Apple TV+’s critically acclaimed sci-fi thriller Silo has officially been renewed for seasons three and four, which is excellent news for fans of the award-winning series. The just-announced fourth and final season will complete the story laid out in Hugh Howey’s bestselling trilogy.
“It has been a richly rewarding experience to adapt Hugh’s epic novels with our partners at Apple, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring this complete story to the screen over the course of four seasons,” stated series creator, showrunner, and executive producer Graham Yost. “With the final two chapters of Silo, we can’t wait to give fans of the show an incredibly satisfying conclusion to the many mysteries and unanswered questions contained within the walls of these silos.”

Sci-fi drama “Silo” is one of Apple TV+’s most-watched series, so it makes sense that it’s coming back for two more seasons. Apple TV+ announced Monday that it has renewed “Silo” for Seasons 3 and 4, with Season 4 wrapping the show up. It will adapt author Hugh Howey’s novel trilogy to completion.
The series, which is currently in the middle of its second season, is set in a dystopian future where the last 10,000 people on Earth live in a mile-deep bunker that protects them from the toxic and deadly world outside. However, no one knows when or why the silo was built, and any who try to find out face fatal consequences. Rebecca Ferguson stars as Juliette, an engineer, who seeks answers about a loved one’s murder and tumbles into a mystery that goes far deeper than she could have ever imagined.

Apple TV+ is renewing its sci-fi drama Silo for two more seasons — enough, it says, to bring the show to a conclusion.

Another episode of Silo is out today on Apple TV+, and it should come as no surprise that it's another good hour of television. At this point in Silo's second season, it's almost starting to feel redundant to sing its praises; this has been a rock solid season for Apple's sci-fi show, and it's showing no signs of slowing down.
"Descent" escalates the already high stakes across the board. There's a feeling now that we're speeding toward a bloody conclusion in the back half of the season, sparked by a manhunt for Knox (Shane McRae) and Shirley (Remmie Milner), two of the leaders from Mechanical who were framed for the murder of Judge Meadows (Tanya Moodie) in last week's episode, "The Harmonium." It would be very convenient for Mayor Bernard Holland (Tim Robbins) if Knox and Shirley were strung up by an angry mob he whipped up to...

The fourth episode of Silo's second season, "The Harmonium," is a pivotal turning point. Over the past few weeks we've watched as Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson) arrived at the neighboring Silo 17 and befriended Solo (Steve Zahn), the last living survivor of his Silo and her only hope of getting the materials she needs to build a suit to return home. Meanwhile, rebellion is brewing in Silo 18. As people demand answers and Mayor Bernard Holland (Tim Robbins) is forced to crack down, he makes a shocking power play that puts Knox (Shane McRae) and Shirley (Remmie Milner) in the crossfire.
It should surprise no one that "The Harmonium" is another great episode of Silo, even if it does bid farewell to one of my new favorite characters. Read on for our review, which contains Spoilers.

The fourth episode of Silo season 4 might be the sci-fi drama’s best one yet. Here’s our review.
Warning! This week’s review includes Heavy Spoilers for the entirety of the episode. You have been warned.
Where to even begin with this week’s episode of Silo? Apple’s ambitious, addictive sci-fi drama seems to get better with each episode, but this week’s chapter feels particularly effective.
Juliette and Solo are desperately trying to figure out how Juliette could breathe underwater to explore another part of silo 18. They find a classroom where Juliette has a chance to write and draw her ideas on the chalkboard, but Solo, like an excited child, keeps telling Juliette about elephants and the circus. Steve Zahn is truly remarkable here, turning Solo from a comic relief to a tragic, mysterious figure. Zahn brings a lot of childish mannerisms to Solo, adjusting the way he stands and moves,...

The more you lie to people, the more the lies unravel. That’s something Bernard needs to deal with in Silo season 2 episode 3. Meanwhile, Juliette just needs some answers.
Caution: This post contains Spoilers from Silo season 2 episode 3
We see in dystopian worlds that as leaders try to hold onto power, they end up causing a rebellion to happen. Bernard knows this is the case. The problem is the world that has been set up within the silo makes it impossible for him to share the truth.
It’s clear that he knows more than he is letting on. Judge Meadows also knows more considering she was once his shadow. She wishes she could forget that—and it does make me wonder why she hasn’t taken this memory loss pill that Sims mentions in the episode. I guess while she wants to forget, there’s a lot that she wants to remember.

The third episode of Apple TV+'s sci-fi show Silo is out now, and it's a doozy. The first season ended with a huge shake-up as Sheriff Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson) left the titular undergound Silo and set out into the wider world, only to discover that it was a wasteland. By necessity, season 2 has had to take a lot of time to re-establish the chess board following those events. The first episode, "The Engineer," was all about Juliette's journey into a neighboring Silo, where she found the last survivor of a rebellion that caused the deaths of thousands. The second, "Order," caught us up with everyone Juliette left behind, showing how her home Silo was turning into a powder keg as people demanded answers and the powers-that-be manipulated events to keep things calm.
In "Solo," Silo is finally able to represent all these plotlines and more onscreen in one episode.

After spending an hour with Juliette in Silo 17, we head back to Silo 18 in Silo season 2, episode 2. We spend an hour seeing what Juliette’s failed cleaning has done.
Caution: This post contains Spoilers for Silo season 2, episode 2.
The episode opens well with Bernard opening The Order to show us the page of what happens if there is a failed cleaning. Bernard needs to prepare for war, and we get a sense of that brewing throughout the episode.
At the same time, we get an episode of Bernard just trying to hold onto a sense of control. He’s trying to figure out how to use Juliette’s actions in a positive way to prevent war from brewing. He knows that it’s a losing battle, though. I did wonder throughout this episode if Bernard knows what happened at Silo 17 and if he knows what happened there. However, we’re...

Silo season 2 is back with another episode on Apple TV+. If the premiere episode was all about Rebecca Ferguson's Juliette Nichols, then "Order" is about everybody else. The season's second episode brings us back to the original Silo, where we get to see how its residents are dealing now that Juliette has left. They don't know what happened to her — the last anyone saw of Juliette, she was walking over the hill outside the Silo and disappearing into the distance — but they do know that it changes their entire worldview, which hinges on people not being able to survive outside long enough to climb that hill.
This is a big episode with a lot of characters at play, so let's get right into it. There will be Spoilers for "Order" in this review.

This week’s episode is low on Juliette but high on tension inside the original silo. Here’s our review of Silo season 2 episode 2.
If your jaw was left on the floor at the end of last week’s episode when Juliette encountered a survivor in the other silo, you might be a tad disappointed this week. If episode 1 kept the focus tightly on Juliette, episode 2 takes us back to her original silo and what’s been going on there since Juliette went outside.
As you’ll remember from the end of season 1, Juliette didn’t clean the lens of the camera. This small act of defiance has since thrust the entire silo into anarchy and chaos and Tim Robbins’ Holland struggles to keep everything under control. Juliette has become a symbol of resistance, her initials painted on walls and her name whispered in crowds.

It’s a unique feeling to be both mostly won over by and ultimately disappointed by a film. Yet cinema, even when it lets us down just as it builds us up, is often beautiful precisely for the sense of emotional limbo it creates. In the case of Netflix’s “Joy,” this stems from the sturdy yet rather standard execution of what is far from a standard moment in still relevant history. Not to be confused with the largely forgettable 2015 Jennifer Lawrence film of the same name, this more heartfelt historical drama centers on the creation of the first in vitro fertilization (IVF) baby, the years of research that went into the achievement and the lives of those working tirelessly to make such treatment possible. It’s also an unfortunately timely work as body autonomy and choice over birth, including IVF, again face an uncertain future.

At 10 protracted episodes, set inside a concrete structure reaching 144 levels underground to insulate thousands from the toxic world above, Silo’s first season was a fundamentally by-the-numbers dystopia. And in the wake of Amazon’s Fallout, it’s not even the only series on television that pivots on subterranean retrofuturism. In its sophomore season, though, Silo builds some momentum by broadening the scope of the shelter’s infighting.
Last season, engineer and ex-sheriff Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson) was exiled from the silo and, in full view of exterior camera feeds, didn’t die like so many others before her. Instead, she trudged out of sight into the wasteland beyond, becoming a symbol of rebellion for the downtrodden workers in the silo’s lowest Mechanical levels. The resulting powder keg invigorates the series, deemphasizing the overarching mystery in favor of dramatic irony—namely, that the hope that Juliette’s survival stokes is false.

Following that doozy of a cliffhanger last year, Silo finally returns to Apple TV+ with a second season that, thankfully, rewards the wait. The first season established some captivating foundations: based on Hugh Howey's book trilogy, it charted the aftermath of an apocalyptic event, which forced thousands to co-exist in a strictly governed underground bunker known as the silo. This second instalment — which adapts parts of Howey’s books Wool and Shift — further fleshes out the mythos while introducing fascinating new additions.
Creator and showrunner Graham Yost instantly turns the temperature up on this pressure-cooker of a dystopia. In the fallout of Jules (Rebecca Ferguson) being banished from the silo, tensions quickly boil over between Mayor Bernard Holland (Tim Robbins) and his cronies. Where the first season took a more procedural route, unravelling the central slow-burn mystery, this second run takes a more action-packed approach,...

History is brimming with untold stories and forgotten heroes—a catalog cinema is slowly chipping away at between Marvel releases, sometimes for lack of original ideas (or lack of a guaranteed audience to watch the ideas without the holy promise of fanservice) and sometimes, as is the case with “Joy” because it’s a story that needs to be told.
Director Ben Taylor is the perfect man to tell such a tale, intrinsically linked to this incredible true story of IVF treatment due to the fact his own children were made possible through such medical breakthroughs. Many viewers will likely know—consciously or otherwise—friends, family members, colleagues, or acquaintances who have some association with IVF (In vitro fertilization), or even themselves be born via a “test tube.” Miraculous as the science is that’s unburdened thousands—millions—of childless women across the world, it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies for those involved.

In the early 1970s, a team of dedicated researchers in England took the first steps toward a medical milestone. Led by biologist Robert Edwards and including obstetrician Patrick Steptoe and nurse Jean Purdy, they aimed to solve infertility through a new technique—in vitro fertilization.
Faced with skepticism and opposition, their goal was to help couples struggling to conceive by assisting the natural process in a laboratory setting. After nearly a decade of tests and setbacks, they achieved a breakthrough with the 1978 birth of Louise Brown, the world’s first “test tube baby.”
The film Joy dramatizes this true story that changed lives worldwide. Directed by Ben Taylor, it stars James Norton, Bill Nighy, and Thomasin McKenzie as Edwards, Steptoe, and Purdy. Witnessing their perseverance through scientific challenges and social resistance, we glimpse the human faces behind a discovery that has since enabled millions to start families.

It’s hard to build dramatic momentum out of scientists hunched over microscopes peering at petri dishes. Indeed, director Ben Taylor struggles to clear that hurdle in his conventional but watchable enough account of the development of what became known as in vitro fertilization. While it’s more compelling as human drama than science, the film benefits from timeliness, given right-wing efforts to curb women’s reproductive freedoms and recent moves by Senate Republicans to block a bill protecting the right to IVF. That factor, plus the very capable cast, should help Joy find an audience on Netflix, though anti-choice extremists won’t be among them.

Juliette is willing to do whatever it takes to get to the truth in Apple TV+’s Silo season two’s trailer. The two-minute trailer shows Juliette surviving the harsh environment outside her silo and determined to bring the truth about this dystopian world back to her fellow survivors.

When Apple TV+’s epic sci-fi series “Silo” returns for Season 2 this fall, people will be searching for truth inside and outside of the bunker. Juliette (Rebecca Feguson) is alive above ground and looking for other survivors — and she finds one, in the form of new cast member Steve Zahn — while the inside of the Silo is on the verge of rebellion as the residents demand to know what’s really happening. “I’m not afraid of the rebellion,” says Bernard (Tim Robbins), the Silo’s mayor, who has devoted his life to keeping the populace in line. “I’m more afraid of what she saw.” She saw the truth, and in a world of secrets, there’s nothing more dangerous.

Exclusive: Thomasin McKenzie says that because of her youthful appearance — she’s 24 — it has been “a bit of a struggle” to play her own age or older, but those worries are banished with her latest role. In the wonderful movie Joy, she delivers a remarkable portrait of Jean Purdy, one of the founding pioneers of human in vitro fertilization therapy, commonly known as IVF.
If gynecologist Dr. Patrick Steptoe and physiologist Robert Edwards are regarded as the “fathers” of IVF, then Purdy, a nurse and embryologist, is its godmother.
It’s a spot-on perfect part for the New Zealander who starred in Jojo Rabbit, Last Night in Soho and The Power of the Dog, and she shines brilliantly as Purdy alongside Bill Nighy as Steptoe and James Norton as Edwards, who later was knighted for his services to medical research.

The first “Silo” Season 2 trailer promises to build on that jaw-dropping Season 1 cliffhanger with even more surprises, including Steve Zahn as a survivor from another silo.
The tag for the trailer finds Rebecca Ferguson’s Juliette taking refuge in another silo after venturing outside. There, she comes across a fellow survivor played by Steve Zahn, but he may not be so friendly.
Elsewhere Tim Robinson’s “head of It” is trying to quell a simmering rebellion after the entire silo saw Juliette go over the hill instead of dying like everyone else who’s ever left the silo.
“Season 2 is dark. It’s a bonkers exciting season,” Ferguson told TheWrap of the new season. “It is huge, man.”
The actress is under contract for four seasons which would hope to complete the adaptation of Hugh Howey’s book series, but so far “Silo” has only been renewed through Season 2.

The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power Showrunners Debunk Popular "Dark Wizard" Theory - Spoilers
The second season of Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power came to an end this week, and the finale seemed to leave little doubt as to the identity of the "Dark Wizard" played by Game of Thrones alum Ciarán Hinds.
However, all may not be as it seems when it comes to this mysterious and very powerful character.
We know that this blatantly evil sorcerer is an "Istar," and it was generally assumed that he must be Sarauman. Granted, it would be a pretty major change to the lore if this character "broke bad" prior to the events of Tolkien's trilogy, but so would the introduction of another Istari who was never mentioned in the saga at all.
This led to speculation that Hinds might be playing either Alatar or Pallando, the "Blue Wizards" who are never really discussed in any great detail in The Lord of the Rings...

Prime Video has already released a brief promo for this Thursday's season 2 finale of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, but an extended version has now been shared online which features quite a bit of new footage.
Spoilers for the previous episode follow.
It's not the best quality, but the video shows more of the fierce battle between Galadriel and Sauron that was teased in the first trailer. The Dark Lord is still in his Annatar form here - but as we've already seen, this makes him no less powerful.
We also have another shot of the Balrog, who was first awakened from his long slumber in the season 2 finale. The fiery demon will be unleashed from his cavern deep beneath Moria when King Durin refuses to listen to his son and digs far too deeply into the mountain.
Finally, we get a glimpse of the Dark Wizard (surely Saruman?...

The penultimate season 2 episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is now streaming, and despite featuring a massive battle and a couple of deaths (though we'd say Arondir is still kicking), it was a kiss between two characters that emerged as the biggest talking point.
Spoilers from this point on.
Though they never had a relationship in J.R.R. Tolkien's source material, Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Elrond (Robert Aramayo) locked lips in "Doomed To Die." Were these Elven comrades simply unable to contain their feelings any longer, giving in to their passionate desire for one another?
Not exactly.
The kiss was actually a strategic play on Elrond's part, as he was able to slip the captured Galadriel a cloak pin that she would later use to free herself from Adar. While some fans enjoyed this moment and are even "shipping" the characters, a lot of others...

The intense penultimate episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is now streaming, and "Doomed To Die" focused on the devastating Battle of Eregion, as Adar - with Galadriel as his prisoner - and his forces launched an attack on the Elven kingdom while Elrond and King Gil-glad mounted a desperate defence.
Spoilers follow.
With Durin unable to keep his word to Elrond by sending an army of Dwarves to bolster the Elven ranks, Adar ultimately emerges victorious, stabbing Arondir (possibly fatally) and seizing Galadriel's ring, Nenya, from Elrond before flinging the Elf to the ground.
Meanwhile, Celebrimbor realizes that Annatar has been Sauron all along, and he's been tricked into forging the nine rings for mortal men while his city crumbles around him.
Prime Video has now released a brief promo for next week's season 2 finale, and it sees the Dark Wizard (surely Saruman... right?...

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2, episode 4 is now streaming on Prime Video, and among the Ents (and Ent-wives), eerie Barrow-Wights and the debut of Tom Bombadil, the most significant talking point might be our biggest hint yet as to the true identity of The Stranger (Daniel Weyman).
Spoilers follow.
When Nori (Markella Kavanaugh) and Poppy (Megan Richards) get separated from their "Istar" friend after being whisked away by a sandstorm he caused (he still doesn't quite have a grasp of his powers), they encounter a group of larger Halflings who call themselves Stoors (Smeagol/Gollum is believed to have been a Stoorish Hobbit). After some initial hostilities, the Harfoots attempt to better explain who they were travelling with.
After describing the Stranger as "a giant" and "bigger than an Elf," Harfoot leader Gundabel sarcastically interrupts with, "oh, so he's a great big grand-elf?"
Say grand-elf...

"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" has embraced the mystery box concept in two major ways so far. The first was the "Who's Sauron?" question, which was answered at the end of season 1, when the exiled (and apparent human king) Halbrand (Charlie Vickers) turned out to be the Dark Lord all along. The other mystery, though, dragged into season 2, and it focuses on Daniel Weyman's character, commonly referred to as "The Stranger."
The question of who The Stranger is technically remains a mystery. But the camp that claims he's Gandalf has been loud from day one — and they just got another bit of ammunition in season 2 episode 4, where a character referred to him as a "grand Elf."
In this busy installment (one that includes meeting Tom Bombadil and seeing our first Entwife in action), we also meet the proto-Hobbit race called the Stoors. When Nori (Markella Kavenagh...

The Rings of Power returned to our small screens with a second season. Prime Video started things off with a three-episode premiere, and, well, all three of them were pretty boring. On a technical level, the show continues to be great. The cast is splendid. The story, on a thematic level, maintains some form of relevance. But the meandering storytelling, reliance on fanservice, and echoing of the aesthetic of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy keep the show from becoming its own thing. In contrast, a lot of critics who had the privilege of watching all the episodes of the show before filing their reviews were absolutely raving about it. I wasn’t one of them. But will my opinion about the show begin to change after the fourth episode? (Spoiler alert) No, it won’t. I mean, there are things to like about it, but overall,...

Prime Video (via Nerdist.com) has released the first clip from tomorrow's fourth episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and it introduces a character fans of J.R.R. Tolkien's work have been waiting to see brought to life on screen for a very long time.
In the clip, we see The Stranger get himself into a spot of bother when he attempts to pull branch from a tree to fashion his wizard's staff. In a moment that recalls Merry and Pippin falling foul to Old Man Willow in the book, the Stranger is trapped and consumed by the tree until old Tom Bombadil (Rory Kinnear) comes to the rescue.
If you've read Tolkien's seminal trilogy, you should be very familiar with this mysterious character, who was introduced along with his wife Goldberry when Frodo and his company made their way through the Old Forest in The Fellowship of the Ring.
