- Oscar-winning Danish director Laurits Munch-Petersen was born 19. July 1973 on the island of Bornholm. He graduated from the acclaimed National Film School of Denmark in 2003 with "Between Us" which won 14 international awards, including an Oscar, and became the most award winning film from the school to date.
Laurits has written and directed a string of award-winning documentaries, tv-series, feature films, music videos and commercials. His feature film debut, "Ambulance" (2005), was remade in 2022 by iconic Hollywood director Michael Bay (Armageddon, Pearl Harbour, Transformers) starring Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain, Nightcrawler, Nocturnal Animals, etc). Laurits' 2nd feature film the surreal thriller, "Over the Edge" (2012), discovered the Danish star actress Danica Curcic and was nominated for a Robert. His 3rd feature film "Shadow of a Hero" (2015) chronicles the director's own family story and was nominated for a Bodil and won several international awards.
Laurits has lived in Mexico and Spain, but currently lives in Copenhagen. He has 3 daughters who have appeared in many of his films such as the popular TV-series "On the Road with Dad".
