Marvel Comics has fashioned itself something of a trailblazer in the world of contemporary comics and film. Beyond the fact that they’ve created their own movie studio and single-handedly brought the concept of inter-universe continuity to the big screen successfully, they’ve also produced some of the most lasting superheroes of color in the history of the medium, including mainstays like The Falcon (the first mainstream African-American superhero ever), Luke Cage, and Storm, and more obscure figures like the Blue Marvel, Misty Knight, and Blade. PoC in their comics have served as leaders of teams like the X-Men, various incarnations of The Avengers, the lofty position of Sorcerer Supreme,...

These Vintage Porn Movie Posters Are Punny and Beautiful Posters from a time when sleaze was truly an art. by Liam Mathews The New York Times profiled the reemergence of vintage porn, and helped uncover a treasure trove of awesome old smut posters. Companies like Vinegar Syndrome and Distribpix are restoring and releasing X-rated classics from the Boogie Nights era, and presenting film series at arthouse cinemas in New York that give people who miss or missed the old Times Square a chance to see 35mm films like The Opening of Misty Beethoven and Expose Me, Lovely on the big screen. These old-school posters of movies from the Distribpix archive show that, truly, they don't make 'em like this anymore. My Swedish Cousins (1970) Tigresses (1979) Vice Versa (1971) The Telephone Book (1971) Take My Head (1970) Open Air Bedroom (1970) Secretaries Spread (1970) Sex Family Robinson (1969) Blonde Goddess (1982) All images via [...]...

Since the Marvel Universe was conceived of in the much less diverse days of the early 1960s, the majority of the characters that have risen to prominence are straight, white and male (looking your way, every member of The Avengers other than Black Widow). And while Phase One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe wasn't completely lacking in diversity, most of the women there served as a love interests (Pepper Potts, Betty Ross, Jane Foster and Peggy Carter) and there were even fewer characters of color (James Rhodes as War Machine and the Ultimate version of Nick Fury, himself previously Caucasian in the comics).
Things look to be improving for Phase Two, with characters like Sif and War Machine getting prominent placement and Falcon and Sharon Carter suiting up for action. But we think Marvel can really strive for diversity by utilizing some of the great characters mentioned below in Phase Three.

TLC revisited the story of Dominique Lanoise with "600 Pound Mom: Race Against Time." She was still struggling with her weight, but wanted to get gastric bypass surgery to try and lose weight and save her life. The only problem was that doctors wanted to get her to 500 pounds before doing the surgery. Instead, Dominique continued to gain weight.
Believing her weight was killing her, doctors decided to go ahead with the procedure, despite her 689-pound mass. It was an incredibly risky surgery due to her size, but it was a successful one. Tragically, though, Dominique got sick and passed away just two weeks later.
"Dominique had great promise, and it was promised unfulfilled," her doctor said, while her six children simply said that they would miss the mother they had lost.
