Gypsy Rose Blanchard will voice the audiobook edition of her first memoir.
Audiobook publisher RBmedia announced Tuesday that Blanchard will narrate the audiobook edition of her first memoir, My Time to Stand: A Memoir. Written by Blanchard with Melissa Moore and Michele Matrisciani, the memoir will release in December, a year after Blanchard’s release from prison.
Blanchard said in a statement: “I can’t think of a better way to connect with readers than for them to hear my voice as I read the words of my life’s journey so far. By narrating my memoir, My Time to Stand, I hope readers will feel like I’m in the room with them, so they can find the strength, hope and inspiration to explore their own stories and heal. For my whole life I was denied a voice. Now, to be in a place where I am literally speaking...

During the #MeToo movement in 2017, Brie Miranda Bryant and her team at A+E Networks were tasked with making an hour-long roundtable documentary special about the awareness campaign.
As senior VP of Lifetime original programming, Bryant was told to make sure that the doc “echoed after the hour was done.”
“It was such a conundrum,” she says now. “I just thought… how?” So she called former Bunim-Murray Prods. CEO Gil Goldschein and asked him to pitch her a doc he thought she would never buy. That pitch turned out to be “Surviving R. Kelly.” The roundtable was canceled.
“Surviving R. Kelly,” which aired in January 2019, put Kelly’s victims on camera to detail the sexual abuse they claimed they endured at the hands of the singer. The original six-hour docuseries went on to win a Peabody and, ultimately, led to Kelly’s 30-year prison sentence.

You can’t blame Bill Pullman for feeling hesitant about taking on the lead role in Lifetime’s two-part limited series Murdaugh Murders: The Movie.
It’s not that the SAG-nominated actor was worried about going dark — he’d done so not long ago, and brilliantly, in USA’s The Sinner — he simply just wasn’t aware of the tragic story of South Carolina lawyer Alex Murdaugh, who was convicted in 2023 of murdering his wife and son.
“I didn’t know about him!” Pullman revealed during the THR Frontrunners Lifetime Showcase held June 6 at San Vicente Bungalows in Los Angeles. “Then I asked the people in my life about the case, and they said, ‘Oh, I hate that guy!’ I thought, ‘Ok this is a nonstarter.'”

Paramount+’s drama Happy Face has found its title star.
Dennis Quaid will star with Annaleigh Ashford in the series and will play very much against type in the role of a notorious serial killer nicknamed “Happy Face” because he drew smiley faces on evidence in boasting about his crimes. The series, from executive producers Robert and Michelle King (Evil, The Good Fight) and showrunner Jennifer Cacicio, is based on the real-life story of Melissa Moore, the daughter of the killer; the true-crime podcast Happy Face, from iHeartPodcasts and Moore; and Moore’s autobiography Shattered Silence, written with M. Bridget Cook.
The show will use Moore’s story as a jumping-off point to tell a story of how Melissa (Ashford) is drawn back into her father’s world after decades of not having contact with him. Happy Face (Quaid), in prison for his crimes, finds a way to force himself...

Melissa Moore’s autobiography Shattered Silence inspired the podcast Happy Face, and now the podcast is getting a Paramount+ streaming series adaptation! Annaleigh Ashford – whose credits include B Positive, American Crime Story, and Masters of Sex – has signed on to star in the series, with Michael Showalter on board to direct the first episode.
I mainly know Showalter from an actor in projects like The State and Wet Hot American Summer, but his TV directing credits include episodes of Search Party, Love, Grace and Frankie, In the Dark, The Shrink Next Door, The Dropout, and I Love That for You. He has also directed the feature films Spoiler Alert, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, The Lovebirds, The Big Sick; Hello, My Name Is Doris; and The Baxter.
Happy Face will see Ashford taking on the role of Melissa, who at age 15, discovered that her beloved father was the prolific serial killer known as “Happy Face.

Daniel Gillies is returning to The CW.
The Vampire Diaries and The Originals alum will star in Sight Unseen, a co-production between the network and CTV.
The series focuses on a "top homicide detective (Dolly Lewis) who is forced to quit the job she loves after nearly killing her partner and being diagnosed as clinically blind," according to the official logline.
"Reluctant to accept help, Tess uses an assistance app and connects with Sunny Patel (Agam Darshi), a professional seeing-eye guide and an agoraphobe living 3,000 miles away.
After losing her vision, Tess is haunted by the unsolved cases she left behind.
Using a hidden camera and earpiece, Sunny remotely steers Tess through life's obstacles — and crimes — as the two challenge preconceptions about ability, trust and where to draw the line.

Plot: The living puppet Doktor Death hacks and slashes its way through the residents and staff of a retirement home in this spin-off from Full Moon’s Puppet Master franchise.
Review: Back in 1999, Full Moon released an entry in their Puppet Master franchise that was called Retro Puppet Master. That one revealed the living puppets Andre Toulon used to fight the Nazis during World War II weren’t the first group of living puppets he had. He created the first living puppets in 1902, when he found his friends murdered and decided to transfer their souls into the bodies of the puppets they used for their shows at the Theatre Magique in Paris, France so they could battle the undead servants of the god Sutekh. Toulon and those first puppets obviously went through a lot in the early decades of the 20th century and the puppets weren’t around by the end of the 1930s…...

New viral variants of the Covid-19 coronavirus are on the way, claimed Moderna scientists and executives in a Thursday virtual investor event, as reported by Barrons.
“As the virus spreads, it is rapidly mutating,” the company’s chief scientific officer, Melissa Moore, said on the call. “Some of these new viral strains appear to be even more transmissible than the original strain… We already know that some of these new strains are less susceptible to neutralization by our current vaccine.”
The company is constantly testing its vaccine against the new variants, she said. But that complex work lags their emergence.
“The shortest time from the detection of a variant of concern to preclinical immunogenicity readout against a panel of pseudoviruses is approximately 2 to 3 months,” said Guillaume Stewat-Jones, a Moderna scientist who works as associate director of antigen design and selection on their infectious disease team. “And new viral variants are...

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday that he will introduce a proposal that would finally legalize marijuana in New York state.
“I’m announcing a proposal to legalize cannabis and create an equitable adult-use cannabis program in Nys,” Cuomo tweeted Wednesday. “This program will generate much-needed revenue, while allowing us to support those that have been most harmed by decades of failed cannabis prohibition.”
Under the proposal, New York would establish a new Office of Cannabis Management, which would oversee both the recreational program and the state’s preexisting medical marijuana program.

Despite what felt like sea-changing momentum, marijuana legalization in New York and New Jersey have met serious roadblocks — and at almost exactly the same time. Just a few months ago, it had seemed all but certain in both states, with supportive governors backing progressive legalization poised to pass Democratic-controlled statehouses. Then, in the span of just a few days in late March, both states saw their efforts fall apart. Officials remain optimistic, but refuse to give a timetable for possible legalization.

Donald Farmer’s cult classic, Vampire Cop has delighted B-movie fans for over two and half decades since debuting in 1990. It also marked one of the earliest appearances of popular scream queen Melissa Moore. Yet to this day, it’s only been released on VHS…

Seventeen-year-old Kendal (Haley Lu Richardson) can barely recall when the Oregon valley was still lush. It’s been a decade since the last rainfall, and society at large has dried up and blown away. Kendal and the few others that remain barely scrape by, while dreaming of escape. When a greedy water baron lays claim to what little of the precious resource remains underground, Kendal must decide whether...

From the first frame of Amir Shervan's 1989 film Samurai Cop, you know that you're in for a treat. Cheesy 1980s artificial pop music that sounds like it was generated by a Casio keyboard, courtesy of Alen Dermarderossian, with white credits set against a black background (a surefire indicator that you're watching a low-budget film) give way to Okamura (Gerald Okamura) complaining that they are not an established gang, and as such, they should be very cautious to make friends with the Chinese and Japanese gangs. He grunts and groans and makes exclamations that aren't always decipherable. Former porn star Krista Lane, who is part of the gang, says things like, “Here comes the boss!” or “The boss is coming.” Robert Z’Dar, best known for the Maniac Cop films, is an imposing figure who does the boss’s dirty work. Needless to say, they get into...

Before directing Detroit Rock City and unleashing a giant sperm on New York City in the “Wadzilla” segment of Chillerama, Adam Rifkin introduced the world to a horny, psychopathic phantom known as The Invisible Maniac. Not enough movie maniacs have their own personal theme songs, if you ask me.
Working under the alias “Rif Coogan”, Rifkin helmed this 1990 T&A slasher comedy about a sexually repressed nerd named Kevin Dornwinkle, who grows up to invent invisibility only to be mocked by his colleagues. The stinging mockery drives him over the edge so he murders them. He escapes from an insane asylum and goes incognito as a summer school teacher, where he continues to perfect his invisibility formula while taking an unhealthy interest in student bodies, particularly those of scream queens Melissa Moore, Debra Lamb, and the late porn star Savannah.
I’m fairly certain Rifkin is one of the many...

In the 80s, rock music and horror movies went together like acid washed jeans and feathered hair. The trouble is, even though many horror movies had awesome rock soundtracks, the movies that specifically featured rock musician characters as heroes or villains varied wildly in quality. Although the rock horror movie has mostly gone the way of the 80s, I’m not sure any other type of music will ever have such a successful love affair with horror. I can’t picture people turning up for a movie called Pop Divas of the Apocalypse, or Death by Dubstep, or even Bloody Pit of Techno Bastards. But what do I know? I’m still stuck in the 80s. Here are 10 of the movies that are stuck with me.
Rocktober Blood (1984)

-- Bruce Springsteen, "Wrecking Ball" (Columbia)
Nearly three decades ago, Bruce Springsteen wrote with sadness about a man showing his young son a hometown ravaged by outside economic forces, a town the family was about to leave.
He's not sad now. He's angry, mighty angry. On the new song, "Death to My Hometown," he wants to "send the robber barons straight to hell, the greedy thieves who came around and ate the flesh of everything they found, whose crimes have gone unpunished now, who walk the streets as free men now."
With economic injustice, Springsteen's powerful new disc has a subject he can sink his teeth into, and he matches it with music that has some of the same clenched fury.
The working man who "always loved the feel of sweat on my shirt" now wakes up each morning feeling imprisoned in a system stacked against him. In "Jack of All Trades,...
