- Served in the RAF 1941 to 1945.
- British radio and film comedian and dancer, the son of a tea broker. He was best known for his successful partnership with fellow entertainers Arthur Askey and Kenneth Horne. Served in the RAF during World War II.
- Made his stage debut in the chorus of 'The Blue Train' which after a short tour went to The Prince of Wales Theatre in London's West End.
- Children included daughters Belinda Murcoch and Jane Murdoch who were both on the stage.
- Moved to Tunbridge Wells when about 1 year old.
- With no training he started as a dancer.
- Had the nickname Stinker. This is in relation to his public schoolboy days.
