Gunnar Obel(1927-2002)
- Producer
In the 50-60-70's hundreds of small town Cinemas were scattered all over Denmark. These movie-palaces would show films, lots of films. ONE man understood this better than most. Moviemerchant Gunnar Obel traveled all over Europe be it Rome, London, Munich etc and imported many so called euro trash titles to his own and other Danish movie houses. He gave film lovers a variety of sweaty, fantastic titles to Watch, there in the darkness of the local cinemas. Dawn of the Dead, Suspiria, Emanuelle in America, Zombie 2, not forgetting the infamous Ilse Shewolf of the SS, Dgango titles and of course the German softcore attractions of Schulmadchen Report plus hundreds of war, crime, horror, sex, spaghetti westerns.
As a kid you just couldn't avoid seeing many of these titles when going to your local movie house 2-3 times a week. In the 80's you rented them on VHS. During the 90's you bought them as x-rentals and for the last 10-15 years you pick them up on DVD or Blu ray. These titles, genres have fans all over the world indulging in the wanders of these "suspecious" perverse dramas.
That's why I produced this documentary on Gunnar Obel, a legendary but not well known man in his home country. Gunnar vividly tells about his life as the man who loved Women, Jesus and Django.
