Forlorn-looking 1940s actor at MGM for a couple of years before outgrowing his adorableness. Playing younger than he looked, his best role was arguably as sad sack Willie Brewster who develops a painful crush on Judy Garland in the Rooney/Garland "let's put on a show" musical Strike Up the Band (1940).

Father of actress/singer Terri Nunn. Terri fronts a rock band known as Berlin. She wrote the song "Blame It on the World" which laments the sad life and death of her father, who committed suicide when she was only 13.

He turned to alcohol later in life and committed suicide at age 49 after learning he had terminal cancer.
