Biography

    • Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Virginia Patton was raised in Portland, Oregon, where she graduated from Jefferson High School in 1942. Her high school goal was to "make it in Hollywood". She relocated to Los Angeles and attended the University of Southern California, where she starred in a play written by William C. de Mille. She appeared in several films throughout the early 1940s before landing a supporting part in It's a Wonderful Life (1946), which she considered a once in a lifetime movie role.

      She retired from acting in the late 1940s to concentrate on raising a family with her husband, Cruse W. Moss, in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

  • She was president of The Patton Corp, an investment and real estate holdings company in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was involved in community work including serving on the Cleary University board of trustees, the Washtenaw County Community Mental Health Service board of directors and as a docent at the University of Michigan Museum of Art. She introduced the film It's a Wonderful Life (1946) on Friday, December 19th, 2003 at the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts in Brighton, Michigan.
  • While attending the University of Southern California, she starred in a play by playwright and silent-film director 'William C. deMille', brother of filmmaker 'Cecil B. deMille'. This connection helped lead to her eventual casting in It's a Wonderful Life (1946).
