Emil Minty
- Actor
Emil (pronounced Em-eel) Minty was born in late 1972 in the Australian
state of New South Wales, possibly in Lidcombe, a south-western suburb
of Sydney. He certainly went to school at Lidcombe and was only 8 years
old when he won the part in a 1981 movie which starred an up-and-coming
actor named Mel Gibson. The movie was Mad Max 2 (known as The Road
Warrior in the USA) and it propelled Emil into international stardom as
an 8-year-old, even though he never spoke a word in the film!
Out of scores of hopefuls, Emil won the part when the final three boys were asked to tell the casting people how the character Feral Kid came to be in the compound. The movie was filmed in the outback NSW mining town of Broken Hill and the 'scenery' in the film is precisely the type of countryside for hundreds of miles surrounding Broken Hill.
After Mad Max 2 Emil had minor parts in two movies as Toby in Fluteman in 1982 and as Andy Marlow in The Winds Of Jarrah in 1983. He also did a few TV commercials.
