Jaleel White played Steve Urkel in the ABC sitcom Family Matters for nine seasons, but don’t expect the actor to revisit the role if it’s just a “cash grab.”
In a new interview, White revealed that he shot down reprising his role of the annoying next-door neighbor in a possible reboot of the sitcom that was part of the Tgif block of programming.
“I embrace the Tgif legacy, but I’m also careful to acknowledge that Tgif was a sinking ship, and you cannot make shows like that right now,” White said on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live. “I feel like [Fuller House] got away with it because they have a schmaltzy, kind of vanilla thing that they do that’s very Hallmarkish to be quite honest and it benefits Candace [Cameron Bure] and that’s wonderful, but I just didn’t feel like we could get away with that same brand of humor.

When producers Robert L. Boyett and Thomas L. Miller mentioned 1950s cross-dressing movie Some Like It Hot while pitching a “sophisticated buddy comedy” to ABC, the network said they would air it only if that drag element was in it. The result: The November 27, 1980, premiere of the zany, good-natured, and slightly lewd Bosom Buddies, starring newcomers Tom Hanks (who soon reached stardom with the 1984 movie Splash) and Peter Scolari. They played best friends Kip and Henry, who disguise themselves as gals named Buffy and Hildy to get cheap housing at a women-only hotel. Nearly every episode of the two-season series airs in this Catchy Comedy marathon. Paul Archuleta / Filmmagic In the first season, the leading men, who work as ad agency creatives under a credit-stealing boss (Holland Taylor), somehow ...

The Step by Step cast reunited at 90s Con on Sunday and remembered the late Suzanna Somers.
Patrick Duffy, Staci Keanan, Angela Watson, Christine Lakin, Christopher Castile, Jason Marsden and Sasha Mitchell honored their late co-star, who died in October of breast cancer.
“Suzanne gave the most beautiful, thoughtful gifts and she was a person of immense style and glamour in her real life, and I will never forget [that] and I still have them,” Keanan shared (via People).
Lakin said she always admired Somers growing up and watching reruns of Three’s Company.
“Growing up with her and watching her as a woman, as a businesswoman, as someone who was a huge star who had a bright light, who was so gorgeous, who was also so down to Earth and someone I just really admired,” Lakin said. “She was someone that made me think as a young female in Hollywood, you...

John Stamos is best known for portraying Uncle Jesse in the ABC sitcom Full House. Although Stamos loves the recognition he gets from the show, it wasn’t always like that.
The actor recently opened up about how he initially “hated” the comedy after he realized the show was more family-oriented and not like Bosom Buddies as it was originally pitched.
“Full House was… I hated that show,” Stamos said during an appearance on Hot Ones. “Obviously I ended up loving it but it was sort of pitched to me as Bosom Buddies … with a couple of kids in the background. And as we’re casting I was like, ‘They’re spending a lot of time casting these kids that are going to be in the background.'”

In 2023, anti-drag laws are being debated in at least 14 states, including Tennessee, the first to officially ban “adult cabaret performances” — which includes male or female impersonations — in public spaces or in the presence of children. But in 1980, drag formed the centerpiece of a new ABC sitcom.
Bosom Buddies is notable for being the first big break for Tom Hanks, then 24, and paired him with relative newcomer Peter Scolari, then 25. They played Kip Wilson and Henry Desmond, respectively — two pals who assume female alter-egos named Buffy and Hildegard in order to live in an affordable women’s hotel in New York City. The show was conceived almost by accident by Thomas L. Miller and Robert L. Boyett, the duo behind a raft of 1970s hit sitcoms including Happy Days, Mork & Mindy and Laverne & Shirley.
Buddies was pitched to ABC as a male version of the latter, reminiscent of “a sophisticated Billy Wilder comedy.

The Producers Guild of America Awards awarded Chloé Zhao’s “Nomadland” with their top prize, one of the key indicators for the Academy Awards, particularly the best picture category. Edging out its closest competitors including Emerald Fennell’s “Promising Young Woman,” Lee Isaac Chung’s “Minari” and Aaron Sorkin’s “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” this might just end any questions about whether or not the moving drama is running away with the Oscars’ big prize.
All the acceptance speeches were pre-recorded with “Nomadland” giving a more produced, glitzier presentation than what we’ve seen at other award shows.
It should be noted that last year’s “1917” from Sam Mendes lost the Oscar after wins from PGA and DGA to “Parasite,” which only had the coveted SAG cast ensemble prize under its belt. Coincidentally, “Nomadland” is not nominated at SAG in their top category, leaving an opening for...

With dozens of television veterans having died since last year’s mid-September ceremony, people certainly included were these six TV Academy Hall of Fame members:
Diahann Carroll
Leonard Goldberg (executive at 20th Century Fox and ABC; producer of “Charlie’s Angels” and more)
Jim Lehrer (anchor/reporter of “MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour)
Regis Philbin

Netflix has released first teaser for the revival series Fuller House, and this time with actual people. The entire cast (aside from the Olsen Twins) came together for this one, showing just how full this house will be again.
I grew up on the original series, which I’m sure is still watchable today when compared to the insufferable Disney garbage we’re given, so it’s pretty surreal to see that living room and hear that music again.
The new episodes will focus mainly on D.J., Kimmy Gibbler, and Stephanie as adults. Bob Saget, Dave Coulier, Lori Louglin, and the one and John Stamos are poised to make guest appearances on the Netflix sitcom. Series creator Jeff Franklin is executive producing the revival alongside Thomas L. Miller and Robert L. Boyett. Remember those names from the end credits of nearly every episode? Of course you do.

At the beginning of April, rumors circulated Netflix would bring back the classic TV show Full House. Now, those rumors have been confirmed. Speaking to Jimmy Kimmel on his talk show on April 20, 2015, actor John Stamos said Netflix would revive Full House as a spin-off dubbed Fuller House.
Stamos revealed Fuller House will start with an hour-long episode resembling a reunion between the main characters, and then launch into a spin-off for the remaining 12 episodes. Fuller House will center around D.J. Tanner-Fuller (played by the returning Candace Cameron-Bure), now a widowed veterinarian with two young boys and another one on the way. To help D.J. cope and raise her family, D.J.’s younger sister Stephanie Tanner (Jodie Sweetin), best friend and fellow single mother Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber), and Kimmy’s spirited daughter Ramona all move in to the San Francisco house loved by TV audiences since the late ‘80s.

It’s been on the cards for quite some time, but just yesterday Full House star John Stamos confirmed that Netflix is preparing to reboot the cult familial sitcom for a full 13-episode stint under the new moniker, Fuller House.
Bringing together the original cast and crew, it’s understood that this revamped version will witness the return of Candace Cameron-Bure, Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber. Stamos himself will produce the reboot, while also reprising his role as Uncle Jesse intermittently. According to the actor, Netflix and Co. have opened negotiations with the likes of Bob Saget, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Dave Coulier and Lori Loughlin in order to make Fuller House a true family reunion.
In a joint statement released today, executive producer Jeff Franklin, along with fellow producers Robert L. Boyett and Thomas L. Miller, touched upon their excitement of reviving the late-80s/early-90s sitcom, with...

Continuing its recent trend of making programming announcements via late-night or early-morning TV appearances, Netflix let John Stamos first tell Jimmy Kimmel on Monday (April 20) night that "Full House" is officially returning to Netflix. Netflix followed with the official release declaring that "Fuller House," created by original series creator Jeff Franklin, will premiere on Netflix in 2016. As of the current moment, Netflix's foray into multi-cam comedy is set to feature Candace Cameron-Bure, Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber as regular stars, with Stamos signed on as a guest star. Stamos will also serve as a producer. Netflix says that it is in "ongoing" discussions with Bob Saget, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Dave Coulier and Lori Loughlin, but only about "guest appearances." Regarding the current status quo in the world of "Fuller House," Netflix says that the story picks up with D.J. Tanner-Fuller (Cameron-Bure) as a pregnant widow living in San Francisco.

Netflix subscribers may soon be able to watch more of the Tanner family’s life in San Francisco. The streaming video-on-demand service is reportedly planning a new season of the classic TV show Full House.
According to TVLine, sources close to Netflix revealed the streaming company is almost ready to order 13 new episodes of the hit Full House, which ran from 1987-1995. The show’s revival could be dubbed Fuller House, and would reunite many of the original cast members as recurring or guest roles (John Stamos may even produce the show). Full House’s show creator Jeff Franklin would executive produce the new Netflix version, along with the show’s original executive producers Thomas L. Miller and Robert L. Boyett.
Netflix and Warner Bros. reps declined to comment on TVLine’s story. Additionally, a Netflix spokesperson told Variety the report about a new Full House season is “just a rumor.

According to TV Line, Netflix is super close to a 13-episode order for Fuller House to follow the continuing adventures of D.J. Tanner and Kimmy Gibbler (Candace Cameron Bure and Andrea Barber)! John Stamos, Bob Saget, and Dave Coulier will make guest appearances, and the original creator, Jeff Franklin, and executive producers Thomas L. Miller and Robert L. Boyett are onboard, too!
While it’s not likely Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will appear as Michelle, maybe there’s a place for Michelle’s childhood bestie Denise (played by Jurnee Smollett — Jussie‘s sister!) so that the Smollett family resurgence and TV takeover can be complete.
To make your hearts even fuller, Bure says she loves hanging out with Aunt Becky aka Lori Loughlin.

All of a sudden, revivals of 1990s TV series have suddenly become a big thing.
Following in the wake of news that "Twin Peaks," "The X-Files," and "Coach" are all getting revivals, TV Line reports that Netflix is close to going forward with "Fuller House," a 13-episode continuation of the ABC sitcom "Full House".
Set two decades after the original eight-season long series, the new show would focus on the now adult Tanner daughter Candace Cameron Bure as D.J. and Andrea Barber as her Bff Kimmy.
John Stamos, Bob Saget and Dave Coulier are all reportedly being eyed to make guest appearances, with Stamos having a producer role. Jeff Franklin, who created the original show, will executive produce the new series alongside Thomas L. Miller and Robert L. Boyett.

Have mercy: Could the Tanner family be making a small-screen comeback soon? Yes, according to a new report.
TVLine writes that Netflix is on the cusp of greenlighting a "Full House" reunion series, dubbed "Fuller House," that would follow members of the ABC sitcom family as adults. According to the site, the 13-episode series would focus on D.J. Tanner (Candace Cameron Bure) and best friend Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber), and feature guest appearances from "Full House" regulars Bob Saget, John Stamos, and Dave Coulier.
Rumors of a proposed "Full House" reboot swirled last summer, though that report stated that Jodie Sweetin, who played middle sister Stephanie Tanner, would also be involved. TVLine's report makes no mention of Sweetin's potential involvement; we're guessing that the Olsen twins are also not planning on appearing.

Broadchurch series two eases back into its investigation with clockwork-precise plotting and characteristically strong performances…
Warning: this review contains spoilers.
Emerging mercifully intact from under the geological pressure of its own success, the first hour of Broadchurch series two was a work of expert manipulation. Chris Chibnall’s script orchestrated the audience response with a conductor’s precision, sweeping down his baton before each ad break, cueing a collective gasp or note of creeping suspicion. The end result? We’re all hooked of course. As was ITV’s plan.
The first episode was more a mathematical achievement than anything else. Its geometric design neatly re-erected Broadchurch’s major playing pieces, unpacked a box of newcomers and strung up lines of enquiry between them all leading off into the horizon.
The hour reminded us - a little too forcefully and too often perhaps - that nobody’s innocent and everybody’s hiding things.

As someone who defended Gracepoint from the detractors who kept shouting that it could never step out from the shadow of its British predecessor, it is difficult to stay with my prior argument. During this penultimate hour, one that finally gets down to explaining the backstories of enigmatic characters, there is too much talking and too little atmosphere.
While Broadchurch was sparer and less obvious in the parallels between the storylines, here the comparisons are maddeningly apparent. Ellie is horrified to hear Susan Wright’s backstory, where her husband assaulted her eldest daughter and tried to do the same with her younger child. However, she cannot help but shake her head in outrage, wondering how a woman could not know the violations and violence occurring in her own home?

[Both this post and the clip are slightly spoiler-y. Be wary.] Last week's "Gracepoint" episode, the seventh in the mystery's 10-episode run, was a big one. For viewers who are only watching "Gracepoint" and didn't catch "Broadchurch," it introduced a couple characters and added a new layer of tension for Anna Gunn's Detective Miller. But for fans of "Broadchurch" who have been watching "Gracepoint" either out of rekindled passion or general curiosity, the episode was absolutely crucial because, for the first time, "Broadchurch" devotees didn't know what was coming. For the first six episodes, the climaxes to five of the episodes aligned directly to the cliffhangers to the first five "Broadchurch" episodes and with a very few exceptions, the plotpoints from the Fox drama could be directly matched to things that happened in the British original. But in last week's episode? Suddenly all bets were off. Detective Carver has a daughter? Tell me more! That drifter guy? Mysterious... Tom Miller went missing?...

Well, I was wrong. In the immortal words of one Willy P. Wonka, “Strike that, reverse it.” In last week’s recap, I decided that we were headed for the home stretch — that the remaining episodes of this show were going to be about honing in on Danny’s killer. What a loop we have been thrown for! Of course, I should have known that things would get worse before they got solved; that’s classic drama structure at work. But so far, Gracepoint has been pretty light in its approach. This particular episode took us away from that and pushed us hard down the road less traveled, and it also severed most — if not all — its remaining threads to Broadchurch. The key plot-point of this episode is the disappearance of Tom Miller, of course. It’s the event off of which everything else spokes, and it’s pretty elegantly written,...

Gracepoint, like its British successor Broadchurch, is named after the remote town where a young boy is murdered and several of its inhabitants become suspects. Unlike Broadchurch, though, the American reincarnation does not feel like a show defined by its setting. With the exception of a few establishing shots that show the majesty of the sea, one of the main issues with Gracepoint is how little of a personality or even an atmosphere the town creates within this drama.
This lack of personality is not a large hindrance on Gracepoint, but it shows how much feeling and tone the show lacks, especially in comparison to Broadchurch or any other murder-mystery with a small town setting. There are a few moments on the pier, yet the rest of this third episode stays indoors, in the police station where Ellie and Carver’s power struggle plays out and in the homes of...

Chicago – There are a couple directions to the long career of Bob Saget. The first is of Danny Tanner, the Dad he portrayed in the 1980s sitcom “Full House,” and the second is his stand-up act, with a reputation for filthy jokes that has no boundaries.
Both sides are revealed in his memoir “Dirty Daddy: Chronicle of a Family Man Turned Filthy Comedian.”
Saget came through Chicago in April of 2014 on a very special night at The Museum of Broadcast Communications here. “An Evening with Bob Saget” brought the comedian to the museum, and he sat down with Roe Conn of Wls-am for a Q&A session and banter with the audience.

August 12th will bring the Blu-ray release but today Scream Factory let loose with this fantastic artwork for Motel Hell.
From artist Nathan Thomas Miller this is one of the most kick ass covers I’ve seen. Miller has been responsible for a whole slew of great Scream Factory art and this one certainly gets added to the collection.
Should have disc details for you soon.

Scream Factory unearthed a first look today: The cover art for Motel Hell! The Blu-ray/DVD combo pack collector's edition is coming out on August 12th. Full specs are coming soon. The art you see here is courtesy of Nathan Thomas Miller, who provided the company with alternate packaging designs for Day of the Dead, The Burning and the upcoming Sleepaway Camp. Motel Hell, as with previous Scream releases, will feature a reversable cover for you purists out there. Me? I'm loving this art. I don't think all of the Scream Factory covers are successes, but this one is definitely top dog in my book.
