“Canary Black” is a movie starring Kate Beckinsale with Rupert Friend, Ben Miles, and Ray Stevenson. It is directed by Pierre Morel.
Kate Beckinsale returns to her favored genre, the action thriller, playing her specialty role as a lone heroine. Audiences are well-acquainted with her performances in similar roles, and in this film, which feels like a reiteration of many others, she delivers precisely what viewers anticipate: action-packed sequences, high-speed chases, and an internationally intriguing yet entirely formulaic espionage narrative. The film adheres strictly to the conventions of the genre, meeting all expectations except for one: the element of surprise.
Plot Summary
CIA agent Avery Graves faces a dire predicament: her husband has been kidnapped, and his captors demand a file named “Canary Black” for his release. Branded a target by her own agency, the CIA, she must operate solo to clear her name from allegations of treason while also striving to rescue her husband.

Apart from walking through several action set pieces and a thrilling drama, Canary Black also features memorable character beats driven by the compelling performances of its cast members. Directed by Pierre Morel, Canary Black is another addition to Amazon Prime Video's roster of action movies. Although its title might suggest it has something to do with DC Comics' Black Canary, the film follows an original story that focuses on a CIA agent on the run.
Canary Black's filming primarily took place in Zagreb, Croatia, and even the scenes that portray Tokyo in the movie's storyline were shot in the Croatian city of Rovinj. When it comes to the movie's cast, it features both familiar and new faces as its leads. Since many viewers may be curious about who plays whom in Canary Black's story after watching it on Prime Video, it is worth breaking down the key characters and the talented actors behind them.

"When I move, the world moves forward." Apple has announced that a brand new official "Director's Cut" version of Ridley Scott's Napoleon is now available to watch on Apple TV+. Anyone planing to dive in? The original theatrical cut of Napoleon opened in theaters last year, right before Thanksgiving in November, playing in theaters worldwide before it ended up streaming. It earned mostly negative reviews and a lower-than-expected box office because it wasn't that great. Napoleon is an original & personal look at Napoleon Bonaparte's origins. Along with his swift and ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine. As she says: "You want to be great. But you are nothing without me." Joaquin Phoenix stars as Bonaparte, with Vanessa Kirby as Josephine, plus Ludivine Sagnier, Ben Miles, Tahar Rahim, Catherine Walker, Youssef Kerkour, Paul Rhys,...

“Napoleon” is back on the march.
Ridley Scott’s historical epic from last year, which starred Joaquin Phoenix as the arrogant military-leader-turned-emperor Napoleon, is getting the director’s cut treatment, with 48 minutes of new footage being added to the runtime. It’s available now on Apple TV+. Watch a new trailer below.
What’s interesting is that, when “Napoleon” was released last fall, Scott claimed that there was a superior four-and-a-half hour version, that would eventually see the light of day. The version arriving on Apple TV+ today is a little shy of three-and-a-half hours. Did he get more judicious during the assembly of this new version? Did Apple blanch at paying for more visual effects and score in service of a movie that didn’t move the needle much? While it’s unclear now, Scott is about to embark on the press tour for “Gladiator II” (out this Thanksgiving...

A Napoleon director's cut is now streaming, but it's not the four-hour cut director Ridley Scott previously teased. Based on the life of French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, Scott's historical epic hit theaters last year with Joaquin Phoenix in the title role. Before the film even released, Scott teased that he had a four-hour director's cut of the project, which would expand on key aspects of the figure's life.
Apple TV+ now releases Napoleon: The Director's Cut, with 48 minutes of extra footage included. This will bring the director's cut's runtime to a whopping three hours and 24 minutes. As for what's included in the extra footage, viewers can expect another battle, an assassination attempt, and lots more of the relationship between Napoleon and Josephine (Vanessa Kirby).

Ridley Scott’s director’s cut of his 2023 historical epic Napoleon has landed on Apple TV+.
Apple Original Films has released a new version with 48 minutes of never-before-seen footage from the Oscar-nominated tentpole. Napoleon: The Director’s Cut stars Joaquin Phoenix as the French emperor and dives deeper into the origins and ascent of the military leader through the prism of his often volatile relationship with his wife, Josephine, played by Vanessa Kirby.
The director’s cut also focuses on Josephine’s own origin story with what Apple promises are more extravagant costumes, new larger-than-life sets and the previously unreleased Battle of Marengo scene. The original Napoleon film, with a screenplay by David Scarpa, spanned three decades of European history as the military commander triumphed in the Revolutionary Wars and rose to become Emperor of France in 1804, only to end his life in exile.

Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin Clicquot ascends from demure young lover to patriarchy-defying innovator in this attractive but not quite grand cru biopic
The French will be aghast: with climate change, the English are already encroaching on the sparkling wine trade, and now they’ve got the cheek to make biopics about the wine-makers too. Inadvertently or not, this Joe Wright-produced period drama functions as decorous product placement for champagne house Veuve Clicquot. Portraying Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin Clicquot (Haley Bennett) in her climb from demure young lover to patriarchy-defying innovator who finally rejects remarriage as a means of securing legal autonomy, it owes a debt to Shekhar Kapur’s 1998 film Elizabeth.
It’s 1805, and 27-year-old Barbe-Nicole is under the cosh after her husband François (Tom Sturridge), a genius vintner but an unstable soul, kills himself. Her father-in-law Philippe (Ben Miles) doesn’t think she can run the estate, and her neighbours – including the...

In “Widow Clicquot,” Haley Bennett stars as Barbe-Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin, who was only 27 years old when she took over her husband’s (Tom Sturridge) vineyard after his untimely death in the late 1700s. She went on to become known as the Grande Dame of Champagne for her bubbly innovations, including creating the first vintage champagne in 1810.

Amid the glut of corporate biopics we’ve had on our screens of late — “Air,” “BlackBerry,” “Flamin’ Hot” and so on — one for leading French champagne house Veuve Clicquot is more appealing than most. Champagne itself is sexier than a running shoe or a smartphone, for one thing, while the sinuous vineyards of 19th-century Reims are a more seductive setting for a brand-building story than a squat office block in Beaverton. “Widow Clicquot” certainly makes a virtue of its milieu and rolling landscape, richly shot throughout in dusky earth tones, and more substantively, of the rather romantic lore surrounding the widow in question.
Aged just 27 when her husband died, leaving her his ailing winery, Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin Clicquot resisted buyout offers from male competitors, instead transforming it into a thriving international champagne business — the first of its kind to be run by a woman. Warning: for Itvx Streamers – contains “Douglas Is Cancelled” finale spoilers
For the first two of its four episodes, ITV’s Douglas is Cancelled, written by Steven Moffat, is a satirical comedy with lawn sprinkler-like aim. Everything, from establishment hypocrisy to teenage puritanism to tabloid unscrupulousness, gets a bit wet. In this form, the show is fine; it’s funny and knowing, while at times also inexplicably vicious towards benign targets – a bit like Private Eye.
Unlike Private Eye though, there’s no sense that useful investigative work is also being done. The conclusions feel foregone, as if they were vacuum-sealed well in advance of the series existing: young people and their principles are ridiculous; the media old guard are cynical, unhappy drunks; modern TV comedy writers aren’t funny; and men should, broadly, be ashamed of themselves…
That last conclusion is Douglas Is Cancelled’s major contribution to its real subject: #MeToo politics.

Sam Mendes is bringing back his acclaimed, Tony Award-winning blockbuster production of The Lehman Trilogy for a fourth run in London.
It’s quite a thing to bring the play, considered a modern classic, back into central London when it just played a 16-week season at the Gillian Lynne Theatre, running until May of last year.
“There’s an enormous appetite for the play, even more so because its been on screen in cinemas via Nt Live,” noted Caro Newling who runs the theater division of All3Media-owned Neal Street Productions, founded by Newling, Mendes, and Pippa Harris.
The new production, produced by the National Theatre and Neal Street, will return to that same Gillian Lynne stage for a limited 14-week slot from September 24 through January 5, 2025. It will be featuring the incredible rotating glass-box scenic design created by Es Devlin, dynamic videos designed by Luke Halls, and stunning lighting design by Jon Clark.

"Human beings are compelled to create..." Vertical has unveiled an official trailer for the film titled Widow Clicquot, a US project even though it's about a French woman and the art of making champagne in France. This initially premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival last year, and it also played at the 2024 Sonoma Film Festival earlier this year, because of course a wine movie played there. The film tells the story behind the Veuve Clicquot champagne family and business that began in the late 18th century, focusing on Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, known as the "Grande Dame of Champagne." Haley Bennett stars as Barbe-Nicole, who married into a winemaking family and became Madame Clicquot and took over the fledgling business when she became a widow at age 27. Under her (controversial) ownership, and her skill with wine, the company developed early champagne using a novel technique called riddling. The film focuses on her...

Steven Moffat has penned cancel culture comedy drama Douglas Is Cancelled. Here’s the trailer for the new programme.
Before Steven Moffat became known for writing some of the greatest episodes of Doctor Who, like The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, The Girl In The Fireplace, Blink, Silence In The Library/Forest Of The Dead and then showrunning the Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi eras, he was a prolific comedy writer.
His first series, Press Gang, was a huge success and he followed it up by drawing on his own divorce for the fantastic, farcical Joking Apart. Though school sitcom Chalk was a misfire, his greatest sitcom success was Coupling, a tightly plotted ensemble sitcom that included one episode with half the dialogue in Hebrew and another in split screen, with several plots taking place simultaneously.

During a history-celebrating festival in the United Kingdom, Scottish actor Brian Cox lost his temper and attacked actors, theater critics, and politicians. Napoleon (2023), helmed by Ridley Scott, was the first flick he targeted. The yearly gathering discusses historical events with academics, educators, and prominent people.
Cox first took issue with Joaquin Phoenix’s depiction of French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in Scott’s $221 million historical epic. The actor, who played Logan Roy on Succession for four seasons between 2018 and 2023, spoke candidly about his thoughts on Phoenix’s performance at HistFest, calling it “terrible”. Reacting quickly to Cox’s remarks, fans questioned why a great actor would ‘hate’ another great actor.

Steven Moffat began working on his new limited series “Douglas Is Cancelled” in 2018, before most people — Moffat included — had even heard of the term “cancel culture.”
It was only later he realized his story — about a distinguished news anchor whose life is turned upside down when an unguarded comment goes viral — exemplified it.
“At the time I wrote this, I wouldn’t have known the expression,” the screenwriter, best known for his work on fan favorites “Sherlock” and “Doctor Who,” tells Variety. “Obviously, [once I did] I co-opted it straight into the title.”
The show follows the misadventures of Douglas Bellowes, played by Hugh Bonneville of “Paddington” and “Downton Abbey” fame. After a rare verbal misstep at a wedding spirals out of control, he finds himself scrambling to salvage both his personal and professional lives. Karen Gillan (“Guardians of the Galaxy”) also stars as Douglas’ ambitious and internet-savvy co-host Madeline.
