Bloody Disgusting is the official sponsor of this year’s Yorkiethon IX from horror filmmakers Adam Green (Hatchet) and Joe Lynch (Suitable Flesh) and their podcast The Movie Crypt, and the 48-hour live broadcast kicks off tonight (July 25) from 5pm – 10pm Pst. The show continues Saturday (7/26) 9am Pst – 8pm Pst, and Sunday (7/27) 9am Pst – 5pm Pst.
One of the highlights of the annual Yorkiethon every year is Arwen’s Silent Auction, where horror fans can bid on donated items ranging from autographed movie memorabilia, screen-used wardrobe, and rare vinyl box sets to toys, games, and dates with the three hosts.
One of this year’s auction items is particularly special, as makeup effects master Christopher Nelson has donated a Michael Myers mask pulled from the original mold that was created for Halloween Kills. Jamie Kennedy has opened up on one franchise star returning to Scream after another's controversial exit.
After starring in two Scream movies as Sam Carpenter, Melissa Barrera was fired from the upcoming sequel, Scream 7, because of remarks she made on social media about the Gaza war. It was later revealed that Neve Campbell had signed on to return for Scream 7 with original Scream writer Kevin Williamson directing. Courteney Cox is now in talks to return as well. In an interview for The Thing With Two Heads podcast, Scream star Jamie Kennedy addressed the situation with co-hosts Sean Clark and Christopher Nelson, and he put his support behind both Campbell and Barrera.

One of my all-time favorite movie quotes comes from David Arquette as Dewey Riley in Scream 2 when he says, “How do you know that my dimwitted inexperience isn’t merely a subtle form of manipulation, used to lower people’s expectations, thereby enhancing my ability to effectively maneuver within any given situation?”
There’s something about Land of Dead that just screams this quote at me. Pardon the pun. My point is that George A. Romero’s 2005 zombie return looks on the surface like any B-movie fly-by-night mid-2000s zombie fest. And it’s dressed that way on purpose. Those familiar with the subtle and effective way Romero was able to land haymakers in our faces without ever telegraphing as much as a jab will assume I’m talking about the socio-political nuances of the film. While true that Romero is a master at that, I will leave that to those smarter than myself.

Following the success of their Halloween trilogy, writer/director David Gordon Green and Blumhouse re-teamed to tackle another esteemed horror property: The Exorcist.
The Exorcist: Believer possesses home video with an audio commentary by David Gordon Green, co-writer Peter Sattler, special makeup FX designer Christopher Nelson, and executive producer Ryan Turek, among other extras.
Here are 15 things I learned from The Exorcist: Believer commentary…
1. The film’s opening soundscape is inspired by a meditation app.
The film’s opening logos are accompanied by droning sounds inspired by calming music on a meditation app that Green uses.
“I am a fan of the mid-afternoon meditation shutdown, and I listen to a little app that’s full of singing bells and chimes and little brain cleansers, so I thought nothing better for our brainwaves than to open our movie with some of the same.”
‘Brainwaves’ was also the code name adopted for the production.

Amazon listings had previously said that The Exorcist: Believer (our review can be read Here), the latest entry in the Exorcist franchise, wouldn’t be reaching physical media until July of 2024, but thankfully that’s not the case. This article contains spoilers for "Halloween Ends."
Like all slasher films, David Gordon Green's "Halloween" trilogy will be heavily debated between generations of horror fans until the sun burns out, with people still screaming out "Team Corey!" or "It sucked!" with their last, gasping breaths. Regardless of how anyone personally feels about the trilogy, there's one thing we can all agree on — there are some pretty damn gnarly kills on display. "Halloween Ends" is home to some particularly shocking kill sequences, with the massacre at the salvage yard easily one of the best. During the scene, Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell) gets revenge on a gang of bullies who torment him, including Terry Tramer (Michael Barbieri), Stacy (Destiny Mone), Margo (Joey Harris), and Billy (Marteen). Terry takes a blowtorch to the face, Stacy gets her head smashed by a wrench, Billy gets a drumstick stabbed through his head, and Margo...

The Exorcist: Believer (our review can be read Here), the latest entry in the Exorcist franchise, is now available on PVOD – you can buy it from Amazon’s Prime Video at This Link – and to mark the occasion, special effects artists Christopher Nelson and Vincent Van Dyke have taken to Instagram to share full body images of the demon that is only briefly glimpsed in the film! Since these are full body shots and demons don’t wear clothes in Hell, these images might be considered Nsfw, so I’m just going to link to them. Van Dyke’s post can be found Here and Nelson’s is over Here. One image of the demon can be seen at the bottom of this article.

Created by horror-inspired metalcore band Ice Nine Kills, Silver Scream Con has quickly established itself as a top-tier horror convention among celebrity guests and attendees alike. “Everybody’s been really nice, and I’m enjoying myself immensely,” said Tommy Lee Wallace, who created Michael Myers’ iconic mask for the original Halloween before going on to direct Halloween III: Season of the Witch. “I hope everyone gets the shit scared out of them!”
Not even severe thunderstorm alerts could stop the rabid fans, who traveled not just from all over North America but as far as Finland, Scotland, and England to attend. Ticket sales reportedly doubled from the previous year’s already-commendable showing,...

There’s something inherently unsettling about teeth, and the addition of someone prodding at them with sharp instruments is especially invasive. On the other side of that coin, the negative association with dentistry can impact the professionals. Cult filmmaker Brian Yuzna tapped into these fundamental fears with his 1996 direct-to-video film, The Dentist, and its 1998 sequel, The Dentist 2.
In fact, Yuzna knew he could sell the movie based on the title alone, so he solicited writers to pitch him on the concept. It was his old pals Stuart Gordon and Dennis Paoli — for whom Yuzna had produced Re-Animator and From Beyond — that cracked the script. Charles Finch (who went on to executive produce David Cronenberg’s Spider) was later brought in to punch it up.
Continuing the underlying social commentary Yuzna explored with Society, the film centers on hot-headed dentist Alan Feinstone. After catching his wife (Linda Hoffman) going down...

Warning: spoilers ahead for X-Force #36!As the X-Men and their fellow mutants entered a new era with the founding of their nation of Krakoa, the entire order of their world was upended and reinvented. Old enemies put aside their differences to work towards a better, brighter future together, and Marvel's mutants were tasked with re-evaluating their place in this brave new world. But in his new role safeguarding Krakoa, the road for the X-Men's brilliant and blue scientist, Beast, has only steadily grown darker.
With his peerless intellect, Dr. Henry "Hank" McCoy, better known as the X-Men's Beast, was placed in charge of X-Force. This modern iteration of X-Force is essentially Krakoa's equivalent to the CIA, mutantkind's own covert group to identify and neutralize threats to the fledgling nation. Beast's belief in his mission is absolute, and his tenure leading X-Force has seen him increasingly abandon morality in the name of security.

Warning: contains spoilers for X-Force #35The X-Men's paramilitary black-ops agency X-Force is co-led by mutants Beast and Sage, and over the last several months Marvel has handled Sage's escalating alcoholism with genuine respect and sensitivity - coming to a head in X-Force #35 - something the Marvel Cinematic Universe always shied away from.
In Marvel Comics the iconic hero Iron Man is infamous for being a long-time alcoholic in active recovery, with several controversial plots directly addressing Stark's drinking problem in not very respectful or accurate manners. However, the MCU barely incorporated this into Tony Stark's character in the movies - even though in the comics his sobriety is a core part of his identity - only briefly showing Stark drinking irresponsibly during a party scene in Iron Man 2.

Warning: contains spoilers for X-Force #35!Beast has secretly committed a number of terrible crimes in the latest X-Men reboot, and has justified each one as being for 'the greater good' of Mutantkind. But at long last, it seems his fellow heroes of X-Force have finally caught on to his evil behavior.
Ever since Beast was granted full control over Krakoa’s X-Force division by the Quiet Council, he’s been sending Wolverine, Domino, Kid Omega, Black Tom Cassidy, Sage, Beast, Omega Red, and Deadpool on various missions. His power as the head of Krakoa’s own C.I.A. combined with his overinflated ego has led him to a downward spiral of villainous acts which include attacking unprovoked sailors with biological weapons, releasing a virus that wiped out a country’s entire population, telepathically torturing Colossus, and turning Wolverine back into a mindless killing machine. Chicago Fire Season 11 started off on a sad note for “Brettsey” fans: Paramedic Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) broke up with firefighter Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) after both previously acknowledged their long-distance relationship (with him in Oregon) wasn’t working. Before his death, Chief Evan Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas) wanted to introduce Brett to a friend of his; she’d later bump into him and agree to a coffee date. In the fall finale, she mentioned to Violet (Hanako Greensmith) that Dylan (Christopher Allen) invited her to a concert that weekend but that would still be keeping things in the “slow lane” since the tickets were free and she’d meet him outside the venue, then they wouldn’t have to talk much. But is Brett ready for even the “slow lane”? “Brett is gonna have a lot of fun dating going forward,” co-showrunner Andrea Newman tells TV Insider. “She’s gonna have some magical times dating,...

Welcome back, dear readers! We’ve nearly made it through another week and December is (quite literally) just right around the corner. And since the holiday season is pretty much upon us, we’re back with another installment of our annual Holiday Gift Guide. For today, I’m celebrating a handful of books that I have either had the chance to check out this year and fell in love with, or several titles that I’m confident genre fans will love that I just haven’t had a chance to check out yet for myself.

And also, just so everything is on the up-and-up, I want to mention that I did include my own latest book in today’s edition of the Hgg just because the artists featured in this second volume of Monsters, Makeup...

Soon after each film in director David Gordon Green’s trilogy of Halloween sequels have been released, we’ve gotten to see pictures of what the movie’s version of an unmasked Michael Myers looked like. The unmasked Myers from Halloween 2018 can be seen Here, the unmasked Myers from Halloween Kills is Here. And now special effects artist Christopher Nelson has taken to social media to share pictures of the unmasked Michael Myers from the trilogy capper, Halloween Ends (read our review Here). The pictures can be seen at the bottom of this article.
Green directed Halloween Ends from a screenplay he wrote with Danny McBride, Paul Brad Logan, and Chris Bernier. The film has the following synopsis:
Four years after the events of last year’s Halloween Kills, Laurie is living with her granddaughter Allyson and is finishing writing her memoir. Michael Myers hasn’t been seen since. Laurie,...

Unmasked Michael Myers is terrifying in behind-the-scenes images from Halloween Ends. The third and final entry in the H40 trilogy delivered on its promise of a last showdown between Laurie Strode and Michael Myers. It also somewhat bizarrely offered up an unexpected storyline involving young Haddonfield resident Corey Cunningham’s transformation into a killer.
Halloween Ends’ Corey storyline has indeed proven divisive among fans. Many were confused by the sudden emphasis on this previously unseen character. Others however praised Halloween Ends for diverging from the classic Halloween formula and taking a big swing with new story. Either way, Halloween Ends still ended with Laurie Strode and her granddaughter Allyson squaring off against Myers, unmasking the killer and finally (seemingly) disposing of him forever.

Haddonfield is finally putting evil to bed in Halloween Ends. Janiak’s goal was that the “skull mask” killer in the first installment, “Fear Street: 1994,” should be “iconic.” Nelson, a horror veteran and Oscar winner for “Suicide Squad,” cites classic horror films like “Friday the 13th” and “Halloween,” noting the simplicity of the masks.
“I wanted this to look familiar, as if it were something you bought from a Halloween store,” says the FX designer, who also created special makeup effects for the 2018 “Halloween” and for another Stine adaptation, “Goosebumps.”
He went through numerous iterations in designing the skull mask, starting with concept art before experimenting with different shapes and sizes of skulls. “I...

If you want to win an Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, make sure you’re doing work on Jared Leto. That might be one lesson from the Oscars shortlists, where Leto’s film “The Little Things” was included among the 10 semi-finalists in that category. If it ultimately receives a nomination and wins, it would be the third Leto film in less than 10 years to win this exact award.

The first was “Dallas Buyers Club” (2013), which famously won Best Makeup and Hairstyling despite a makeup budget of only $250. Adruitha Lee and Robin Mathews prevailed for that film in no small part for transforming Leto into transgender character Rayon, for which Leto also won Best Supporting Actor. Though in the years since, as trans actors, artists and activists have gained more visibility in the industry,...

Despite Joker being the most heavily Oscar-nominated comic book movie in history, in the end it only took home two awards at this year’s ceremony: Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix and Best Original Score for composer Hildur Guðnadóttir. However, its wins continue a trend of live action movies featuring the Clown Prince of Crime to have picked up at least one of the film industry’s most coveted honors.
First off, no, this sadly doesn’t include 1966’s Batman: The Movie, the Adam Ward TV series taken to the big screen in a ludicrous expansion, which unsurprisingly did not set awards season alight. Outwith that colorful and villain-overloaded campfest, the Joker’s first live action appearance was Jack Nicolson’s gangster in Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman movie. The film’s only Academy Award nomination was for Best Art Direction, and was picked up by production designer Anton Furst and set decorator Peter Young.

Laurie Strode and Michael Myers may be having one final showdown this fall, but The Shape now has even more potential victims to hunt down in the new Halloween movie, which just began filming in South Carolina.
According to the official Halloween franchise website, Ginny Gardner, Miles Robbins, Dylan Arnold, and Drew Scheid have joined the cast of the new Halloween movie to play the friends of Allyson (Andi Matichak), who is presumably the granddaughter of Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and the daughter of Karen Strode (Judy Greer).

The new Halloween movie is returning to its roots in more ways than one. In addition to bringing back Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode and having John Carpenter on board as an executive producer, the latest film in the Halloween franchise will also bring back the original actor who brought life to The Shape.
Bloody Disgusting reports that filmmaker and actor Nick Castle will reprise his role as Michael Myers in the new Halloween movie. Castle played the masked version of the cinematic killer (credited as "The Shape") in John Carpenter's original Halloween movie (while Tony Moran played the unmasked version of Michael and Will Sandin played a young Michael).
Just as in the original film, Castle won't be the sole portrayer of Myers in the new film, as Bloody Disgusting also reveals that stunt man and actor James Jude Courtney has been cast in the iconic role. Perhaps...

If you’ve been keeping any eye on the BBFC website this news won’t come as that much of a surprise… However, Lionsgate UK have officially announced today the launch of the Vestron Collectors Series line of Blu-rays here in the UK! Yes, no longer will you have to fork over £30-40 to import the well-received Vestron Blus, instead you can get them right here in Blighty. The catch? It looks, at least from this announcement, that we won’t be getting All the Vestron titles – after all, there’s no Waxwork 2 included on the UK Blu.
