of its enduring popularity. The series, which starred Tom Welling as Clark Kent, aired for a whopping 10 seasons (amassing more than 200 episodes to its name along the way). It even lasted through two networks as The WB eventually transitioned to The CW. Starring alongside Welling was Michael Rosenbaum as his arch-nemesis Lex Luthor. But Rosenbaum didn't go the distance, with the actor leaving the show after Season 7. Why would an actor leave a successful sci-fi show early? Rosenbaum had his reasons.
In a 2016 interview with Empire, the actor addressed his departure at length. Then head of the network Peter Roth did try to get Rosenbaum to stay for "Smallville" Seasons 8 and 9. As an actor, however, Rosenbaum had other pursuits in mind:

Thanks to breakout roles in the Scream revival, Netflix's Wednesday and last year's Beetlejuice sequel, Jenna Ortega is fast becoming one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood, so it probably won't come as much of a surprise to learn that she's being courted by Marvel Studios.
We have previously heard that Ortega was being eyed for a superhero part, but Daniel Richtman is now reporting that the actress is being considered for a big Marvel Cinematic Universe role.
It's always worth noting that Marvel meets with a lot of talent, but if Ortega has actually entered negotiations for an upcoming project, there's a good chance the trades will get hold of the story before too long.
Even if she is in talks, there's no guarantee that things will work out. Ortega has a busy schedule ahead, with a lead role in Taika Waititi's Klara and the Sun adaptation,...

Smallville‘s Tom Welling has been back in the public eye a few times last year with his new film Mafia Wars, in which he stars with Cam Gidget. The new action film release from Saban Films featured Welling as a man recruited for a dangerous undercover mission to stop a crime syndicate that has been plaguing the streets of Italy with Fentanyl and the head of this mafia wants to control all corners of the drug trade. Mafia Wars was written and directed by Scott Windhauser and hit VOD last October.
Deadline is now reporting that the former Clark Kent actor was arrested early Sunday in Yreka, CA. The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office had confirmed the news. The tabloid news site, TMZ, broke the news. The only details known about the incident are that “Welling was taken into custody by Yreka police in an Arby’s parking lot just after midnight Jan.

Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) doesn’t have time in her schedule to make your eyes bleed — just yet. She’s way too busy visiting her nemesis, Tyler (Hunter Doohan), in the asylum where he’s being held. A brand-new snippet from Season 2 released as part of the Next on Netflix event proves as much: The haunting footage teases the thrilling upcoming episodes that will premiere in 2025.
“This season, Wednesday’s journey is darker and more complex as she navigates family, friends, new mysteries, and old adversaries, propelling her headlong into another year at Nevermore,” showrunners and executive producers Al Gough and Miles Millar tell Tudum.
Although Nevermore Academy’s No. 1 teen detective is the only cast member in the spine-tingling picture, we know she’ll be joined by familiar faces — and exciting new characters — when Wednesday returns. Cast members Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair), Joy Sunday (Bianca Barclay), Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia...

When your favorite TV show ends, you can feel like mourning. Sometimes, though, a show has gone on for so long that there's nothing left for it to do except to end. That was where "Smallville" was in 2011, when it began its 10th and final season on the CW.
"Smallville" followed a young Clark Kent (Tom Welling) during his high school years. Running storylines included Clark's relationship with girl next door Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk) and his friendship with future nemesis, Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum). Along the way, the show included a monster of the week formula where Clark battled people given superpowers from Kryptonite — "Smallville" was very consciously "Superboy" by way of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer."
Season 10 was not announced to be the final season at the time, but the writers approached it as such. (The finale of "Smallville" is literally titled "Finale.") For one, while "Smallville" wasn't failing,...

Brendan Fraser saved the world from mummies twice. How can someone follow up success like that? By saving the world from mummies a third time! When he signed on for another Mummy sequel, he was working with a new director and new writers. Some of his co-stars were recast. Some were absent. But his task remained the same: stop the rampage of a power-hungry walking corpse. That’s what he set out to do in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor… and it’s time to figure out What Happened to This Horror Movie.
Fraser played treasure hunter Rick O’Connell in the 1999 reboot of the Universal Monsters classic The Mummy and its 2001 sequel The Mummy Returns. Both movies were written and directed by Stephen Sommers – but Sommers had no intention of directing a third Mummy film. After making the second one, he was ready to work on smaller projects.

2024 was another good year for Netflix, but not the best year ever. For instance, the streamer had just one movie get a lot of nominations for Golden Globes. We know the streaming giant will do even better in the future.
Thankfully, the Netflix Original series have never been disappointing. Maybe viewers do not love every show (La Palma has gotten some hate), but there are enough that get renewed that we cannot wait to watch a new season. Sometimes, Netflix makes us wait too long, though.
Such is the case with the first show on the list below. Still, even if we say we have lost interest, once the show is released in 2025, everyone knows we will tune back in. In fact, we should watch all of the following six shows.

Was Jenna Ortega’s casting for Wednesday a sure thing? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Creators Al Gough and Miles Millar revealed Netflix had other options, but none fit like Jenna Ortega. In an IndieWire interview, Gough alluded, “Netflix had given us a list of actresses that they liked, and Jenna was definitely on that list.” But as Millar pointed out, the creators were determined to cast the right actress. “We wanted to go through the process of seeing as many people as we could, just so that we were really sure we found the right Wednesday.”
It wasn’t just about finding someone to deliver the lines. For Gough and Millar, the key to Wednesday was precision—a trait that Ortega embodied from the start. “The lead of any show becomes your collaborator in the show; they just do,” Gough said. “There’s a precision to Jenna’s performance, there’s...

Updated with the latest: Wednesday’s sophomore season has officially wrapped production. Before this, the latest update on the sophomore season set at Nevermore Academy involved the guest appearance of a certain Mother Monster.
After the runaway success of Netflix and Tim Burton’s Addams Family stand-alone series Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega, the streamer renewed it for a second season in January 2023. That decision came less than three months after the eight-episode Season 1 premiered. It eventually became the most-watched original series ever on the streamer, with more than 252 million views to date, far surpassing Stranger Things Season 4, Dahmer, and Season 1 of Bridgerton on the all-time list.
Season 1 received 12 Emmy nominations, including for Ortega in Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She became just the third Latina ever to be nominated in a leading actress category. The series won four Emmys, though Ortega lost out to Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson on Emmy night.

Horror fans, rejoice! We have some good news to share about the hit horror series Wednesday. Production on the highly anticipated second season is officially in the can, meaning we're even closer to the show returning to our screens. On top of that, Netflix decided to release a first-look image of the new season featuring Jenna Ortega back as the iconic Wednesday Addams. You can check out the photo above.
In the new image from Wednesday season 2, Wednesday seems to be standing in some sort of cemetery, and as usual, she doesn't seem the happiest if her arms crossed and slight frown means anything. While plot details surrounding the second season are being kept secret, it's obvious that Wednesday is going to find herself in another tricky situation like last season.
In season 1, Wednesday became entangled in a series of supernatural mysteries while attending her parents' old school, Nevermore Academy.

Jenna Ortega is back as the Addams family’s death-loving daughter.
In a new photo from Season 2 of “Wednesday,” Ortega is seen frowning her and crossing her arms against a spooky outdoor backdrop — potentially a cemetery — with a gothic gate and two robed statues carrying lanterns behind her. This is the first photo from the Netflix series’ second season, though the streamer previously released a behind-the-scenes clip. Netflix released the photo just after production on Season 2 wrapped in Ireland. The season is set to premiere in 2025.

Production on Netflix’s Wednesday has recently concluded. And even though fans will have to wait until next year to binge new episodes, a new photo of Jenna Ortega as the titular teen was released below.
While not much is known about the plot for Season 2, star Catherine Zeta-Jones, who plays Morticia Addams, recently teased their sophomore turn will “be bigger and more twisted than you could ever imagine.” Ortega has previously said the new episodes will lean more into horror, unlike the teen romance storyline focus from the show’s freshman season.

There’s a great scene in 1993’s classic time-loop comedy Groundhog Day, where Bill Murray’s character experiences a near-perfect day with Andie MacDowell’s Rita, but messes up right at the end, missing his chance to kiss her. On his next loop, he tries to recreate their perfect day for a second chance and fails miserably because all his efforts feel forced and desperate. That’s pretty much what it feels like to watch Tim Burton’s long-awaited Beetlejuice sequel, which tries extremely hard to remind you why you loved the original 1988 movie, but ends up feeling like an incoherent mess, frantically shouting, “Remember this bit? What about this bit?”
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice joins the characters 36 years after the events of the first movie.

Smallville remains one of the best superhero origin stories of all time, despite never getting past the actual origin story elements. Early in the rise of the superhero genre, Warner Bros. Television took the most famous and powerful superhero of all time back to basics. And thanks to an incredible cast, creative writers, and compelling stories told through the lens of a young adult coming-of-age story, it was a huge hit, paving the way for what would ultimately become The CW's Arrowverse.

As people flocked to the theatres in September for the highly anticipated Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, a sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 supernatural comedy movie, they relived the nostalgia by watching Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder. The sequel has introduced some fresh faces like Jenna Ortega, and Justin Theroux, yet, fans couldn’t help but notice the absence of Jeffrey Jones.

The second season of Netflix's Wednesday has added a new cast member that's sure to bring the show a lot of attention, with Lady Gaga set to join the Addams Family spin-off series in a mysterious role.
Details on Gaga's character have not been released, but Variety believes that her part is more likely to be a cameo than a full-on supporting role.
Gaga's involvement with the series was foreshadowed shortly after the first season, when a meme featuring Jenna Ortega's Wednesday Addams dancing to a sped-up version of 2011's Bloody Mary went viral.
Ortega would later state that she would love Gaga to be a part of the show while being interviewed at the 2023 Golden Globes.
"I'm sure Netflix would love that. I think Mrs. Thornhill and Wednesday had this weird mentor relationship or kind of understood each other in a certain way, so, if Lady Gaga were to be a part,...

Joker 2 star Lady Gaga has reportedly joined the already-impressive cast actors confirmed for Netflix show’s second season of Wednesday.
The second season of Wednesday is on the way, and several talented new faces have already been added to the show’s roster to ensure that it builds on the success of its predecessor. We’ve already learned that Thandiwe Newton and Billie Piper will be joining the action, but according to Entertainment Weekly, Lady Gaga is now set to join the Wednesday ensemble too.
No details are forthcoming about the actor’s role, so we’re hoping this isn’t a blown-up story over a fleeting cameo. Given that Gaga has put in an award-winning turn on TV’s American Horror Story, not to mention starring in A Star Is Born and this year’s Joker: Folie à Deux, we’re hoping the creatives behind the show have signed...

It’s been more than three years since Tom Welling first revealed that he and Michael Rosenbaum were working on a potential animated follow-up to Smallville. Fans were excited by the idea, but unfortunately, the project seems to be stalled as it’s waiting on a very crucial approval from Warner Bros.
“The honest answer is we have not been able to get Warner Bros. to give us the thumbs-up. We need their permission,” Welling told TVLine. “We haven’t even gotten a response!” The actor admitted that the Smallville animated series is “more of a fan-driven idea” that likely wouldn’t be a “financial windfall” for the studio. “We all like each other, we all like working together, and if we could do it, it’d be fun,” he said. “But Warner Bros. — and I’m not hating on them — they just haven’t gotten back to us. Tom Welling was the actor who tackled the most comprehensive Clark Kent origin story in Smallville, but 13 years after the sho finished, the actor is finally ready to don the cape, and the Dcu could have the perfect way to cast Welling as Superman. Smallville is inarguably the most in-depth Superman origin story, exploring the life of a young Clark Kent as he progressed through school, on to a career, and everything that came with it. The show explored his evolving relationship with the Luthors, and the tragic loss of his dear father, Johnathan Kent.
It also saw Clark fall in love for the first time, with the enchantingly beautiful and kind-hearted Lana Lang. And when that relationship broke down, it followed Clark's heartbreak until he finally connected with the equally gorgeous and determined Lois Lane. As many are waiting to learn more about the Smallville animated sequel series, long-time DC actor Tom Welling clarifies what is going on with the potential revival. While the Smallville ending took place more than 13 years ago, the beloved Clark Kent-focused drama could be making a comeback as Welling and his co-star Michael Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor, have been developing a pitch for an animated continuation. Even though this has raised excitement in the fandom, the Smallville sequel has not been formally greenlit, and it appears the massive hold-up goes back to one of Hollywood's biggest studios.

Lydia Deetzs career in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice follows her fame as the host of the fictional paranormal talk show Ghost House, which is a meta nod to a big change that Tim Burton made to the 1988 original movie. The returning characters in Beetlejuice 2 humorously fulfill the trajectories set out by the end of the original film, with Delia becoming a famous artist, Charles still being an avid bird watcher (though the hobby indirectly kills him), Betelgeuse taking over clerical work in the afterlife, and Lydia rising to fame by turning her ghost-seeing gift into a TV show.
While Lydia films her final episode in Beetlejuice 2s ending, Ghost Houses conclusion is seemingly a meta nod to Burtons own career trajectory. Burton has frequently noted his personal connection to Lydias character, and explained her story as addressing the idea that people sometimes lose themselves and sell out as they grow older.

Thanks to breakout roles in the Scream revival, Netflix's Wednesday and this year's Beetlejuice sequel, Jenna Ortega is fast becoming one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood, so it probably won't come as much of a surprise to learn that she's being courted by Marvel Studios.
According to scooper Mttsh, Ortega is now in talks for an undisclosed Marvel Cinematic Universe role.
It's always worth noting that Marvel meets with a lot of talent, but if Ortega has actually entered negotiations for an upcoming project, there's a good chance the trades will get hold of the story before too long.
Even if she is in talks, there's no guarantee that things will work out. Ortega has a busy schedule ahead, with a lead role in Taika Waititi's Klara and the Sun adaptation, and an untitled Trey Edward Shults film that will co-star The Weeknd and Barry Keoghan.

Recently, Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum have been working on bringing back their hit series, Smallville. The show would reunite Welling's Clark Kent with Rosenbaum's Lex Luthor for more superhero hijinks. At this time, DC Studios has not greenlit the project, but Welling and Rosenbaum have revealed a few key details about the potential Smallville continuation.
Firstly, it will be animated, likely because of the gap in time since Smallville ended in 2011. The original series creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are on board to write the sequel. Additionally, an artist is attached to the project, per Welling. While the actors' pitch has taken form, it is just that: a pitch. Despite not having the official okay from DC and Warner Bros, the Smallville reboot has fans as well as former cast and crew excited.
Since talks of a Smallville sequel have swelled, the biggest question has been who out of the cast will return.

The world may have first fallen in love with Jenna Ortega in the Netflix series, Wednesday. However, the actress has come a long way since then. With her starring in a Sabrina Carpenter song and even in the recent revival of Beetlejuice, the 22-year-old has cemented herself as one of Hollywood’s favorites. Although fans of Tim Burton expected the latest film to be horrific, there was one creepy scene that no one saw coming.

The scene might have set the stage for a potential third part of the franchise. However, it also left a lot of questions circling in the minds of fans. After all, the Ortega scene has even been dubbed one of the most disturbing moments in the whole film.

With a lot of the same talent both in front of and behind the camera, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was always bound to be similar to Wednesday but it has a few specific references to the hit Netflix show. Released 36 years after the original film, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was Tim Burtons follow-up project to Wednesday season 1, which saw his long-awaited return to the macabre (and led to his biggest success in years). Burton tapped Wednesday showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar to write the sequels script and cast Wednesday Addams herself, Jenna Ortega, to play Lydia Deetzs rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid.
Bringing in Ortega and the writers behind Wednesday was a smart move, because it ensured that Beetlejuice 2 not only brought in nostalgic fans of the first film, but also brought in Wednesdays massive fan base. Part of Beetlejuice Beetlejuices blockbuster box office success can be attributed to the Wednesday walk-ups, because...

Superman is one of the most popular characters in the entire DC Universe, and the popular comic book "The Death of Superman" has served as inspiration for several projects throughout the years. In animation, live-action, and even video games, the story of Superman's death has been a popular point of adaptation, featuring Doomsday or even bigger villains. While some series have adapted details loosely, including in the Justice League cartoon, where Superman did not actually die but was sent to the future, others have been much more faithful to the source material.
Superman's darkest story has been made even heavier with the recent episodes of Superman and Lois. Following a clash with Doomsday, the show has focussed on the trauma of how this has affected others, and this follows a long line of adaptations that have done the same. Seeing this iconic storyline being adapted for a new series has...

Although there have been several retellings of Superman’s story over the years, Smallville has a very special place in the hearts of the fans. The series ran for ten seasons and starred the beloved Tom Welling, gaining a following of its own and managing to become iconic despite the flashy lights of DC’s cinematic universe. Not only was the series critically acclaimed, but it also stood out in its own way in front of the rest of the Superman projects.

With this in mind, it is not surprising that fans wanted more from the cast after the show aired its final season in 2017. Thankfully, it would seem that Welling himself, along with Michael Rosenbaum, are actively trying to get a spinoff for the series made.
