Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy is finally addressing the decision to fire directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller late into production on “Solo: A Star Wars Story”. “I think these guys [Lord and Miller] are hilarious, but they come from a background of animation and sketch comedy,” Kennedy told Entertainment Weekly. No matter how Solo: A Star Wars Story eventually turns out, there’ll always be the nagging question of what it could have been.
After all, with weeks to go before production was scheduled to conclude, directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were abruptly fired and replaced with Ron Howard, who’s about as safe a choice of a director as you can get. Given that Lord and Miller have achieved success after success with a very distinctive comedic style, it was natural to wonder just what the hell was going through Disney and Lucasfilm’s heads. After all, they must have known what they were getting into when they hired them, right? Well, apparently not, as Kathleen Kennedy revealed in an interview earlier this week
What she didn’t reveal, though, and what we still don’t know, is just how much of Solo Howard actually helmed. In fact,...

Now that the “Solo: A Star Wars Story” trailer has been released and the movie is officially heading towards its May release date, director Ron Howard and producer Kathleen Kennedy are willing to speak just a little bit about the notorious behind-the-scenes drama. Lucasfilm fired directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller last June, four months into the movie’s production, and Ron Howard was quickly brought in to finish the film.
At the time, Lucasfilm cited “creative differences” for why it had to let Lord and Miller go. Rumors began swirling that the two’s directing style clashed with Kennedy’s tastes, and apparently the studio was unhappy with Alden Ehrenreich in the lead role. With the movie compeleted and ready for release, Kennedy is open to clearing up the air about what really went down.
The producer confirms to Entertainment Weekly that Lord and Miller were going off script and encouraging improvisation.

It’s the story about “Solo: A Star Wars Story” that everyone has been waiting to hear: what really happened that led to the film’s original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller leaving the movie? Perhaps even more crucially, how much of the material they shot is left in the movie versus the footage that Ron Howard came in and film? Both questions have hazy answers, and for the latter, we’re not going to know where Lord and Miller’s work ends and Howard’s begins.

There has been a lot of concern from Star Wars fans regarding any other actor playing Han Solo other than the man who first did it, Harrison Ford. Now we have learned that Mr. Ford served as a technical advisor on Solo: A Star Wars Story. Reports suggest Ford met with and offered advice on Solo to Alden Ehrenreich. There was a tweet early last year showing a poorly taken photo of Ford and Ehrenreich having lunch.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is a film that really belongs to Han and Chewie.
It’s an origin story, of course, meaning Lucasfilm is about to shed light on the incredible journey that led Han Solo to the Millennium Falcon and his future co-pilot, Chewbacca, the walking carpet whose short temper is matched only by his big heart.
But there’s another blossoming friendship set to feature in Solo, and that’s the one between Alden Ehrenreich’s titular smuggler and Lando Calrissian, card shark extraordinaire. Indeed, the Han/Lando dynamic came up in conversation when Ehrenreich spoke to Entertainment Weekly, where he noted the following:
That’s very hard to answer without giving things away, but I will say that their relationship is many different things. As it is when you see them in the originals. I think they have very different styles.

As you surely know, there’s quite a lot going on with the Spider-Man property right now. Of course, Peter Parker himself is swinging around the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his next appearance set to be in Avengers: Infinity War. Beyond that, though, we’ve also got some stuff coming down the pipeline from Sony. Namely, Venom and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
From what we understand though, there’s not set to be any kind of connection between the two. After all, the latter is animated while the former is live-action. Not to mention that Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who are working on Into the Spider-Verse, have already confirmed that it’ll be its own thing.
So, it was pretty surprising then to learn the other day that not only would Venom be showing up in the pic, but that Tom Hardy would be voicing him. Admittedly, it was an unsubstantiated rumor,...

Stepping into the shoes of Han Solo is no easy task, just ask Alden Ehrenreich. The 28-year-old actor best known for roles in Ya romance “Beautiful Creatures” and the Coen Brothers’ “Hail, Caesar!” is about to break into the blockbuster spotlight this May with the release of “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” Ehrenreich plays a younger, more idealistic Han Solo in the prequel adventure, and he made sure to get Harrison Ford’s blessing before filming started.
Ford and Ehrenreich got lunch before production on “Solo” kicked off, and it’s during this essential meeting where Ford gave his advice for play “Solo.” Ehrenreich told Entertainment Weekly that Ford was a “real gentleman” during their sit-down chat.

Just as Donald Glover met with the great Billy Dee Williams before taking on the role of Lando, Han Solo-to-be Alden Ehrenreich sought the advice of Harrison Ford shortly before production began on Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Ford, who has played Lucasfilm’s prince of thieves on four separate occasions, isn’t one to dwell on the past, nor has he been very forthcoming about his Star Wars career. Still, when the call came, the original Han Solo did impart a kernel of wisdom to Ehrenreich: “Tell them I told you everything you needed to know, and that you can’t tell anyone.”
Proving there is honor among thieves, the Solo actor kept his promise while chatting to Entertainment Weekly, merely hinting that he’s “gotta stick to my orders from the man himself.”

Hey Hollywood, can we please stop calling every blockbuster a “heist movie”? Disney has been particularly good at trotting out that genre card, with “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” and “Ant-Man” all described as such along the way. And guess what? “Solo: A Star Wars Story” is a heist movie too.
As per usual, EW is trotting out the first official new images from ‘Solo,’ and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy describes the picture as “a heist, gunslinger type movie.” It falls in line with what she said about in 2016 about the spinoff, when she teased it would have a “heist or Western type feel.” But there seems to be a bit of an identity crisis about ‘Solo,’ because the same EW piece also describes the spinoff as “a Western crossed with a film noir, freighted with offbeat humor and set in the criminal underbelly of a galaxy being torn apart.

Chicago – Before the days of 24/7 internet access to every form of entertainment that exists, there were eras of radical performance expression that changed the landscape of attitudes toward everything – think of The Beatles evolving music and also changing social culture. The roots of another evolution, especially in comedy, began with a modest humor magazine that brought together the right mix of anarchists and misfits. What they did would influence comedy for years afterward, and their story is told in “Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead: The Story of National Lampoon,” directed by Douglas Tirola.
“National Lampoon” Magazine was a national publication founded in 1970, that was spawned from the Harvard Lampoon, and brought together a team of 1960s-influenced comic radicals that changed the way humor was conveyed. No sacred cows existed on their pages, and the magazine also broke out into signature comedy records, stage performances and radio shows. This cottage industry featured...

Attention comedy geeks everywhere! To paraphrase a literary classic, this new documentary feature lets us all “look back in laughter” at one of the most influential humor magazines of the last fifty years. Actually its legacy reaches on past its newstand existence. Yes, it’s been absent from newsstands (there’s still a few of them left) for nearly twenty years. But, to paraphrase again, we’ve come “not to bury this magazine, but to praise it”. And to recall the chuckles and the mini-empire it spawned. Of course, this wasn’t the first humor publication. Puck paved the way decades before. Then Mad magazine shook up the staid 1950’s. But by 1970, that mag had somewhat settled into a (still entertaining) routine, poking fun at suburbia, and wasn’t connecting with the “counter-culture”. Younger “baby boomers” wanted their humor to have a sharper edge, to reflect the “hippie” spirit, and...

The Writers Guild of America, West has chosen late screenwriter-director-actor-producer Harold Ramis to receive its Laurel Award for Screenwriting Achievement, awarded to a Writers Guild member who has advanced the literature of motion pictures and made outstanding contributions to the profession of the screenwriter. Erica Mann Ramis and family will accept the award on Ramis’ behalf at the Writers Guild Awards ceremony on Saturday, February 14. Harold Ramis passed away on February 24, 2014 at the age of 69. From today’s announcement:
“Harold Ramis changed the face of comedy. His death last year deprived us of his unique way of seeing the world, at once hilarious and wise. From his early work with National Lampoon and Sctv through Animal House, Meatballs, Caddyshack, and Ghostbusters, Ramis’ voice was strong, clear, outrageous in all the best ways. His unrealized projects – an adaptation of Confederacy of Dunces, a biopic about Emma Goldman – leave us aching with...

A glob of stray semen is slathered on as impromptu hair gel. A high school flutist describes all the graphic details of her "one time at band camp." A slobbering frat boy climbs a ladder for a close look at disrobing co-eds — a glimpse so revelatory that he plummets backward without batting an eye. Raunch-comedy history is littered with off-color climaxes, and the genre hasn't blown its load quite yet.

New Orleans, La. It's nearly noon on the set of "22 Jump Street" and the star of the scene is laying flattened on the turf at Tad Gormley Stadium just outside of New Orleans, immobile. Dozens of extras, clad in football uniforms, look away. A man in a Saints shirt hovers above the featured player, taking in the decapitation and the splattered insides with growing frustration. "Is there any way of making it so that it doesn't fall apart?" he laments. The man is a second [or possibly third] unit cinematographer and he's currently facing the difficult challenge of a thespian who clearly isn't ready for his close-up, in this case a roast beef sandwich that refuses to catch the light in the right way. Maybe it's the glare off the lettuce or maybe it's the lifeless meat, but effort is being put into capturing the fumbled sandwich just right. There's a stunt sandwich off to the side,...

Harold Ramis has passed away at the age of 69.
Tributes have poured in for the veteran writer-director and actor, whose credits spanned from early '80s classics Caddyshack and Stripes to recent comedies including Knocked Up and Year One.

Ramis's first feature writing credit turned out to be on one of the most influential (and profitable) comedies of all time. Harold Ramis, comedy legend behind 'Caddyshack,' 'Ghostbusters,' and 'Groundhog Day,' dies at age 69
With his sly, Cheshire cat grin and twinkling, half-mast eyes hidden behind owlish glasses, Harold Ramis always gave the impression of a guy who was guarding the punchline to the world’s funniest joke. And it’s quite possible he was. After all, if anyone had the merry-prankster genius to conceive it, polish it into a jeweler-precise gem, and deliver it with crack comic timing, it was Ramis, who passed away early Monday morning at age 69 from complications of autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis, a rare disease that involves the swelling of blood vessels.

If you like screen comedy—the raucous and raunchy kind, with lots of four-letter words and flipped birds to authority—then you owe Harold Ramis a huge debt. The Chicago native, who died Monday in his Chicago home at age 69 from complications due to autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis, met many of his future collaborators (John Belushi, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner) at Second City’s legendary improvisational theater; he later wrote and acted alongside them in New York when National Lampoon launched its radio hour program. Comic actor, writer, and director Harold Ramis passed away early this morning from autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis, a rare blood vessel disease. Ramis was born in 1944, the son of Chicago grocery store owners. After attending Washington University in St. Louis (his time in a fraternity there partly inspired Animal House) and working briefly in a mental institution, Ramis moved back to Chicago and began taking classes at Second City. It was there that he met frequent collaborators Bill Murray and John Belushi. Ramis’s first break came in 1974, when Belushi brought him to work on The National Lampoon Radio Hour. Working there, Ramis met Doug Kenney and Chris Miller, his co-writers on National Lampoon’s Animal House, the film that put Ramis on track to becoming one of the biggest comic forces of a generation. Ramis's filmography includes classics Meatballs, Caddyshack, Stripes, Ghostbusters, and Groundhog Day. His last picture was 2009’s Year One.

Chicago – A good comedy film lives and breathes through the right casting of character roles. In the new film “21 Jump Street,” Ice Cube is the angry police captain who guides his undercover recruits Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as they infiltrate high school. SXSW Adds '21 Jump Street,' 'Do-Deca-Pentathalon,' 'Killer Joe,' 'Casa De Mi Padre' & More To Lineup
Don't unpack that bag from Sundance too fast. SXSW in Austin, Texas is just around the corner and it has two things over Park City: spring heat and BBQ. The fact that three very hot movie trailers debuted today and others are expected later this week is just a sign of how great 2012 will be. So its time to laugh a little. Columbia Pictures has just revealed the second trailer for 21 Jump Street. The new trailer looks and feels like the first trailer we saw earlier, with very little new footage. Which means, I remain hesitant about the movie itself and wonder why such a trailer was released. Oddly enough the jokes work the second time around.
Watch the the second trailer for Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s 21 Jump Street via Digital Spy.
As aforementioned, a lot of the same jokes from the first 21 Jump Street trailer appear in this one, but they hit their target. In the film Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill play as bumbling cops who are assigned undercover duty and investigate a drug ring at a local high school.

[1] Though it's being touted as a remake of the '80s TV series starring Johnny Depp, anyone with even a passing familiarity with the source material will recognize that Phil Lord and Chris Miller's upcoming action-comedy 21 Jump Street has little in common with its predecessor. No, the real draw of the action-comedy so far looks to be in the surprisingly lively chemistry between leads Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum -- and accordingly, two new bits of marketing from Columbia highlight just that. After the jump, check out a new trailer in which the pair team up to break all the rules spelled out by their supervising officer (Ice Cube) and a poster that shows off the two guys making the cutest prom couple ever. The new trailer recycles most of the same jokes we've already seen in the two previously [2] released [3] trailers, but it's got just enough new material to be worth checking out.

Let.s face it, a 21 Jump Street movie has never exactly sounded like a good idea. It.s been over 20 years since the show last aired. Johnny Depp is now one of the biggest movie stars in the world, and Richard Grieco is.well, I.m sure he.s around somewhere. Much of the age group a new 21 Jump Street movie would try to target has probably never seen a single episode. But if we have to have one, the approach taken by directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller is probably best. Namely: don.t take it at all seriously. That tongue-in-cheek tone is still on full display in the latest trailer for the flick. Jonah Hill dresses like Eminem and fails to slide over the hood of a car. Channing Tatum gets hit on by a high school teacher and suggests that perps have the right to be attorneys.

Sony Animation artists Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn have been set to direct "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2" reports Variety.
The project is still very much in development but the story will continue the adventures of inventor Flint Lockwood. John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are penning the script while Kirk Bodyfelt will produce.
Pearn served as head of story while Cameron was a story artist on the first film, Cameron also directed the direct-to-dvd release "Open Season 3". Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who helmed the original 2009 film, are serving as executive producers.

That's how it works out in "21 Jump Street," anyway. The hit crime show from the '80s is headed for a big-screen reboot next spring with Hill and Tatum starring as two cops recruited to go undercover in a high school.

Less than a week after the announcement that MGM would be adapting Where’s Waldo?, Variety informs us of Warner Bros. greenlighting a Lego movie for a 2014 release. Yes, Lego — those toys you played with at a young age, only before learning that there were far more entertaining options available. Indicative of its eventual adaptation, no?
This story (initially) felt like a new development to me, but it turns out this has been in some stage for a little while, as Cloudy with a Chance of Metaballs directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were hired by the studio to helm the project less than 15 months ago. The Variety story isn’t entirely clear, but it appears that the two are still involved; Robot Chicken‘s Chris McKay is also coming on as (co) co-director. Everyone loves Legos. Film studios are on a binge of making theatrical films based on toys. It was only a matter of time before the two came together. The building blocks are embedded in popular culture. They have that nostalgia factor going for them along with the ease of access for newcomers. Variety reports that Warner Bros. is prepared to launch a 'Lego' film of their own with Animal Logic doing up the animation. On the solely animated front, they're known for the likes of 'Happy Feet' and 'Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole.' Most of the details on the film are being kept under wraps. You don't want a wild concept like this getting leaked. It sounds kind of like 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit?' or 'Space Jam' in that it will be a blend of live-action and animation. Maybe not, though. It...

21 Jump Street was a weekly television drama starring Johnny Depp and Peter DeLuise that ran on the Fox network. So fans of the original program might have been surprised by the number of F-bombs dropped by Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum in the red-band trailer that recently hit the Web. That clip makes Phil Lord and Chris Miller.s Jump Street look like Superbad with guns(which might end up being the case). But a safer, green-band trailer (via ETOnline) sells the picture to the mainstream, which is where Columbia Pictures is going to have to reach as the movie.s release date gets closer: Oddly enough, it.s essentially the same trailer, just with the nastiest words scrubbed out. It establishes Hill and Tatum as rookie officers banished to Jump Street where, because of their young appearance, they.re tasked with infiltrating a local high school. The funniest bit...

I never really watched 21 Jump Street, essentially a rehash of The Mod Squad, during its initial run back in the '80s. So when it was announced the powers that be were making a 21 Jump Street movie, I didn't think much about it. I mean, of course they were.
The Hollywood filmmaking monster, insatiable in its appetite for remake properties with even a modicum of brand recognition, was bound to work its way around to the show that launched mega-star Johnny Depp, right? Well, now that the trailer for the 21 Jump Street movie has hit the Internet, I'm forced to think about it — for better or worse.
Before seeing the following preview, all I knew about this new flick was that Channing Tatum was set to star, in what I assumed would be the Johnny Depp role. I obviously didn't know that the directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, are best known for comedy.

21 Jump Street was a TV series before my time, and I never came across it when the Pirates of the Caribbean Series came around. So how do you reintroduce the aged series to a new audience? Our first true taste of Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s 21 Jump Street big-screen reboot, based on the highly successful 1980s tv series of the same name, has finally arrived in the form of a new red-band trailer. The show followed a group of young-looking undercover police officers who were tasked to investigate crimes committed in high schools, colleges, and other teenage venues and is widely recognized as the series that helped launch the career of Johnny Depp.
I can’t say I’m too excited to see how the reboot will honor the source material.
Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, 21 Jump Street stars Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Brie Larson, Ice Cube, Ellie Kemper, Dave Franco and Rob Riggle, and will arrive in theaters on March 16 2012.

"Get ready for a lifetime of being badass motherf**ckers." Columbia Pictures has debuted the first red band trailer for the upcoming comedy 21 Jump Street, starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as two cops who go undercover at a high school. Yes, this is the movie based on that 80's TV series, and Johnny Depp has some sort of cameo, but it's not in this. The trailer runs an excruciating 3 minutes long, giving us a good look at the characters and updated story on these cops crackin' down on drugs at school, but it does have some hilarious moments. The cast includes Ice Cube, Ellie Kemper and Johnny Simmons. Enjoy!
