Few would argue that George C. Scott was one of the greatest actors of stage and screen. His presence in even a mediocre movie elevated its status considerably and his work as the nutty general in "Dr. Strangelove" was described by one critic as "the comic performance of the decade". When Scott won his well-deserved Oscar for Best Actor in "Patton" (which he famously refused), he seemed to be on a roll. His next film, the darkly satirical comedy "The Hospital" predicted the absurdities of America's for-profit health care system in which the rich and the poor were taken care of, with everyone else falling in between. The film earned Scott another Best Actor Oscar nomination despite his snubbing of the Academy the previous year. From that point, however, Scott's choice of film roles was wildly eclectic. There were some gems and plenty of misfires that leads...

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before – Daddy’s Home features Will Ferrell as a too-nice, overly idealistic stepfather who must compete with Mark Wahlberg’s rugged, motorcycle-riding biological father for his new family’s love. Ferrell is the straight man, Wahlberg shows off his abs a lot, and wacky hi-jinx ensue that cause both men to go a little a lot insane.
You’ve seen both leading men play mirroring characters in previous films, and based on the trailers, you know exactly what to expect when these daddies come home this holiday season. For some, this bland comedic regurgitation will be perfectly fine, but for those who are growing tired of watching a squeaky-clean Will Ferrell get his ass kicked, you’ll see every joke coming from a mile away. Familiarity – it’s hard to avoid these days.

One of Mel Brooks' least-discussed films, the 1991 comedy "Life Stinks", is also one of his most accomplished works. The film didn't click with Brooks's usual audience at the time, perhaps because the film is laced with social commentary. Brooks obviously ignored the old Hollywood advice to "Leave the messages to Western Union". Nonetheless, it's precisely because of this departure from his usual productions that gives "Life Stinks" a certain poignancy that isn't found in his earlier works. Granted, Brooks always included some sentiment in his films (even Zero Mostel's Max Byalystock in "The Producers" is con man with some admirable traits.) However, "Life Stinks" makes a plea for compassion toward society's most vulnerable people, even as it concentrates on the primary purpose of any Brooks film: to make the audience laugh.

This is one of the reasons I love Scream Factory so much. The Doctor and the Devils is a film that I have never seen. I’ve heard it mentioned a couple of times, but never did the opportunity arise for me to have seen it. It’s weird, because it sounds right up my alley. Thankfully, on November 14th, Scream Factory will be dropping the film onto Blu-ray. Check out the press release below, and be sure to pre-order your copy by either clicking here to purchase on Shout!’s website, or here for Amazon.

*Updated* It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly 40 years since the release of Mel Brooks’ classic horror comedy, but Young Frankenstein was released on December 15, 1974 and Fox is preparing a new 40th anniversary edition Blu-ray.
“Los Angeles, CA (August 14, 2014) – The scariest comedy of all time gets resurrected as Young Frankenstein: 40th Anniversary arrives on Blu-ray September 9 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Comedy icons Gene Wilder, Peter Boyle, Cloris Leachman, Marty Feldman, Teri Garr and Madeline Kahn star in Mel Brooks’ brilliantly outrageous riff on Mary Shelley’s classic story of Frankenstein. After inheriting his grandfather’s castle in Transylvania, young Dr. Frankenstein (Wilder) follows in his ancestor’s freaky footsteps as he sets out to reanimate a dead body in Brooks’ “funniest, most cohesive comedy to date.” (The New York Times)

Fake family is the best way to move a huge shipment of weed into the U.S. from Mexico? We’ll see about that! Today, we’re here to give you the first official look at the upcoming action comedy We’re The Millers, which opens next summer. The whole thing comes from Dodgeball helmer Rawson Thurber and as you probably already know – it has an awesome cast on board! Take a look and let us know what you think!
Thurber directs the movie from a script written by Steve Faber, Bob Fisher, Sean Anders and John Morris which follows David Burke, a small-time pot dealer who creates a fake family as part of his plan to move a huge shipment of weed into the U.S. from Mexico.
David Burke is a small-time pot dealer whose clientele includes chefs and soccer moms, but no kids – after all, he has his scruples.

It’s, in a word, perfect. Talk about Bobby and Peter Farrelly‘s sequel to their comedy classic Dumb and Dumber had just about reached Ghostbusters 3 proportions (a special new realm occupied by Kick-Ass 2 talk) back in June when Jim Carrey dropped out, but the pair seem bound and determined to make the film happen, and with both Carrey and Jeff Daniels back as Lloyd and Harry. Perhaps in a bid to get some real heat on the project, Bobby Farrelly fessed up to DigitalSpy some meaty details about the sequel, and they sound – this might sound crazy – actually completely spot-on. How often does that happen to a sequel? Straight out of the gate, Farrelly says that both Carrey and Daniels are set for this film, and gives fans the solemn vow that “we will make this movie.” Well, alrighty! But what’s it about? In regards to the screenplay, Farelly...

London, May 9: A sensational new book has caused a storm among historians by claiming that Jack the Ripper, Britain's most notorious serial killer, was in fact a woman.
Former solicitor John Morris, 62, has named Welsh-born Lizzie Williams as the Whitechapel monster and claims she killed her victims because she could not have children, ripping out the wombs of three in an "unhinged state".
Lizzie was the wife of royal physician Sir John Williams, himself seen as a prime suspect by many other crime experts.

Though the success rate might not have been quite as high as he’d prefer (Talladega Nights good; Semi-Pro not so much), Will Ferrell clearly still sees the sports comedy genre as a viable target. Thoughts by Tsr: Adam Sandler hates us. It’s the only explanation for why he keeps making these pitiful “comedies.” I long for him to do something interesting like Punch-Drunk Love again, but he seems perfectly happy producing trash that rakes in hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office. I thought returning to R-rated fare might be a step in the right direction, but That’s My Boy looks just as atrocious as the rest.
This isn’t comedy. It’s nothing more than Sandler putting on another goofy voice and being filthy for the sake of being filthy. There’s nothing funny about Sandler smoking a bong with Vanilla Ice. Maybe it’ll end up funny in the final product, but...

John Carter hits theaters today. And whether you’re buying into the hype that it’s a big-budget film that is destined to fail or you’re listening to the great number of film critics — including our own Robert Levin — who are saying that despite its faults, it’s the first legitimate event film of the year, it’s still going to be hitting theaters. For those seeking more information before a decision is made, we’ve got you covered. Over the next several days we’ll be rolling out conversations with John Carter‘s creative team, including the likes of director Andrew Stanton, producers Lindsey Collins and John Morris, as well as some of the film’s stars. We begin today with an intimate chat held with veteran actor Willem Dafoe, who plays Tars Tarkas, the leader of a Martian species of 9-foot tall, four-armed green aliens who live in the harsh deserts of Earth’s...

It wasn’t until watching the newest green band trailer for That’s My Boy that everything became clear. Underneath the baffling, annoying voice Adam Sandler makes through the whole thing, the simple truth remains: this is the unofficial sequel to Big Daddy. In that 1999 comedy, Sandler played a terrible man-child who let his fraudulently adopted son become the smelly kid in class by being lazy and moronic. In the film from Sean Anders and John Morris, Sandler plays a terrible child-child who becomes a father after knocking up his middle school teacher and now (many years later) has to deal with an estranged, very successful son played by Andy Samberg. In a movie world where Sandler doesn’t evolve or grow up in Big Daddy, this is what little Frankenstein would have become. He ate the terrible candy he wanted to, he dressed how he wanted to, he had zero discipline and here’s how it...

Though he may be a bit of a mixed bag, Adam Sandler’s films almost always do very well at the box office, and regardless of what you might think of the films themselves, they’re usually a pretty big commercial success.

I laughed out loud at the end of this red band movie trailer. They gave Leighton Meester one of the best lines in That’s My Boy…and she says it with such passion. Hilarious. This film seems far more American Pie than any of Adam Sandler’s previous films. Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing is up to the viewer.
That’s My Boy also stars Milo Ventimiglia, Dana Goodman, Eva Amurri Martino, Will Forte, Blake Clark, Ian Ziering, Vanilla Ice, Todd Bridges, and Ciara.

Columbia has released this absolutely crazy red band trailer for the new raunchy comedy That’s My Boy, originally titled I Hate You Dad, starring Adam Sandler as the god-awful no good parent to Andy Samburg’s character. The trailer debuted on MTV. The movie follows the story of a dead beat dad who is way behind on his taxes and looks to reunite with his very successful son so that he can pay back those taxes and avoid going to jail. Leighton Meester, James Caan, Susan Sarandon, Milo Ventimiglia and Will Forte. While the story of a father and son reunion comedy sound nice, the trailer doesn’t deliver.

Experimental Chilean photographer whose short career resulted in a string of inspirational images
Although he was photographically active for scarcely more than a decade and was the author of just four books (all of them now collectors' items), the stature and reputation of the Chilean photographer Sergio Larrain, who has died aged 80, continued to grow after he withdrew from the vibrant European world of street photography to live in a meditational retreat.
Born into a professional family in Santiago (his father was an architect), he began by studying music. At the age of 18, he went to the Us and studied forestry at the University of California, Berkeley, before transferring to Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1954. He also travelled through Europe and the Middle East, taking a camera. When he returned home, he began freelancing for the Brazilian magazine O Cruzeiro with a heart-searing series on street children living on the banks of the Rio Mapuche.

While it doesn't always seem like it these days, not everyone in Hollywood wants to make a sequel. However, after decades of aversion, writer/directors/siblings Bobby and Peter Farrelly admitted they were finally ready for a sequel and are working on a follow-up to 1994's Dumb and Dumber. "We’re starting to think about what those two dimwits would be doing twenty-years later in life," said Bobby at the time. "And hopefully we’ll be able to come up with something worthy of a sequel." It appears they did.

It’s “only” seventeen years after the fact, but now Dumb and Dumber 2 is not only semi-officially in the early stages of pre-production, but the sequel could also be Bobby and Peter Farrelly’s next directorial effort.
The Farrelly Brothers revealed earlier this year that they were planning a proper Dumb and Dumber followup – unlike the widely-despised 2003 prequel, Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd, which the filmmakers were not actually involved with. However, they’ve (essentially) been too preoccupied with their passion project (next year’s Three Stooges movie) over the past several months to give a sequel much additional thought.

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels could be back on the big screen as loveable idiots Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne, if Peter and Bob Farrelly have their way.
The producing duo have expressed their desire to get Carrey and Daniels back in a much awaited sequel to the original 1994 hit, according to Deadline.
Sean Anders and John Morris have been hired to write the screenplay while original producers, Charles B. Wessler, Brad Krevoy and Steve Stabler will return alongside, Conundrum Entertainment partner Bradley Thomas.
With a meagre $16m budget Dumb and Dumber grossed over $250m worldwide, garnering a huge fan base and critical acclaim.
However, the ill-fated follow-up, Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd - starring Derek Richardson and Eric Christian Olsen – quashed any hopes of a credible Carrey-Daniels sequel for some time.
Only time will tell if the Farrellys can work their magic on Carrey and Daniels. Stay tuned.

The Dumb and Dumber sequel has acquired a pair of screenwriters. Sean Anders and John Morris will produce the script for the follow-up to Peter Farrelly and Bobby Farrelly's 1994 movie, reports Deadline. The intention is to reunite Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels - the original Dumb and Dumber stars - for the new film. The Farrelly Brothers are planning to begin work on the project now that they have wrapped The Three Stooges. (more)...

It was in early-June that Jim Carrey hinted at the idea of a Dumb and Dumber sequel (here), and it looks to be actually be happening. Deadline is reporting that Sean Anders and John Morris have been hired to pen the script for the proposed sequel. The Farrelly Brothers have just recently wrapped up production on The Three Stooges, and are hoping this film will be their follow-up.
The last time we saw Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne was in the prequel Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd. That film was panned by both fans of the original film and critics. There’s no way of knowing how this will turn out just yet, but it can’t be any worse than the prequel. Hopefully, both Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey are willing to reprise their roles.

Could Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne be headed back to the big screen for more dumb (and dumber) shenanigans? That may be in the works, but before you groan about remakes and bad prequels, it sounds like this one will be a sequel and helmed by the Farrelly brothers, who directed the original film more than a decade ago. Deadline reports that with The Three Stooges wrapped, Peter and Bobby Farrelly are looking at working on a sequel to the 1994 comedy Dumb and Dumber. Sean Anders and John Morris have been hired to write the script, which is hoped next on deck for the Farrelly brothers to direct. Ideally, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels would return to reprise their big-hearted, dim-witted characters Harry and Lloyd. As Deadline points out, Carrey isn.t usually big on sequels, but he apparently made hints about the D&D sequel while promoting Mr. Popper...

With plans for a sequel originally reported by ComingSoon.net earlier this year , Deadline now has word that another Dumb and Dumber film has hired the writing pair of Sean Anders and John Morris. "We're talking about maybe returning to some old characters that everyone has been asking about," Carrey said this past June. "...There's 'Bruce Almighty' and we're talking about maybe another 'Dumb and Dumber.'" Now it appears that the Dumb sequel could go first as Bobby and Peter Farrelly want to make it their followup to next year's The Three Stooges , reuniting Carrey with co-star Jeff Daniels. The original Dumb and Dumber , released in 1994, represented one of Carrey's breakout comedy roles. The film was given a prequel in 2003 with Dumb and...

I’ll open myself up here a little bit and tell you I am a huge Jim Carrey fan. I usually love everything he does, and Fun With Dick and Jane is one of my all time favorite movies. He always finds a way to put his “charm” in everything and Mr. Poppers Penguins is no different. The film may have released a bit too early, noting that the entire movie takes place during Christmas, but it will be a surprise family favorite for many.
This movie’s original intention was probably purely for kids. However they have found many ways to intrigue the whole family. Every line in the movie attempts to be a joke or lead up to a joke. The idea in essence is a great one, as many of the jokes do click and will make you laugh out loud. Other jokes, while some maybe funny,...

One may not expect much from a Jim Carrey movie about a workaholic who saves his relationship with his family by adopting some penguins, but “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” is a uniquely funny film and deserves more credit. Fans of Richard and Florence Atwater’s book should be forewarned, however: Changes have been made to the story line from the classic tale so you may not recognize your beloved Mr. Popper.
Not to say that this “Mr. Popper” isn’t a family-friendly film, as it does have all the cliché elements of a kids’ flick, plus Carrey’s usual humor sanctioned for a PG audience.
The movie opens with Tom Popper as a young boy constantly having to communicate with his globe-trotting father via radio transmitter.

Chicago – Pity the poor penguin making pictures. Their wings cannot fly, they have no script approval or agents, just a trainer bribing them with food to hit the mark. Their presence, their cuteness, even their flightlessness are exploited for a dreadful Jim Carrey film called “Mr Popper’s Penguins.” Somebody call PETA.
Rating: 1.5/5.0
Jim Carrey as Mr. Popper is the head of a New York City family, who are best described as schizophrenically insane. Somehow penguins figure in the story, which has no heart, soul or narrative center. It’s really just a sad circus parade of random, Jim Carrey-esque comic bits, clinging to the frayed and absurd premise that simply showing penguins being penguins is enough to sustain a feature film.
Mr. Popper is a typical movie Dad. He is wealthy, ambitious and somehow within that earning power and career determination managed to squeeze in a marriage and two kids.

Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg are already in place as the combative father and son, but now directors Sean Anders and John Morris are eyeing a possible addition of James Caan. The star of such favorites as The Godfather, Elf and Way Of The Gun still works regularly, and while the intended role hasn.t been revealed yet, I suspect it will be to play Sandler.s father. How would that be for three subsequent generations? Stern father, goofy son and even goofier grandson. I quite enjoyed She’s Out Of My League, Hot Tub Time Machine and even bits of Sex Drive, so the idea that the two guys behind those movies – Sean Anders and John Morris – have just entered talks to direct Adam Sandler’s next man-child movie I Hate You Dad, well it fills me with more hope than if it were Dennis Dugan helming.
Having worked with Dugan on the majority of his 21st century career (Just Go With It, Grown-Ups, You Don’t Mess With The Zohan, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry and more, including the upcoming Jack & Jill) – Sandler’s best films & performances have easily come outside of working with his friend (Funny People, Reign Over Me, Spanglish, Punch-Drunk Love, even the low-brow comedies Click and Anger Managment are better than his Dugan efforts).
