With a new sitcom about a group of four friends in their golden years, Nathan Lee Graham understands if fans might be experiencing a little déjà vu.
Although the Mid-Century Modern star recently explained that his upcoming Hulu multi-camera series is “not Golden Girls,” he’s certainly not bothered by comparisons to the beloved 1985-’92 NBC sitcom that starred Bea Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty.
“It’s not Golden Girls, but the similarities are inevitable, right?” Graham told Queerty‘s Michael Musto. “You have three single guys coming together that happen to be homosexual, moving to one person’s place, so the similarities are going to be drawn. And it’s not a bad thing to be compared to. The show is it’s own thing, but it’s nice to be compared to something you truly love.”

There’s a new frontrunner in Gold Derby’s Oscar odds for Best Director: Brady Corbet for “The Brutalist.”
The American filmmaker has broken his tie with Sean Baker (“Anora”) to claim the No. 1 position on our chart for the upcoming 2025 Oscars. Note that it’s still quite early in this awards season, and things could keep changing as our experts, editors, and users continue to update their predictions.

If you’re hoping for drama at this year’s Academy Awards, we suggest looking somewhere other than the Best Director race. Gold Derby’s Oscar Experts from major media outlets unanimously predict that there’s a “near zero” chance Christopher Nolan (“Oppenheimer”) won’t be taking home this trophy. The filmmaker has already claimed precursor prizes at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards, and is also the favorite at the upcoming BAFTAs and DGA Awards.
For the record, Nolan’s fellow nominees in the director category are Yorgos Lanthimos (“Poor Things”), Jonathan Glazer (“The Zone of Interest”), Martin Scorsese (“Killers of the Flower Moon”) and Justine Triet (“Anatomy of a Fall”). Not making an appearance in this race is Greta Gerwig (“Barbie”), who was shockingly snubbed on nominations morning — though she is nominated as a screenwriter.

Disgraced ex-congressman George Santos may have been expelled from the House of Representatives on Dec. 1 by a vote of 311-114 — but that doesn’t mean it’s the end of the story for the alleged serial grifter and sometimes drag queen from New York. HBO Films has already optioned The Fabulist, a book about Santos’ rise and fall, for adaptation, with Frank Rich and Mike Makowsky (HBO’s Bad Education) attached to executive produce and Makowsky set to write. As for Santos, public opinion seems to think he’ll find a future on Dancing with the Stars — so much so that the show trended on X alongside news of his historic expulsion.
Asked if he would consider competing on the show that has featured the likes of Sean Spicer and House majority leader Tom DeLay (indicted on charges of conspiring to violate political fundraising law), Santos told reporters, “Today, I...

For the 20 years of predicting hundreds of awards shows, Gold Derby has not made a mistake in calculating scores for an event. However, for Tuesday’s Tony Awards nominations, Jordan Donica (“Camelot”) accidentally did not have his name checked as a nominee for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. That caused our score report to be inaccurate by one slot, so please accept our apologies for the mistake.
The top User remains the same with Josh_Moore having the best score of 78.57% (66 of 82 slots correct) when predicting the 2023 nominations. Our top scorer is actually tied with seven other people — Brian Lipton, Carter_Eldridge, Peggy Sawyer42, JMo96, Jake North, Oscar7212 and Boots127 — but has the better point score of 25,270 by using the two Super Bets (500 points each) wisely.

Parker Posey in Daisy von Scherler Mayer's Party Girl. Of NYC in the '90s, Posey says, "There was such community back then, without it feeling like 'community'—it was more like 'the scene' or 'nightlife,' and you could run into people on the streets that you'd seen out dancing."Movie-lovers!Welcome back to The Deuce Notebook, a collaboration between Mubi's Notebook and The Deuce Film Series, a monthly 35mm event at Nitehawk Williamsburg that excavates the facts and fantasies of cinema's most infamous block in the world: 42nd Street between 7th and 8th Avenues. This month, we celebrate Daisy von Scherler Mayer’s Party Girl, the quintessential centerpiece of Parker Posey’s prolific ’90s oeuvre. Originally released in June 1995, the film inspired Vanity Fair contributor Michael Musto to crown Posey “the new queen of the art house.”A slightly overdue existential crisis befalls Posey’s street-savvy,...

Michelle Williams (“The Fabelmans”) was the front-runner for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars when we thought that was where she would be competing, so it was a surprise when it was announced that she’d be campaigning as a lead actress instead. Will that gambit pay off? Well, it’s off to a good start. A week following the announcement, she’s already in the top five in Expert journalists’ predictions for Best Actress.
SEEMichelle Williams can give Steven Spielberg a rare Oscar bingo with a Best Actress win for ‘The Fabelmans’
As of this writing Williams already ranks fourth in Experts’ forecasts with 13 out of 19 betting on her to be nominated: Thelma Adams (Gold Derby), Clayton Davis (Variety), Erik Davis (Fandango), Shawn Edwards (Wdaf-tv Fox), Joyce Eng (Gold Derby), Tariq Khan (Fox TV), Susan King (Gold Derby), Michael Musto (Queerty), Perri Nemiroff (Collider), Christopher Rosen (Gold Derby), Keith Simanton...

Before “The Fabelmans” premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, Paul Dano was the presumptive favorite to win Best Supporting Actor for his role in Steven Spielberg‘s semiautobiographical drama. But there has been a major shift in the forecasts of the Expert journalists we’ve surveyed. Dano has lost a little bit of ground, slipping down to second place, while his co-star Judd Hirsch has skyrocketed to third place.
There are currently 17 Experts betting on the Oscars. Of those, 12 are predicting a Best Supporting Actor nom for Dano with two saying he’ll win for his role as the father of a teenage boy who aspires to be a filmmaker: Susan King (Gold Derby) and Jazz Tangcay (Variety). But now there are 11 predicting a nom for Hirsch with three picking him to win as the boy’s elderly uncle: Michael Musto (Queerty), Christopher Rosen (Gold Derby), and Peter Travers...

Brendan Fraser (“The Whale”) has taken over the lead in our Oscar Experts’ predictions for Best Actor. This follows his film’s premieres at the Venice Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival, both of which ended in lengthy standing ovations. Fraser is also the recipient of a tribute award at the Toronto fest, which could be just the start of his awards journey.
Fraser stars in the film as a 600-pound man trying to reconnect with his teenage daughter after abandoning his family. The film is directed by Darren Aronofsky and has been met with generally positive, though not glowing reviews — 64 on MetaCritic, 78 fresh on Rotten Tomatoes — but Fraser’s performance has been called “fully and radiantly human,” “a confident leap forward,” and “a truly great comeback performance.”
