The prehistoric stone monument known as Stonehenge has stood on the misty plains of England for thousands of years, but even today very little is known about its origin or purpose. The mystery has inspired countless myths, legends and tales of the supernatural, and of course movies have also riffed on the idea of the stones possessing unimaginable powers. (There's also that bit in This is Spinal Tap, but we won't count that.) I kinda dig the concept in Halloween III: Season of the Witch, which suggests cuttings from a “Blue Stone” could be used to trigger global genocide. But a new theory has come to light that I like even better: ancient visitors to Stonehenge just wanted to rock. Photo: Gareth Wiscombe via Flickr Gizmodo recently reported a study conducted by a team of UK archaeologists, testing their theory that the stones were chosen specifically for their musical properties.

Washington, June 30: Archaeologists have said that an engraving of a reindeer on the wall of a cave in South Wales is atleast 14,505 years ago - making it the oldest known rock art in the British Isles.
Dr George Nash from the University of Bristol's Department of Archaeology and Anthropology had discovered the engraving in 2010, while he was exploring the rear section of Cathole Cave, a limestone cave on the eastern side.
